est regret, that he has received
a telegram from the Right Hon-
ourable the Secretary of State
for the Colonies announcing
that Her Majesty Queen Mary
died at Marlborough House yes-


terday evening.
His Excellency has despatch-
ed the following telegrams to
the Right Honourable the Sec-
retary of State for the Col-
onies:-
(i) "News or the death of
Her Majesty Queen Mary
has been received with
heartfelt sorrow
throughout this Colony.
On behalf of the Gov-
ornment and people of
the Bahamas I desire to
offer with my humble
duty loyal and dutiful
sympathy to Her Majesty
the Queen and Members
of the Royal Family in
their bereavement."
(ii) "Following for His Royal
Highness the Duke of
Windsor. Begins. On
behalf of the Govern-
ment and people of the
Bahamas, who hold Your
Royal Highness in speci-
al esteem as their form-
er Governor, I offer
with my humble duty
our heartfelt sympathy
on the death of Your
Royal Highness' Mother.
Ends."
The Governor has directed
that until further notice flags
on public buildings and Gov-
ernment vessels shall be flown
at half mast. Commissioned
officers in the Bahamas Police
Force will, when in uniform
wear mourning bands. Honour-
able Members of Executive

Council and Heads of Depart-
ments, and any others who de-
sire to wear mourning dress,
should do so until after the day
of the funeral.
A Memorial Service will be
held in Christ Church Cathe-
dral on Sunday, 29th March, at
5 p.m. Seats wlil be reserved
for Members of the Executive
Council and of the Legislature.
Uniform, morning dress or dark
suit should be worn by gentle-
men and whit. or black dresses
by ladies. Full details regard-
ing this Service, and other
Mourning observance, will be
published in the Press later in
the week.

ferred upon the Governor in
Council by section 4 of the Pen-
sions Act, the following Order
is herabv made:
1. This Order may be c!ied
as the Herman Pyfrom Pension
Order, 1953.
2. A pension at the rate of
Two Hundred and Twenty-four
pounds Six shillings and One
Penny (224. 6. 1.) per annum
is hereby granted to Herman
Pyfrom as from the 1st day of
March, 1953.

WHEREAS by Notice No. 252
dated the 11th November, 1952.
in the Official Gazette of 15th
November, 1952, the Governor
in Council declared that it was
his intention to acquire all that
certain tract or parcel of land
comprising one task situate at
Deep Creek in the Island of
Eleuthera, and more particu-
larly described as follows'
All that piece parcel or lot of
land with a partially completed
stone building thereon situated
at Deep Creek, comprising one
task and bounded as follows:-
On the North West by the land
of the Board of Education and
running thereon 100' (one
hundred feet), on the North
East by a public highway and
runningg thereon 100' (one hun-
dred feet), on the South East
by a public highway and run-
ning thereon 100' (one hundred
feet) and on the South West
by the land of James E. Thomp-
son and running thereon 100'
(one hundred feet)
AND WHEREAS a claim for
compensation has been lodged
by one William Sweeting with
the Colonial Secretary for the
said land NOW THEREFORE,
it is hereby notified that the
selected land has been appro-
priated by the Governor in
Council for the purpose men-
tioned in the said notice with
effect from the date of this no-
tice.
