A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS under Section 5 of The Plants Protection Act,
the Governor-in-Council may, on the recommendation of the
Agricultural and Marine Products Board by Proclamation abso-
lutely or conditionally prohibit the importation directly or in-
directly from any country or place named in the Proclamation of
any plants, or any articles packed therewith or any package
which, in the opinion of the Governor-in-Council, are or are likely
to be a means of introducing any plant disease into the Colony.
AND WHEREAS the Agricultural and Marine Products
Board have made certain recommendations to the Governor-in-
Council.
NOW THEREFORE I the Governor-in-Council do hereby
issue this my Proclamation declaring that the importation to the
Bahama Islands directly or indirectly from any Port or place in
the State of Florida, United States of America, of any plant (in
which term is included trees, shrubs, herbs, or vegetables; and
cuttings, hay, bulbs, seeds, berries, buds and grafts; corns, tubers
and rhizomes; and the fruit or product of any plant and the root,
trunk, stem, branch or leaf of any plant, and the whole or any

part of any growing, dying or dead plant including emptied pods,
husks or skins but does not include packaged vegetable and flower
seeds, bagged or packaged poultry and game feed, bagged or
packaged livestock feed, bagged or packaged rice and boxed cut
owers from Canada in transit by aeroplane via Tampa, Florida,
accompanied by a Certificate of Origin) or any package in which
any plant (as hereinbefore defined), whether the same is intended
for consumption as food or otherwise or any paper or any other
article which has been packed with any plant (as hereinbefore
defined), as aforesaid is absolutely prohibited: Provided that:-
(a) Carload shipments of fruit and vegetables and hay, not
originating in Florida may be shipped into the Colony
in transit through the State of Florida, subject to the t
approval, in writing, of the Board of Agriculture.
(b) Shipments of fruit, vegetables and ornamental flowers
not originating in Florida and properly packaged may
be allowed into the Colony in transit through the State
of Florida by air express or parcel post, subject to the
approval in writing of the Board of Agriculture.
(c) The Board of Agriculture, on the production of Certi-
ficates of Origin, may grant at its discretion permits
to persons to import the commodities mentioned in this
Proviso under such terms and subject to such conditions
as the Board in its discretion may think fit.
My Proclamation made under Section 5 of The Plants Pro-
tection Act and dated the 10th day of May, 1956 is hereby can-
celled.
AND IT IS HEREBY DECLARED that this my Proclamation
shall remain in force from today's date until further notice.

Island of New Providence this 19th
day of June, A.D., 1956, in the Fifth
year of Her Majesty's Reign.
