NOTICE
SCHOLARSHIP TO THE COLLEGE OF THE
VIRGIN ISLANDS
fR. Myron Hokin of the David Hokin Founda-
1I tion, Chicago Heights, Illinois is offering a
special Scholarship to a student from Grenada
tenable at the College of the Virgin Islands,
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, from September,
1969. The Scholarship grant will include tuition,
health insurance, room and board, books and
equipment and two round trip air fares between
Grenada and St. Thomas.
The College of the Virgin Islands offers 4-year
programmes of studies leading to Bachelor of
Arts degrees in liberal arts and sciences. Major
concentrations are in the fields of English,
Spanish, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Biology
and Chemistry.

The College also offers two-year occupational
programmes leading to the Associate in Arts
degree in Accounting, Business Management,
Hotel operation and Management, Executive
Secretarial Studies, Construction Technology and
Nursing.
The minimum qualification for admission to the
College is four G.C.E. O'Level subjects including
English Language. Consideration will be given
to students who are presently writing the G.C.E.
examinations. One condition of the award is that
a candidate must be financially unable to meet
the cost of further education.
Applications must reach the Chief Education
Officer, Ministry of Social Affairs, by 12th July,
1969, and should be supported by a recommenda-
tion from the principal of the last school which
the applicant attended. Applicants should state:
(a) the qualifications they hold;
(b) the occupation of their parents;
(c) the courses which they intend to pursue.

SECTION 1.


Food : There were increases in the prices of bacon, sardines, rice, cooking oil, canned
pineapple juice but these increases were not offset by decreases in the prices of corned
beef, table butter. cooking butter and corn flour, consequently, this group index rose
by 3.86 units to 134.39


SECTION 2. Alcoholic Drinks and Tobacco : This group index remains at 126.62.


SECTION 3.


Housing : Appreciable increases in the prices of galvanised sheets, nails, oil paint,
emulsion paint, cement and pitch pine, caused this group index to rise by 7.29 units
to 123.39.


SECTION 4. Fuel and Light : Increases in the prices of charcoal and matches caused this group
index to rise by 3.43 units to 116.30.

SECTION 5. Householdand Miscellaneous Items : This group index remains at 120.07.

SECTION 6. Clothing and Footwear : This group index remains at 133.48.

SECTION 7. Services : This group index remains at 127.10.

The all items index for May, rose by 3.1 units to 130.7
