ORDER IN COUNCIL
made under
THE MAGISTRATES ACT
(Ch. 43).
WHEREAS by section 10 of the
Magistrates Act the Governor in
Council may by Order in Coun-
cil nominate any justice of the


peace, and empower him to try
cases singly within the limits of
any district or area defined by
the order and during the period
specified in such order;
NOW THEREFORE the Gov-
ernor in Council in exercise of
the powers vested in them by
the said section 10 of the
Magistrates Act hereby nomi-
nate Mr. William McPherson
Christie, Justice of the Peace
to try cases singly in the City
of Nassau in the Island of New
Providence in respect of of-
fences against the Motor Car
Act 1943 (No. 10 of 1943) and
all rules made thereunder, the
Cycle Registration Act 1936
(No. 10 of 1936) and section 229
sub-sections (16) to (29) and
(34), section 230, section 231 and
section 232 of the Penal Code
(Chapter 60) and all rules made
under the said sections.
This Order shall come into
force on the First day of Jan-
uary, 1953 and shall expire on
the Thirtieth day of June, 1953.

REGULATIONS
Made Under
THE IMPORTATION OF
ANIMALS ACT, Cap. 237.

In exercise of the powers
vested in him by Section 3 of
The Inportation of Animals
Act the Governor in Council
hereby makes the following
Regulations.
1. These Regulations may be
cited at The Importation of
Animals (Restriction) Regula-
tions, 1953.
2. During the currency of
these Regulations no poultry
shall be imported into the Col-
ony from Haiti.

Council this 18th day of Feb-
ruary, 1953.

timated that two free seats on
the sidewalks outside Bucking-
ham Palace are to be offered to
each holder of any of the fol-
lowing Decorations:
Victoria Cross
George Cross
Albert Medal in Gold
Edward Medal in Silver
2. Holders of the Victoria
Cross should apply direct to the
War Office (M.S.3) Stanmore,
Middlesex, and all others to the
Central Chancery of the Orders
of Knighthood, 8 Buckingham
Gate, London, S.W.1. All ap-
plications must be received in
the United Kingdom by March-
14th next.
3. Any persons qualified to
take advantage of this arrange-
ment will be responsible for
making his own arrangements
to go to London at the time of
the Coronation and to reserve
his own accommodation. It is
not possible for the Colonial
Office to assist in these matters

Gazette Notice No. 38 of the
17th February, 1953, notified
that Her Majesty the Queen
had approved of the retention
within the Colony of the title
"Honourable" by Mr. Herbert


Arnold McKinney on his retire-
ment from the Executive Coun-
cil. In order to avoid any
misunderstanding it can be
declared that His Late Majesty
the King similarly approved of
the retention of the title "Hon-
ourable" by the Honourable
Sidney Farrington on his re-
tirement from the Executive
Council. Notification of this
approval was not, however,
Gazetted as it was received
a f t e r the Honourable Sidney
Farrington had been appointed
a Member of the Legislative
Council. This latter appoint-
ment already carries the title
"Honourable".

Certificates of Exemption
granted under Section 255 (10)
(a) of the Penal Code.


It is hereby notified for gen-
eral information that on and
after the 2nd day of March,
1953 applications for Certi-
ficates of Exemption from the
provisions of Section 255 of the
Penal Code will require to be
made to the Commissioner of
Police at the Central Police
station, Nassau.
2. Applications must be ren-
dered in duplicate on a pro-
forma which is available at the
Central Police Station.
3. It should be noted that
all such Certificates require the
approval of the Governor in
Council. Accordingly all Certi-
ficates granted in pursuance
of applications made on or be-
fore 12 o'clock noon on Tues-
day in any week will be avail-
able for collection at the Cen-
tral Police Station on Thursday
in that week, unless for any
reason the weekly meeting of
Executive Council does not take
place on the intervening Wed-
nesday, in which case the
Certificates now referred to will
be available for collection on
Thursday in the following week.

A vacancy exists in the Stores
Department of the Public
Works Department for a Store-
keeper Grade I The salary is
on the scale of 650-25-750 per
annum.
Duties of the post include re-
sponsibility for the issue and
receipt of all stores used by the
Department, safekeeping o f
stores, and stores accounting.
Appointment is on probation
and non-pensionable in the
first instance. The post is cov-
ered by a Bond. Applicants
should be at least 30 years of
age, with at least 10 years ex-
perience of storekeeping in a
responsible position particular-
ly with reference to hardware,
plumbing, and contractor's sup-
plies for the Building Trade. A
sound knowledge of stores ac-
counting and the keeping of
perpetual inventory ledgers un-
der audit conditions is essen-
tial.
Applications in writing should
be sent to the Director of Pub-
lic Works, P. O. Box 156, not
later than 25th February, 1953.
giving details of age, qualifica-
tions, and experience. Envelopes
