COMMONWEALTH CARIBBEAN
REGIONAL SECRETARIAT

VACANCY FOR CHEMICAL/INDUSTRIAL
ENGINEER

A PPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified persons for the post of Chemical/
Industrial Engineer in the Commonwealth
Caribbean Regional Secretariat.

THE DUTIES OF THE POST ARE:

(i) To examine and advise on the technical
aspects of projects including: -
the selection of plant and equipment;


the evaluation and adaption of alter-
native processes to suit local conditions
and raw material inputs;
(ii) To assist or conduct industrial surveys and
feasibility studies;
(iii) Other duties as may be assigned from time
to time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The qualifications for the post are:
(i) An Honours Degree in Chemical Engineer-
ing, but an Honouis Degree in Mecnanical
Engineering will also be considered; and
(ii) Post-Graduate training in Economics, Busi-
ness Management or Industrial Engineering
is essential.
Working experience in the field will be a
distinct advantage.

SALARY AND ALLOWANCES:

The salary of the post is G $11,718 x $651-
$14,322 per annum. In addition the holder will be
paid a house allowance of G $3,255 per annum.

Persons recruited from outside of Guyana will
be paid settlement grants at the following rates: -
G $520.80 for himself
G $434.00 for his wife
G $217.00 for each eligible child over 12
years
G $108.50 for each eligible child from 5
to 12 years
G $217.00 for each eligible approved de-
pendent up to a maximum of two
dependents.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND CONDITIONS:

(i) For a person recruited from outside of
Guyana-
(a) economy class air passage by the most
direct route to Guyana will be provided
for himself, wife, a maximum of three
unmarried and dependent children below
the age of 18 years and a maximum of
two other approved dependents;
(b) ocean freight charges on shipping per-
sonal and household effects up to twenty
tons ship's measurement (800 cubic feet)
plus a car will be paid.
(ii) Membership of the Commonwealth Carib-
bean Regional Secretariat Pension Scheme is
compulsory except where an officer is
seconded from the public service of a
Member Government in which case the
Secretariat will contribute to his pension
plan with that Government.
(iii) Secretariat staff members are not required
to pay income tax to the Government of
Guyana.
(iv) The appointment will be subject to passing
a physical fitness test and to such regu-
lations, rules, orders and instructions as

exist now and as may be introduced from
time to time.

Applications must in each case be accompan-
ied by a curriciulin vitae and state the names of
two referees and the earliest date at which the
applicant would be able to assume duties.

Vacant Post of Audio Visual Aids Officer, Audio
Visual Aids Department, Ministry of Education

A PPLICATIONS are invited from suitable
qualified persons for appointment to the
abovementioqed post.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Candidates should have at least five (5) years
practical experience as a teacher, and should have
a recognized professional certificate such as the
Erdiston Teachers' Training Certificate, or
equivalent. A Diploma in the Theory and
Practice of A)udio-Visual methods in Education

and/or an Audio-Visual Aids Technician's Certi-
ficate of the City and Guilds of London Institute
will be an asset.

SALARY:

The salary of the post is in the scale $6,720 x
240-7,200 x 300-$8,100.

DUTIES :

The officer will be required:
(a) To promote in the schools the use of
various types of audio-visual media in
education;
(b) To assist in teacher-training through
group organizations, induction course,
Saturday morning classes and through the
activities of audio-visual aids workshops;
(c) To assist with programming for audio-
visual aids in schools, and in preparing
scripts for the production of slides and
filmstrips;
(d) To participate in research to evaluate
the effectiveness of audio-visual techni-
ques;


(e) To perform such other duties as he may
be required to perform from time to time.

APPOINTMENT:

The appointment is subject to medical fitness
and a probationary period of two years excep, in
the case of serving officers. Salary is subject to a
deduction of 2% per annum under the Widows
and Children Pensions Act. The officer will be
generally subject to such orders, rules and regu-
lations as may be inforce from time to time.

and S.C. 21 (in the case of other applicants) and
