appointments:-
Mr. A. C. Langlois, M.B.E., Deputy Director of Public Works
to be Acting Director of Public Works in conjunction with
the duties of his own office with effect from the 13th
March, 1956-M.P. P. 365.
\Ir. Philip Albert Kemp to be Assistant Registrar of Births and
Deaths for the Western District of the Island of New
Providence with effect from the 1st January, 1956.

NOTICE OF INTENTION
Given Under
THE ACQUISITION OF LAND ACT
(Chapter 265)
WHEREAS it appears to His Excellency the Governor-in-
Council that the land described in the Schedule hereto is required
for a public purpose.
NOW therefore it is hereby notified that it is the intention
of His Excellency the Governor-in-Council to acquire the said
land for a public purpose, to wit: for the purpose of providing
housing facilities for the Public School Headteachcr at Black
Point, Exuma.
All persons interested in the said land shall within thirty
days of the publication of this notice state in writing to the Acting
Colonial Secretary of the Colony the nature of their respective
interests in the said land and the amount and particulars of their
claim to compensation for such interest.
Dated the 16th day of March, 1956.

SCHEDULE
All that tract of land comprising approximately two acres
situate in the Settlement of Black Point Exuma and said to be
a part of the Estate of the late John Daxon Brown, bounded
Northeastwardly by Land belonging to the Estate of the said
John Daxon Brown, :nd by a line running 184 feet on a bearing
of 308 52' from a point on the Public Road situate 71 feet
Southeast of the Public Well and marked by an iron pipe in a
concrete pillar, to the sea shore; Southeastwardly by the Public
road for a distance of 400 feet from the above mentioned pipe
and pillar on a bearing 228 52' to a point marked by an iron
pipe in a concrete pillar; Southwestwardly by land belonging to
the Estate of the said John Daxon Brown and by a line running
from the above mentioned second iron pipe for a distance of
224 feet on a bearing of 308 52' to the sea shore and Northwest-
wardly by the Sea.
The foregoing notices numbered 38 to 40 are published by
command.

(ii) Reconstruction of main road Cat Island.
Tenders for (i) should state the amount required per cubic
yard of (a) rock (b) sand removed from the channel and harbour.
Tenders for (ii) should state the amount required per mile for
grading, compacting, rolling and oiling with two coats of asphaltic
emulsion a carriage way 14 feet in width and with shoulders of
three feet on each side. Specifications may be seen at the office
of the Out Island Department. Tenders should reach that office
by 16th April, 1956.

POLICE RECRUITS REQUIRED
It is intended that a course of training for recruits should
commence at the Police Depot and Training School, Nassau in
the near future.
Written application should be submitted to the Commissioner
of Police as soon as possible and persons desirous of consideration

should report at Police Headquarters, East Street, not later than
10 a.m. on 3rd April, 1956.
The Police Force offers to young men of good character and
education an interesting and useful career. Pay and conditions
of service are good with the security of a pension after 21 years
service.
Minimum requirements are:-
Age 20 to 27 years.
Education Equivalent of Grade VI.
Height 5 feet 9 inches in bare feet.
Chest Not less than .36 inches (expanded)
Present Pay:-
Constables 494 x 30 624 p.a.
Corporals 650 x 20 702 p.a.
Sergeants 728 x 20 780 p.a.
Inspectors 806 p.a.
Constables shall be appointed for 3 years and may re-engage
for further successive periods of 3 years. During the first 6 months
of service a Constable shall be on probation.
Free uniform, medical attention and, for single men, accom-
modation in Barracks are also provided and fourteen days annual
leave on full pay is granted. Housing allowance for married
men is granted at the following rates:--
Constables 48 p.a.
Corporals 48 p.a.
Sergeants 60 p.a.
Inspectors 76 p.a.

Headquarters, East Street.
