1946 (No. 19 of 1946), Public Notice is hereby given that a Writ has
been issued under the Public Seal of the Bahama Islands for the
election of one Representative to serve for the District of Eleuthera
in the present General Assembly of the said Islands, in the room of
the Honourable George William Kelly Roberts, who has been called
up to the Legislative Council, and that the said Writ has tnis day
been delivered to the Provost Marshal of these Islands for the due
execution thereof.

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS by certain Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland bearing date at West-
minster the 8th day of September in the ninth year of the reign of
His Majesty King Edward the Seventh and in the year of Our Lord
One Thousand Nine Hundred and Nine, His said Majesty did con-
stitute the Office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over
these Islands and by such Letters Patent did declare that whenever
the Office of Governor is vacant or if the Governor becomes incap-
able or is absent from the said Islands, or is from any cause prevented
from acting in the duties of his Office, the Lieutenant-Governor of
the said Islands or if there be no such Officer or if such Officer be
absent or unable to Act, then such person or persons as may be
appointed under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet and in case there
shall be no person or persons within the said Islands so appointed,
then the Senior Member of the Executive Council who shall be resi-
dent within the said Islands and capable of discharging the duties of
Administration should during the Royal Pleasure administer the Gov-
ernment of the said Islands, first taking the Oaths in such Letters
Patent directed to be taken by the Governor, and in the manner
therein prescribed; which being done, His Majesty did by such Letters
Patent authorize, empower, and command such Lieutenant-Governor
or any other such Administrator as aforesaid, to do, and execute
during the Royal Pleasure all things that belong to the Office of
Governor and Commander-in-Chief, according to the tenor of the
said Letters Patent, and according to the Royal Instructions and the
Laws of the said Islands.
AND WHEREAS His Excellency The Right Honourable, The Earl
cf Ranfurly, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the said
Islands is now absent from the said Islands.
AND WHEREAS there being no Lieutenant-Governor oi: these
Islands and no person or persons appointed under the Royal Sign
Manual and Signet, I the said Anthony Geoffrey Hopwood Gardner-
Brown, being the Senior Member of Her Majesty's Executive Council
of the Bahama Islands now resident therein and being capable of
discharging the duties of administration, and having taken the Oaths
in such Letters Patent directed to be taken by the Governor in the
manner in such Letters Patent prescribed, under and by virtue of
the authority of the said Letters Patent have assumed and taken
upon myself the Office of Acting Governor and Commander-in-Chief
of the said Bahama Islands.
NOW THEREFORE I do issue this my Proclamation notifying
the same and I do hereby in the name of Her Majesty the Queen
require and command all Officers, Civil and Military, and all other
inhabitants of these Isands to take notice thereof and to be obedient,
aiding and assisting me in the execution of my Office of Acting Gov-
ernor and Commander-in-Chief as aforesaid.

The Temporary Licensing Office at the old Bahamas Defence
Company Parade Ground, r'ort Unariot~e, West Bay Street will be
opened on Wednesday, December 1st, 1954.
Hours:
Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
Motor vehicles will be inspected and both vehicle and driving
licences issued.
Owners oI motor vehicles and holders of driving licences are
reminded that their licences expire on December 31st, and they are
urged to have their vehicles inspected and their licences renewed
as soon alter December 1st as possible so uhat an licences can be
renewed by January 15th, 1955, as from that date road checks and
prosecutions will be instituted.

NOTICE

OFFICE, BOARD OF PILOTAGE

The following excerpts from the Rules made under the Boat
Registration Act and supplementary Rules made under the Pilotage
Act are brought to the attention of boat owners.
(1) The owner of a boat who desires to obtain a licence shall
apply in writing to the Board, and shall state in such application
his nationality and the names and address and nationality of the
master and members of the crew of such boat.
(2) No boat shall ply for hire or offer for charter within the
harbour unless the master or other person in charge thereof
holds a licence under the rules.
(3) The Board may cancel the licence of any boat if the owner
who obtained such licence has transferred the boat to another,
or if the master or any member of the crew is a person of
whose name, address and nationality the Board has not been
notified in writing.
(4) Every boat before being licensed shall be submitted to the
Board for inspection sometime during the month of December
in every year.
(5) The Board may require that all or any of the equipment men-
tioned in paragraph 5 of the Rules be stamped or stencilled
with such marks of identification as it shall direct.
In order that the Board may arrange a schedule for The in-
specting Committees, boat owners are requested to co-operate Boats
not inspected and licensed before December 31st, will not be allowed
to operate, until the next schedule of inspection is arranged by the
Board.
The foregoing rules apply to sail boats and boats used for water
skiing as well as to motor boats.
