NOTICE

SCOPE OF WORK

Irrigation Works-Spring Hal
Development Scheme

Rural

General:
The project area consists of approximately 850
acres of arable land on the former Spring Hall
group of plantations in St. Lucy, in northern Bar-
bados and includes Spring Hall, Friendship,
Mount Poyer and Chance Hall, an irregular
shaped area about 21 miles long by 1 mile wide
at its broadest. Much of the land is gently
undulating with slopes of 10" being quite frequent
and of 20 in stony outcrops.

The area lies within the 50 inch rainfall
contour.
The object of the project is to develop a plan
for the maximum safe exploitation of the ground-

water resources in the above region and its
surroundings for the purpose of irrigating the
area. Already there are four active wells in the
area.

Design Phase:
1. The Consultant will be expected to familiar-
rise himself with the geology of the region
with particular reference to water bearing
formations, groundwater, movements, pre-
sence of harmful minerals and salts, the
strength and porosity of foundations for
proposed structures.
2. The Consultant will review and analyse hy-
drological data to determine rainfall rates
and frequencies, infiltartion, run-off,
groundwater storage and depletion and
losses due to evaporation and transpiration.

3. The Consultant will undertake sub-surface
investigations to determine the location, ex-
tent depth, character and permeability of
water bearing formations, tne velocity of
underground flows and depth to natural
water surface. In addition information on
each well used should include drawdown,
circle of influence, water quality and
capacity.

4. The Consultant will prepare and submit for
preliminary approval plans for pumping
stations, supply system and associated
works. Upon arrival of the preliminary
submission, design and prepare final con-
tract drawings for the project.

5. The Consultant will develop and tabulate all
items entering into the construction with
the corresponding estimated quantities and
prepare all specifications and contract
documents.

An estimate of construction cost is to be
submitted to the client for his confidential
use.

6. Information as to the projected land use,
water demand and usage will be supplied
to the Consultant by the Ministry of
Agriculture.

Construction Phase:
I. The Consultant will be expected to assist in
securing bids, in analysing bids and in
letting contracts: and will furnish adequate
engineering services for the proper control
and supervision of the project.

2. The Consultant will be expected to check
contractors estimates of work completed
and materials on site and to issue certificate
for payment
