CARIBBEAN METEROLOGICAL
INSTITUTE


Applications are invited for the post of
TECHNICAL OFFICER (ELECTRONICS)
at the Caribbean Meteorological Institute,
Barbados
Mininum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree
(or equivalent qualifications) in electrical engineer-
ing with specialisation in electronics. Experience in
the field of radar is highly desirable.
Duties: The successful candidate will be
required to assist with the maintenance and repair
of weather radar uni:s and a wide range of other
electronic equipment. He will be stationed at the
institute but wll be required to undertake travel
throughout the Caribbean in connection with his.
duties.
Salary: In the scale BDS $8,472-14,088. A,
non-contributory pension scheme is shortly to be-
introduced.

Details regarding the Temporary Post of
Archkiect, M.nistry of Education, Youth Affairs,
Community Development and Sport

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified persons for appointment to the
above post.
Qualifications:
(a) Associateship of the Royal Institute of
Br:tish Architects; or
(b) Registered Architect in the United King-
dom; or
(c) A Degree from an approved School of
Architecture plus three t3) years' Post.
Graduate experience.
Salary:
The salary of the post will be in the scale
$9,720 x 384-10,872 x 504-12,888 x 600-
14,088. With effect from 1st April, 1975, the
salary scale, which will remain in force until
further notice, w;ll be $10.224 x 384-11,376 x
528-13,488 x 600-14,688.
Duties:
Design-Designing educational facilities, super-
vising the preparation of working drawings anJ
-specifications for tenders, preparing contract
doucments, supervision of construction and pro-
cessing Certificates for payment. Maintenance-
Assisting the Buildings Officer in preparation of
maintenance contracts, preparation of detail
darwings for maintenance projects, grounds,
toilets, Community Centres and playing fields,
advising on land and building purchases anid
measuring existing facilities.
Appointment:
The post is temporary and appointment would
be on contract. A gratuity of 20% of basic salary
is payable on satisfactory completion of agree-
ment or annually at the option of the officer.
Leave:
Leave is granted as follows: -
,Vacation Leave:--42 days' vacation leave a
year of which 14 must be taken annually or
lost. Maximum accumulation of leave-
126 days. 21days sick leave a year.
General:
All officers are generally subject to such
Regulations, Rules, Orders and Departmental
instructions as may be in force in the Island from
time to time.

(to be used by officers employed in the Public
,Service of Barbados) and S. C. 21 (in the case of
o'her applicants) should be submitted to the Chief

GOVERNMENT OF ANTIGUA,

Purchase of Dredge

1. The Government of Antigua, West Indies,
invites tenders for the supply of a standard
Demountable Cutter _..ction Dredge mounted on
pontoon and suitable for transport by rcaj.
2. The Dredge should have the following
general specifications which are intended to be as
a guide and are not rigid requirements.

3. The hull of the Dredge can be either a
single pontoon or may consist of a main pontoon
and a number of side pontoons. The dredge
,pumps, hydraulic pumps and auxiliaries may be
dr.ven by a single d.esel engine mounted on the
main pontoon. The controls for the engines,
winches, pumps and other hydraulic un!tc, should
be mounted on a single panel located in the cabin.
The Dredge is to be supplied with approx.
2000 feet of 8 inch diameter discharge pipeline
and is to be comoletelv i ted with all necessary
cutter, cutter ladder spuds, winches, etc., for full
operation.
4. The Dredge is required for earliest possible
delivery. Ten'e- ers are required to stAte delivery
date to port of shipping.
5. The tender price should be quoted in Eastern
Caribbean Dollars, C.I.F. Antigua, West Indies.
6. Tenders will only be cons dered by firms or
joint-ventures whose regular place of business is

VACANCY FOR TECHNICAL OFFICER

SHE Caribbean Meteorological Organisation
(CMO) is inviting applications from experi-
enced West Indian meteorologists for the post of
Technical Officer in the CMO Headquarters Unit,
Port of Spain, Trinidad. The Officer who should
be at least at the level of Class II (World Meteo-
rological Organisation Classification of Meteoro-

logical Personnel) will be based in Trinidad, but
will be required to serve in other Member-
countries of the CMO.
Under the general direction of the Co-ordinat-
ing Director, the Technical Officer will be
required to:
(i) visit such Member-countries of the CMO as
may be necessary and to report on their
meteorological services;
(ii) assist with the establishment of new weather
forecasting offices;
(iii) check and report on the implementation of
international standards and practices in
those Member-countries which do not
possess national meteorological services;
(iv) review the meteorological instrumentation
and equipment needs in each country and
make any necessary recommendations for
remedying deficiencies;
(v) recommend and arrange, as necessary,
for the repair and calibration of meteoro-
logical instruments by the Caribbean
Meteorological Institute;
(vi) to work as counterpart to the Regional
Meteorological Adviser (at present based in
Antigua) for a period of one. year;
(vii) to carry out such functions as may be
assigned to him from time to time.
Conditions of service are those applicable to
posts in the Caribbean Commonwealth Secretariat
and the salary attached to the post is in the scale
IT $890X30-$1010 per month. In addition a
housing allowance of $250 per month and a motor
vehicle allowance of $90 per month are payable.

East Caribbean Currency Authority Vacant Posts

The Eastern Caribbean Currency Authority
invites applications for appointment to the posts
,f Secretary to the Managing Director and Secre-
:ary to the Deputy Manag:ng Director. The Head-
)quarters of the Authority will be transferred to
St. Kitts in early 1975 and the persons appointed
to these posts will be required to undertake to
move with the Authority to St. Kitts.
Duties
(1) The Secretary to the Manag:ng Director will
be required:
(a) to undertake all the normal duties of a
Confidential Secretary;
(b) to register, record and file incoming and
outgoing confidential mail;
(c) to c'rculte both confidential and
ordinary mail as directed by the
Director;
(d) to supervise th1e work of other office
Se:reta-ies and typists and to prepare
confidential reports on their perform-
ance;


(e) to carry out such other related dut es as
may be assigned by the Managing
Director.
(2) The Secretary to the Deputy Manag:ng
Director will be required:
(:) to perform the duties of Secretary to
lhe Deputy Managing Direetor;
(b) to assist with general office typing;
(c) to undertake such other related duties
as may be assigned by the Manag:ng
Director/Deputy Managing Director.
Qualifications
Applicants must have recognized secretarial
qualifications with minimum speeds of Shorthand
100 w.n.m. arid Typing 60 w.p.m. Applicants
must also have had secretarial exper:en:e of at
least 5 years, and should preferably be in the age
:ange 25-40 years. The successful applicants
will be expected to show initiative and have good
personal qualities.
Salary
(a) Secretary to Managing Director: $7,920+3
x 300-$8820.
(b) Secretary to Deputy Managing Director:
$6,960 + 3 x 300-7,860.

The point of entry in the scale will depend 6n
qualifications, training and experience.
Allowances
A house allowance at the rate of $1500 per
annum will be payable during the period that the
headquarte's of the Authority remain in Barbados,
provided that the successful applicant is not a
national of Barbados.
Leave
24 working days (including Saturdays, exclud-
ing Bank Holidays) leave per calendar year.
Passages
The Authority will meet the cost of passages to
Barbados and will be prepared to reimburse any
reasonable claim made in respect of the cost of
:he transportation to Barbados of personal and
household effects.
Barbados Income Tax
Staff employed by the Authority at its head-
quarters in Barbados are exempted from the
payment of income tax.
Pension Contribution
In the case where a successful applicant is a
public officer who has been seconded by a parti-
cipating Government to the service of the
Authority, a pension contribution will be paid by
te Authority to the participating Government.

Grouo Medical Insurance Plan for the benefit of
its staff.
