Institutions under the General Cultural Scholar-
ship Scheme for 1973-74.

Commonwealth Caribbean Regional Secretariat
Vacancy for Nursing Officer

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified persons for the post of Nursing
Officer in the Commonwealth Caribbean Regional
Secretariat.
The duties of the post include:-


qualifications and broad experience in nursing
education and administration.
Salary and Allowances:
The salary scale attached to the post is
EC $9,600 x $360-$11,040 per annum with a
house allowance of EC $3,000 per annum.
General Information and Conditions:
Staff members recruited from outside Guyana
will be paid:-
(i) settlement grants at the following rates:-

Entries for Cookery, Needlework and Dress-
making, Music, and Science subjects cannot be
accepted unless satisfactory arrangements are
made beforehand for Practical Tests.
A fee of $2 is payable by each candidate for
each Oral Test direct to the Oral Examiner.
A new system of Entry documentation has
been introduced for the G.C.E. Examinations in
June 1973. A single Entry Form for Schools
candidates (Form E.C. 1), printed as a two part
carbonised set, will replace the former red and
green G.C.E. school Entry Forms, each candi-
date using one index number for entries at A, AO,
and O levels, the index number being shown once
instead of twice as at present. A Private Candi-
date's form (Form E.C. 2) will replace the former
entry form for Private Candidates.
All papers will be set in Metric Units for
Woodwork, Metalwork, Geometrical and Mech.
Drawing, and Surveying.
Private Candidates, who are taking the G.C.E.
Examinations for the first time, must satisfy the
Local Secretary that they are eligible to sit, by
producing evidence that they have passed the
,Qualifying Test, as determined by the Chief
Education Officer.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan
Trinidad and Tobago Post-graduate Scholarship
in Tropical Agriculture-1973


TNDER the Commonwealth Scholarship/Fel-
lowship Plan, the Government of Trinidad
and Tobago is making available one (1) award
for post-graduate studies/research in Tropical
Agriculture leading to a post-graduate degree or
diploma, where appropriate, and tenable at the
University of the West Indies, St. Augustine,
Trinidad, effective from the academic year com-
mencing October, 1973.
The area of study will be limited to the research
and teaching facilities available at the University
of the West Indies, St. Augustine.
This award is tenable for two (2) academic
years in the first instance (unless the course of
study is for a shorter period), with a possibility
of its being extended for a third year, in the
absolute discretion of the Government of Trinidad


and Tobago, if the candidate's work attains such
a standard that he is recommended by the
University Authorities to study for the Ph.D.
Degree.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be Commonwealth citizens or
British protected persons normally resident in
the nominating country. Applicants must already
have a first degree or equivalent qualification in
Agriculture from a recognized institution of study
at the time of application. As a general rule,
applicants should not be more than thirty-five
(35) years of age on 1st October, 1973. Preference
may be given to candidates between twenty-two
(22) and twenty-eight (28) years of age. A
detailed statement from the University or institu-
tion of higher learning from which the applicant
graduated must accompany each application
form. This statement must show the subjects
studied in each year of study and the results
obtained in each subject. The grades achieved
must be indicated, if possible.

APPLICATION

Applications must be made through the Com-
monwealth Scholarship Agency of the country
making its nomination. Applications must be in
sextuplicate on the prescribed form and nomina-
tions must reach the Government of Trinidad
and Tobago by 31st December, 1972.
Originals of Birth and Educational Certificates
need not be submitted provided that they have
been seen by the nominating authority and parti-
culars stated in the application are certified by
the agency as corrected.
The following documents must accompany
each application:
(1) Six certified copies of applicant's Univer-
sity/College record (including degree certi-
ficates) the subject studied and, as far as
possible, the grades attained during each
year of study.
(2) Six copies of a statement of not more than
two hundred (200) words outlining the
applicant's proposed pla of study and/
or research in Trinidad and Tobago.
(3) Confidential comments from three Referees.
Application forms are available at the appro-
priate Commonwealth Scholarship Agencies and
at the offices of the Government of Trinidad and
Tobago, in the United Kingdom, Canada,
Jamaica, Guyana and India.

VALUE OF AWARD (Allowances etc.)

The following expenses will be met by the
Government of Trinidad and Tobago:-
(i) Passage from the nominating country to
Trinidad and back for the scholar as
arranged by the Government of Trinidad
and Tobago;
(ii) Tuition and examination fees:
(iii) Any other compulsory University fees
(excluding board and residence fees but

including refundable deposits such as
Caution Money, which will be paid by
and refunded to the Government of
Trinidad and Tobago);
(iv) Cost of approved travelling connected with
ta:. course of study in Trinidad and
Tobag to a maximum of TT $200 per
annum (This is not intended to cover
travelling from the normal place of resi-
dence to the University);
(v) Book allowance of TT $240 per annum;
(vi) A personal maintenance allowance of
TT $300 per month to cover board and
lodging, daily travel and personal expenses:
(vii) Reasonable hotel charges fo a period of
one (1) week after arrival in Trinidad
(hotel accommodation to be arranged by
the Government of Trinidad and Tobago)
to permit the scholar to find accommoda-
tion.
If the scholar is accompanied by his wife and/
or children:-
(viii) A wife allowance of TT $1,440 per
annum, provided that she is not employed;
and
(ix) Allowances of TT $360 per annum for the
first child and TT $288 Der annum each
for the second and the third child. Allow-
ances are not paid for more than three (3)
children.
N.B. The above allowances are not subject to
tax in Trinidad and Tobago.
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF AWARD
The scholar must return to his own country at
the end of the scholarship and in this connection
is required to give a written undertaking to do so
when submitting his/her application.
The scholar must follow the approved course
of study and abide by the rules of the University
of the West Indies.
An award may be terminated at any time for
reasons of unsatisfactory conduct, for a breach of
the conditions of award or for failure to make
satisfactory progress.
The scholar will not normally be permitted to
take up paid employment during the tenure of
his/her award.
Candidates for the scholarship must have a
good knowledge of written and spoken English.
The successful candidate will be required to
submit a Medical Certificate as to general, physi-
cal and mental fitness before the award can be
confirmed.

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their
respective District Revenue Offices, and then
approach the Inspector of the Motor Vehicles at
the Traffic Branch, Fire Station, in advance with
a view to affecting any alterations that may be
necessary to comply with the provisions of the
Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Ordinance, and
of the Regulations made thereunder.

Vehicles must be presented in a throughly clean
condition, and must have been recently over-

hauled. The body and wings, axle, chassis frame,
steering arms, springs, trackrods, brake connec-
tions, shackles, bolts, nuts, splitpins, engine,
engine shield and case, clutch, gearbox, magneto,
br coil, air filter, carburettor and all working
parts must be cleaned in order to admit a proper
examination. Dust covers, if used must be
removed before presentation in order to admit of
an examination being made in full. All split
pins, etc., must be clearly exposed, also chassis
and engine numbers. Drivers' seats must be
securely fastened so that the dirver can have
proper control over the vehicle. Spotsl.ghts, musi-
cal horns and whistles are strictly prohibited.
Each vehicle must have its tare and maximum
gross weight painted in white figures not less
than 2 inches in height upon a black back
ground in a conspicuous place on the right or
off-side of the vehicles.
The Registered Identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regula-
tions 7, 8 and 9 and the second schedule to the
Regulations S.R. & O. No. 151 and be in such
a condition as to render each letter or figure
readily distinguishable. The attention of owners
of motor omibuses and goods vehicles is specially
directed to Regulations 23 (11) (a) regarding the
position of front lamps. Spot lights will not be
allowed except with the written approval of the
Licensing Authority.
The attention of the owners of hiring cars and
motor omibuses is directed to Regulation 50 (2)
of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Regula-
tions S.R. & O. No. 151 of the Revised Laws of
Grenada which require that printed copies of the
tariffs and maximum fares be displayed in such
vehicles. These are now available and may be
purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District Revenue Office at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspec-
tor to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued a certificate, certifying
that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

Tenders for Carriacou Mail and Passenger Service


SEALED tenders are invited for the conveyance of mails, passengers and cargo weekly between
' Grenada and Carriacou by auxilliary vessel for the period Ist January, to 31st December, 1973,
in accordance with the schedules given hereunder.

: The vessels to be used for the service must not be less than 40 tons and must be equipped
with adequate seating accommodation and sanitary facilities for not less than (30) thirty passengers'
