appointments:-
APPOINTMENT OF ACTING CHIEF JUSTICE
Section 7 of The Supreme Court Act, Chapter 33.

To Sir Oswald Lawrence Bancroft, Kt., Q.C., M.A.
I, the Right Honourable the Earl of Ranfurly, Governor and
Commander-in-Chief in and over the Bahama Islands, do hereby
appoint you Sir Oswald Lawrence Bancroft, Kt., Q.C., M.A. to act as
Chief Jus'ice of the Supreme Court of the Bahama Islands for the
purpose of presiding over the hearing of the matter of Randol
Francis Fawkes and the matter of The Supreme Court Act, Chapter
33 of the Statute Law of the Bahama Islands 1799-1929, now pending
before the said Supreme Court and for the purpose of determining
all questions arising in that case;
And this appointment shall take effect on and including the
ninth day of February in the year of Our Lord 1954 and shall con-
tinue until the determination of the case aforesaid.

The following scale of fees payable to Assessors for serving under
the Acquisition of Land Act (Chapter 265) is published in accordance

Such sum not less than One Guinea nor more than Ten Guineas
for each Assessment as may be determined by the Governor-in-
Council in each case.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint, by an
Instrument made under the Public Seal of the Colony, the Hon-
ourable Anthony Geoffrey Hopwood Gardrer-Brown, M.E.C., Colonial
Secretary, to be His Deputy during his temporary absences from
the Island of New Providence with effect from the 4th February,
1954.
Ccnsequent upon the temporary absence from New Providence
of His Excellency the Governor, on a visit to Abaco, the Honourable
A.G.H. Gardner-Brown, M.E.C., Colonial Secretary, is acting as His
Excellency's Deputy with effect from the 5th February, 1954.

It is hereby ro'ified that His Excellency the Governor has been
informed by the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the
Colonies that Her Majesty the Queen will not be advised to exercise
Her power of disallowance with respect to the following Act of the
Legislature of the Bahama Islands: -

THE REMOVAL OF DEFUNCT COMPANIES ACT

TAKE NOTICE that under the provisions of The Removal of
Defunct Companies Act I have struck off the undemerntioned Com-
pany as and from the 26th day of January, 1954, on the ground
that it is no longer carrying on business or in operation.

NOTICE

The attention of the pubic is hereby drawn to the following
Rules made under the Public Health Act (Ch. 26) and cited as Public
Health Rules, 1934:
RULE 13
"Every person who shall deposit the carcass of any animal, any
putrid substance, filth, offal, garbage, refuse, or rubbish of any de-
scription by th side of any street, road, or lane, or on any un-
occupied lot, or in any other place other than on a recognized
dumping ground shall be liable to a penalty of Twenty Shillings
(20/-) for each offence."
RULE 14
"Every person who shall, either personally or by a servant or
other person on his behalf or over whom he exercises control, throw,
place or allow to be thrown or placed, or drain or allow to be drained
into any public drain or gutter, or upon any public thoroughfare,
in any town or settlement any waste water from any bath, lavatory,
sink, or urinal, or any soap suds, pickle, or other impure offensive
liquid or solid substance shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding
Twenty Pounds (20. 0. 0.) or four months imprisonment."
Any person violating the above Public Health Rules will be liable
to prosecution.
The only recognized dumping ground is located on Harold Road
about 400 ft. south of Farrington Road or about 1/4 mile south of
the Public Water Works Pumping Station at Prospect Ridge.

BICYCLE LICENCES

The Inspection and Licensing of Bicycles will be undertaken
at the Central Police Station from Monday, February 8 h. Hours
9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Fridays and 9 a.m. to 12 noon Saturdays.
All bicycles mus' be licenced by the 15th March after which
date owners of unlicenced bicycles will be prosecuted.
