NOTICE

SCHOLARSHIP TO THE COLLEGE OF THE
VIRGIN ISLANDS

11iR. Myron Hokin, of the David Hokin Founda-
L. ttion, Chicago Heights, Illinois is offering a
special Scholarship to a student from Grenada
tenable at the College of the Virgin Islands,
St. Thomass U.S. Virgin Islands, from September,
1969. The Scholarship grant will include tuition,
health insurance, room and board, books and
equipment and two round trip air fares between
Grenada and St. Thomas.
The College of the Virgin Islands offers 4-year
programmes of studies leading to Bachelor of
Arts degrees in liberal arts and sciences, Major
concentrations are in the fields of English,
Spanish, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Biology
and Chemistry.
The College also offers two-year occupational
programmes leading to the Associate in Arts
degree in Accounting, Business Management,
Hotel operation and Management, Executive
Secretarial Studies, Construction Technology and
Nursing.
The minimum qualification for admission to the
College is four G.C.E. O'Level subjects including
English Language. Consideration will be given
to students who are presently writing the G.C.E.
examinations. One condition of the award is that
a candidate must be financially unable to meet
the cost of further education.
Applications must reach the Chief Education
Officer, Ministry of Social Affairs, by 12th July,
1969, and should be supported-by a recommenda-
tion from the principal of the last school which
the applicant attended. Applicants should state:
(a) the qualifications they hold;
(P) the opcupation of their parents;
(o) the courses which they intend to pursue.

Food : There were decreases in the prices of salted beef, corned beef, cod fish and
garlic, but these decreases were overbalanced by increases in the prices of salrion,
cream of wheat, cabbage, oranges, tomatoes and grapetruit juice. This grbtipi index
rose by .84 units to 130.53.
Alcoholic Drinks and Tobacco : An increase in the price of rum and tobacco caused
this group index to rise by 2.70 uhits to 126.62.
Housing : Increased house rentals caused this group index to rise by 6.34 units to
116.10.

Fuel and Light : Increases in the prices of charcoal and matches caused this group
index to riseby 5,02 units to 112.87.

Household and Miscellaneous Items : There were increases in the prices of beds,
toothpaste, vicks vaporub, epsom salts and dettol thus causing this group index
to rise by 4.01 units to 120.07.
Clothing and Footwear : Increases in the prices of cotton short sleeve shirts, vests,
briefs, khaki, wool and part wool material, shoes and rayon panties caused this
group index to 'ise by 8.78 units to 133.48.
Services : There were increase in Servants' wages and tailoring. Thus causing this
group index to rise by 10.53 units to 127.10.


The all items index for April, 1969 rose by 2.9 units to 127.6
