No. 17 of 1956-The Electricity Act 1956.
His Excellency the Governor directs that the above-men-
tioned Act shall come into operation as on and from the 1st
October, 1956.

Given Under
THE ACQUISITION OF LAND ACT
(Chapter 265)
WHEREAS by Notice No. 40 dated the 17th March, 1956,
and published in the Official Gazette dated the 17th March, 1956,
the Governor in Council declared that it was his intention to
acquire the land described in the Schedule hereto
AND WHEREAS His Excellency the Governor is of the
opinion that the possession of the selected land should be obtained
before payment is made to the rightful claimants to the property
described in the Schedule hereto.
NOW THEREFORE it is hereby notified that the selected
land has been appropriated by the Governor in Council for the
purposes mentioned in the said notice with effect from the date
of this notice.
Dated the 12th day of Setpember, 1956.

SCHEDULE
All that tract of land comprising approximately two acres
situate in the Settlement of Black Point Exuma and said to be a
part of the Estate of the late John Daxon Brown, bounded North-
eastwardly by Land belonging to the Estate of the said John
Daxon Brown and by a line running 184 feet on a bearing of
308 52' from a point on the Public Road situate 71 feet Southeast
of the Public Well and marked by an iron pipe in a concrete
pillar, to the sea shore; Southeastwardly by the Public Road for
a distance of 400 feet from the above mentioned pipe and pillar
on a bearing 228 52' to a point marked by an Iron pipe in a
concrete pillar; Southwestwardly by land belonging to the Estate
of the said John Daxon Brown and by a line running from the
above mentioned second iron pipe for a distance of 224 feet on
a bearing of 308 52' to the sea shore and Northwestwardly by
the Sea.

WHEREAS by Notice No. 115 dated the 14th July, 1956,
and published in the Official Gazette dated the 14th July, 1956,
the Governor in Council declared that it was his intention to
acquire the land described in the Schedule hereto

eighty-five (85) feet more or less, and on the South by land of
P. A. Huyler and running thereon four (4) feet more or less.
(2) A portion of a tract of land situate on the Eastern side
of Nassau St. in the Western District of the Island of New Provi-
dence bounded on the West by Nassau St. for a distance of ninety
three (93) feet more or less, on the North by land of the estate
of Hon. A. F. Adderley, and running thereon seven (7) feet six (6)
inches more or less, on the East by land of P. A. Huyler and
running thereon ninety three (93) feet more or less, and on the
South by a private road property the estate of Hon. A. F. Adderley
and running thereon seven (7) feet six (6) inches more or less.
(3) A portion of a tract of land situate on the Eastern side
of Nassau St. in the Western District of the Island of New Provi-
dence, bounded on the West by Nassau St. for a distance of
thirteen (13) feet six (6) inches more or less, on the North by land
of P. A. Huyler and running thereon seven (7) feet six (6) inches
more or less, on the East by a private roadway property of the
estate of Hon. A. F. Adderley and running thereon thirteen (13)
feet six (6) inches more or less and on the South by land of
Neville Bethel and running thereon seven (7) feet six (6) inches.
(4) A portion of a tract of land situate on the Eastern side
of Nassau St. in the Western District of the Island of New Provi-
dence, bounded on the West by Nassau St. and running thereon
seventy (70) feet more or less, on the North by a private roadway
property of the estate of Hon. A. F. Adderley and running thereon

PASSENGER ACCOMMODATION -
PRINCE GEORGE WHARF
The Board of Pilotage on behalf of the Government of the
Bahamas invites Building Contractors, who may be interested in
undertaking the work of constructing the proposed Passenger
Accommodation on Prince George Wharf, to inspect the drawings
in the office of Mr. E. A. Boyce, Consulting Engineer, Adderley
Building, East Street north between the hours of 9 a.m. to 12:30
p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday the 17th September
to Saturday the 22nd September, 1956, inclusive.
In brief, the work consists, inter alia, of pile driving opera-
tions, the erection of structural steelwork (some of the steel beams
weighing 73/4 short tons each, the construction of a reinforced
concrete floor, the raising of the existing roof etc., etc.
All materials required for this work will be supplied by Gov-
ernment.
Owing to the unusual conditions under which this work has
to be executed and the importance of undertaking it expeditiously,
any Building Contractors interested in the performance of this
work are invited to submit their proposals to the Chairman of
the Board of Pilotage on or before noon on Monday the 24th
September, 1956 for consideration by the Board.

The sub-joined Regulations made under The Penal Code (Ch.
60) are published for general information.

REGULATIONS
Made Under
THE PENAL CODE
(Ch. 60).
In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Section 231
of the Penal Code the Governor in Council hereby makes the
following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as The Street Traffic
Amendment (No. 2) Regulations 1956.










2. Paragraph (d) of Regulation 8 of The Street Traffic Regu-
lations 1950 is hereby amended by deleting therefrom sub-para-
graph (2) and substituting therefore the following:
"(2) for longer than one half hour in the following
places:
(i) on the West side of Bank Lane from the Post
Office Building South to the Law Courts
Building;
(ii) on East Street opposite the Telecommunica-
tions Department;
(iii) East side of Charlotte Street slip."
3. Regulation 8 of The Street Traffic Regulations 1950 is
hereby amended by adding thereto the following:
"(1) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained
in these Regulations the Commissioner of Police is hereby em-
powered to mark out the following:
(1) One space for the parking only of the Deputy
Colonial Secretary s car on the West side of
Bank Lane immediately to the North of the
steps of the Colonial Secretary's Office.
(2) An area for the parking of Police vehicles on
the East side of Bank Lane extending from the
main entrance to the Central Police Station
South to the steps at the Southern end of the
Central Police Station."
4. The Schedule to The Street Traffic Regulations 1950 is
hereby amended as follows:
(a) by deleting therefrom item "a. BAY STREET" and
substituting therefore the following:
