WHEREAS Her Majesty has
been graciously pleased in and
by Her Royal Commission un-
der Her Sign Manual, bearing
date at the Court at Saint
James, the twentieth day of
October, in the year of Our
Lord One Thousand Nine Hun-
dred and fifty-three, to consti-
tute and appoint me to be Gov-
ernor and Commander-in-Chief
in and over these Her Majesty's
Bahama Islands, with all the
powers, rights, privileges, and
advantages to the said Office
belonging or appertaining.
AND WHEREAS Her Majesty
hath. in and by Her said Com-
mission, required and com-
manded all Her Officers, Minis-
ters. and loving subjects in the
said Islands, and all others
whom it may concern to take
due notice there of and give
their ready obedience accord-
ingly.
AND WHEREAS the said
Commission hath this day been.
openly promulgated at the City
of Nassau, in the Island of New
Providence the Capital or Seat
of Government of the said Is-


lands; and I have,under and
by virtue thereof, assumed and
taken upon myself the Office
of Governor and Commander-
in-Chief as aforesaid, of the
said Bahama Islands.
I do, therefore, issue this my
proclamation notifying the
same, and I do hereby in the
name of Her Majesty require
and command all Officers, Min-
isters and loving subjects in the
said Islands, and all others whom
it may concern, to take due no-
tice thereof, and to give their
ready obedience accordingly.

House, in the City of Nas-
sau, in the Island New Pro-
vidence, this 21st day of

THE ACQUISITION OF LAND
ACT (Chapter 265)


WHEREAS it appears to His
Excellency the Acting Governor
in Council that the land de-
scribed in the Schedule hereto
is required for a public purpose
NOW THEREFORE it is here-
by notified that it is the in-
tention of His Excellency the
Acting Governor to acquire the
said land for a public purpose,
to wit: for use as a cemetery
for the burial of persons of the
Jewish faith. All persons in-
terested in the said land shall
within thirty days of the pub-
lication of this notice state in
writing to the Colonial Secre-
tary of the Colony the nature
of their respective interests in
the said land and the amount
arid particulars of their claims
for compensation for such in-
terests.

WHEREAS by Notice No. 103
dated the 24th April, 1953, and
published in the Official Ga-
zette dated the 27th April, 1953,
the Governor in Council de-
clared that it was his intention
to acquire the land described in
the Shedule hereto.
AND WHEREAS claims for
compensation have been lodged
by Henry Burrows, Amos Bur-
tows and Thaddeus Charleton
for the said land,

land has been appropriated by
the Acting Governor in Council
