both Houses of the Legislature in the Council Chambers on the
evening of the 20th June, 1955 and assented to the following

the Colony.
No. 2 of 1955 An Act to provide for the control of Exports from
the Colony.
No. 3 of 1955 An Act to appropriate certain moneys for the
improvement of the Out Islands.
No. 4 of 1955 An Act to appropriate certain moneys for the
purpose of carrying out major public works in the
Colony.
No. 5 of 1955 An Act to authorize the entering into of an Agree-
ment with a Company to be incorporated in the
Colony by Wallace Groves for the dredging of a
deep water harbour and the establishment of an
industrial area at and in the vicinity of Hawksbill
Creek, Grand Bahama.
No. 6 of 1955 An Act to amend the Hotels Encouragement Act
1954.

and Commander-in-Chief in and over the said
Islands and Vice Admiral of the same.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS by certain Letters Patent under the Great Seal
of the 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland bearing date
at Westminster the 8th day of September in the ninth year of the
reign of His Majestty King Edward the Seventh and in the year
of Our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Nine, His said
Majesty did constitute the Office of Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over these Islands and by such Letters Patent did
declare that whenever the Office of Governor is vacant or if the
Governor becomes incapable or is absent from the said Islands,
or is from any cause prevented from acting in the duties of his
Office, the Lieutenant-Governor of the said Islands or if there
be no such Officer or if such Officer be absent or unable to Act,
then such person or persons as may be appointed under the
Royal Sign Manual and Signet and in case there shall be no
person or persons within the said Islands so appointed, then the
Senior Member of the Executive Council who shall be resident
within the said Islands and capable of discharging the duties of
Administration should during the Royal Pleasure administer the
Government of the said Islands, first taking the Oaths in such
Letters Patent directed to be taken by the Governor, and in the
manner therein prescribed; which being done, His Majesty did by
such Letters Patent authorize, empower, and command such
Lieutenant-Governor or any other such Administrator as afore-
said, to do, and execute during the Royal Pleasure all things that
belong to the Office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief,
according to the tenor of the said Letters Patent, according to the
Royal Instructions and the Laws of the said Islands.
AND WHEREAS His Excellency The Right Honourable,
The Earl of Ranfurly, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and
over the said Islands is now absent from the said Islands
AND WHEREAS there being no Lieutenent-Governor of these
Islands and no person or persons appointed under the Royal
Sign Manual and Signet, I the said Anthony Geoffrey Hopwood
Gardner-Brown, being the Senior Member of Her Majesty's
Executive Council of the Bahama Islands now resident therein
and being capable of di sc h a r g i'ng the duties of
administration, and having taken the Oaths in such Letters
Patent directed to be taken by the Governor in the manner in
such Letters Patent prescribed, under and by virtue of the
authority of the said Letters Patent have assumed and taken
upon myself the Office of Acting Governor and Commander-in-
Chief of the said Bahama Islands.
NOW THEREFORE I do issue this my Proclamation
notifying the same and I do hereby in the name of Her Majesty
the Queen require and command all Officers, Civil and Military,
and all other inhabitants of these Islands to take notice thereof
and to be obedient, aiding and assisting me in the execution of

my Office of Acting Governor and Commander-in-Chief as afore-
said.
Given under my hand and the Public Seal of the
said Islands at Government House, in the city
of Nassau, in the Island of New Providence
this 22nd day of June, A.D., 1955, and in the
fourth year of Her Majesty's reign.

Mr. Caleb W. Curry-Acting Senior Assistant Secretary to be
Acting Deputy Colonial Secretary-M.P. P.6.
The foregoing notices numbered 109 and 110 are published
by command.

Whereas W. E. A. Callender, of the City of Nassau in the Is-
land of New Providence, has made application to the Chief Jus-
tice of the Supreme Court of the Bahama Islands for letters of
Administration of the real and personal estates of Ronald James
MacDonald, late of Bimini, Bahamas, deceased.
SNotice is hereby given that such application will be heard by
the said Chief Justice at the expiration of 28 days from the date
hereof.

Attention is drawn to Water Skiers and operators of speed
boats to Rule 17 of the Board of Pilotage which is as follows:
"No boat shall proceed at such speed that her wash causes
damage or otherwise incommodes any craft or person in the area
of the Harbour of Nassau.

DEPARTMENTAL NOTICE
ALL Foodhandlers, Bartenders, Barbers, Beauticians, etc.,
are hereby notified to present themselves for Medical Examina-
tion at the Out Patients Department of the Princess Margaret
Hospital at 2:30 p.m., commencing Monday the 4th July, 1955
and continuing Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
through to the 28th July, 1955.
Any Foodhandler, Bartender, Barber, Beautician, etc., found
employed after the 28th July, 1955 without a Health Certificate
will be liable to prosecution.
