NOTICE

Commonwealth Scholarships 1969-Government
of Ceylon Awards


APPLICATIONS are invited for Common-
weath Scholarships tenable in Ceylon from
October, 1969.

2. The Government of Ceylon is offering three
post-graduatet Scholarships and three under-
graduates Scholarships to students from other
parts of the Commonwealth. These awards are
available in many fields of study. Further
information may be obtained from the Chief
Education Officer, Ministry of Social Affairs,
St. George's.

3. Application forms can be obtained from the
Ministry of Social Affairs and the completed
forms accompanied by the candidate's plan of
study, the certified record of his Secondary
School or University Course he has taken and the
letter of reference from each of three persons
named on the application forms must reach the
Chief Education Officer on or before 23rd
November, 1968.

4. It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure
that references from the referees named by him
reach the Chief Education Officer by the closing
date.

5. Applications not accompanied by school
records and photostat copies of certificates and
diplomas, or in respect of which letters of
reference are not received will not be considered.

University of Cambridge Local Examinations
Syndicate, General Certificate of Education


THE Entry Forms and Time-Tables for the 1969
G.C.E. Examinations have arrived; and
Principals of Schools as well as intending Private
Candidates, are hereby invited to apply at the
office of the Local Secretary (located at the
Botanic Gardens) for their requirements.
Private Candidates, who are taking the G.C.E.
Examinations for the first time, must satisfy the
local Secretary that they are qualified to take the
Examinations by producing evidence that they
have passed the qualifying Test, as determined by
the Chief Education Officer.
The Examinations are scheduled to take place
during the period Monday 2 June, to Friday 27th
June, 1969. However, Oral Tests in French, and


Spanish, and Practical Cookery. will be conducted
before June 2. These dates will be notified.
Entry Forms duly completed, must reach the
Local Secretary on or before Tuesday, 31
December, 1968, together with Treasury Receipts
for the Examination Fees. Arrangements satis-
factory to the Local Secretary must be made
beforehand by Private Candidates taking Practical
Tests in Science subjects also Cookery and
Needlework and Dressmaking.
Examination Fees remain the same as in former
years, i.e. Entrance Fees per Candidate: Local
$5. Cambridge $7.20; Subject Fees per subject.
A-Level $7.20, AO and O-Levels $2.40.No late
Entries will be accepted; and no cash remittances,
cheques, paper currency or Money Orders, may
be accepted by the Local Secretary. Candidates
who forward Entry Forms by mail do so at their
own risk.

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
respective District Revenue Offices and then ap-
proach the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the
Traffic Branch. Fire Station, in advance with a
view to affecting any alteration that may be
necessary to comply with the provisions of the
Motor Vehicles and Road Trafc Ordinance, and
of the Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly
clean condition, and must have been recently
overhauled The body and wings, axle, chassis,
frame steering arms, springs, trackrods, brake
connections, shackles, bolts, nuts, splitpins, engine


Engine shield and case, clutch, gearbox magnets,
or coil air filter, carburetter and all working parts
must be cleaned in order to admit of proper ex-
amination. Dust covers, if used must be removed
before presentation in order to admit of an
examination being made in full. All split pins,
etc., must be clearly exposed, also chassis and
engine numbers. Drivers' seats must be securely
fastened so that the driver can have proper con-
trol over the vehicle spot lights, musical horns and
whistles are strictly prohibited. Each vehicle
must have its rate and maximum gross weight
painted in white figures not less than 2- inches
in height upon a black gack ground in a conspi-
cuous place on the right or off-side of the vehicle.

The Registered Identification marks on all
Vehicles must conform to provisions of Regula-
tions, 7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the
Regulations, S.R. & O. No. 151 and be in such a
condition as to render each letter or figure readily
distinguishable. The attention of owners of
Motor Omnibuses and Goods Vehicles is specially
directed to Regulation 23 (11) (a) regarding the
position of front lamps. Spot lights will not be
allowed except with the written approval of the
Licensing Authority.

The attention of the owners of Hiring Cars and
Motor Omnibus is directed to Regulation 50 (2)
of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Regula-
tions S.R. & O. No. 151 of the Revised Laws of
Grenada which require that printed copies of the
Tariffs and Maximum Fares be displayed in such
vehicles. These are now available and may be
purchased at the Treasury, St. Georges, and at
any District Revenue Office at 4 cents per copy.

Vehicles which have been found by the
Inspector to have defects must not be used on the
roads until they have been issued with a Certifi-
cate, certifying that the vehicles may be duly
licensed.

the prices of cheese, corn flour and onions. This group index rose by .24 units to
128.0.

SECTION 2. Alcoholic Drinks and Tobacco : This group index remains at 121.67.

SECTION 3. Housing : This group index remains at 107.55.

SECTION 4. Fuel and Light : This group index remains at 107.85.

SECTION 5. Household and Miscellaneous Items : An increase in the retail price of Epsom Salts
caused this group index to rise by .07 units to 113.77.

SECTION 6. Clothing and Footwear : Increases in the retail pJices of long sleeve cotton shirts,
briefs, and khaki caused this group index to rise by .27 units to 123.84.

SECTION 7. Services: This group index remains at 115.23.


The All Items Index for July rose by .2 units to 123.0.
