NOTICE
t PPLICATIONS are invited for a post of
.1 Junior Technical Officer (Instruments) at the
Caribbean Meteorological Institute, Barbados.
The successful candidate will be responsible,
after a period of on-the-job training, and, under
supervision, for the maintenance and repair of a
wide range of meteorological instruments, e.g.
temperature, humidity, wind, rainfall and solar
radiation recorders, barometers, thermometers,
etc. He wll be stationed at the Institute at
Husbands, Barbados but will be required to under-
take, as part of his duties, frequent travel
throughout the Caribbean to carry out inspection
and repair work.
The successful candidate will have acquired 'O'
level passes in Mathematics and/or Physics and
English Language and should have qualifications
at least equivalent to the City Guilds 'O' level
(Instrumentation).
Applications should be addressed to the Prin-
cipal, Caribbean Meteorological Institute, P.O.
Box 139, Bridgetown, Barbados and should
reach him not later than 30th April, 1973.

tof the Area. This includes the responsibility of
establishing curricula, designing syllabuses and

including examinations conducted at the request
Af any Member Governments.
The Registrar and Pro-Registrar will be
directly responsible for the establ shment of the
two Centres. They will work closely with the
Examinations Committee of the Council and with.
the National Committees establ;'sed in t a. h c.i the
-sixteen Participating Countries. They will be in
immediate responsibility to the Administrative
and Finance Committee of the Council, and
through the Chairman of the Council, to the full
Council itself. Salaries and allowances based on
,qualifications and experience will be as follows: -
Registrar ... EC $24,000-
$27,600
Pro-Registrar J. $ 9,000-
$10,000
Allowances- Housing ... EC $4,800 or
J. $2,000
per annum
Entertainment EC $1,803 or
J. $750
per annum
will be payable to both posts. Officers appointed
,on contract will receive a 20% gratuity of basic
salary. Passages for officers and family up to a
maximum of EC $3,000 or J $1,250 and freight
and other expenses for personal and household
,effects, not exceeding EC $2,000 or J. $833.33 are
payable to officers recruited overseas. Contracts
will be for a period of three years in the first
instance, subject to review and possibly renewal.
The successful applicants, who must be holders
-of appropriate academic or professional qualifi-
cations, will be responsible for the establishment
,and subsequent operation of the respective Centres
"and for .he conduct of examinations as decided
by the Council.
A knowledge of West Indian Education System
and Examinaitions procedures would be an asset


but the suo:essful applicants must be. prepared to
undergo training as required.

Government Scholarships for
Teachers and Iniending Teachers


p HE Government of Grenada with assistance
I from the Canadian International Develop-
ment Agency is offering to teachers and inlend.ng
teachers scholarships m the following fields of
study at the University of the West Indies:-
(a) Three-year degree course in General Studies
including West Indian History, Geogra-
phy, English, Spanish and French;
(b) Three-year degree course in Naural Science.
(a) and (b) to be followed by one-year
course leading to the Diploma in Educa-
Stion;
(c) Two-year course leading to the Bachelor
of Education Degree;
(d) One-year course leading to the Certificate
in Education;
(e) One-year post graduate course leading to
the D.ploma in Education.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess the minimum qualifi-
cation requirements for admission to the parti-
cluar Faculty of the University of the West
Indies. Secondary School students who expect
to qualify later this year could apply.

Information on University qualification require-
ments can be obtained from the Extra-Mural
Department, Marryshow House.

Value o Scholarships:
Each award will cover the cost of board and
lodge, tuition, books and travel.

Agreement:
Successful candidates will be required to enter
into an agreement to serve in the teaching service
for a period of at least three years after com-
pletion of the course.
