REPORT OF THE AUDITORS

TO
THE GOVERNMENT OF GRENADA
We have audited the annexed Balance Sheet of the Grenada Agricultural Bank dated 31st
December, 1967 and have obtained all the information and explanations which we have required.
In our opinion, such Balance Sheet is properly drawn up so as to exhibit a true and correct
view of the state of the Bank's affairs, according to the best of our information and the explan-
ations given to us, and as shown by the books of the Bank.

PANNELL FITZPATRICK & CO.,

GRENADA AGRICULTURAL BANK

Manager Report
The Board of Directors during the year 1967 comprised:-
The Financial Secretary Chairman
The Attorney General or his Legal Assistant
Mr. Ure Officer in over-all charge of agricultural development
Major F. W. Power
Mr. D. A. Henry
Mr. Abraham Cape
Mr. E. C. Renwick Manager.

10 Board meetings were held during the year 1967. Mr. G. A. Southwell has attended meet-
ings of the Board although not a member. There were no significant policy decisions taken dur-
ing the year to necessitate an amendment of the Bank Ordinance. However, many important
decisions were taken as regards the disbursement of the Bank's funds, and as the Board and Man-
agement gained experience in this specialized institution a modus operandi developed which
allowed for very important decisions to be taken in this relatively new field of Agricultural
Credit in Grenada.

The Bank received advances from Government of Grenada amounting to $850,000 during
the year bringing the total of advances outstanding to $1,500,000. The total of Fixed Deposits
at 1st January, 1967, was $450,000. During the year $200,000 of new Fixed Deposits, and repay-
ments of $450,000 were made leaving a balance of $200,000 at 31.12.67. Attached is a statement
showing the disbursement of loans according to the purpose for which they were made.

The significance of the amount of credit extended for the major export crops can only be
measured by rising output. Bananas showed an increase from 46.8 million pounds in 1966
to 54 million pounds in 1967. Whereas in 1965 the output was 46.2 million pounds. Output
of cocoa rose from 5.3 million pounds to 5.9 million pounds, and nutmegs also showed an in-
crease from 2.2 million pounds to 2.3 million pounds. Exports, however, had not risen for
nutmegs although there were appreciable rises for both cocoa and bananas. Prices for cocoa
rose from an average of 43.48c. per lb. in 1966 to 55.77c. per lb. in 1967. However, the nut-
meg boom of 1966 ended with the return of Indonesia to political stability and prices turned
downwards falling from an average of $2.06 in 1966 to $1.21 in 1967. Bananas continued to
be supported by the Green Boat Price and all in all there was continued incentive during 1967
for expanding output.

During the year the death of Mr. H. D. D. Wilkinson who was Chairman of the Board
from the establishment of the Bank in 1965 was reported. Tribute was paid by each member
for the valuable services rendered. Personnel relations have been excellent throughout the year.
However, it ended rather dolefully with the retirement of Mr. E. C. Renwick who, from the
inception of the Bank, unstintingly devoted his time and energy contributing hist specialized
knowledge and wealth of experience to the operations of the Bank. In recognizing that Mr.
Renwick came into the Bank on the understanding that a suitable replacement would be found
at the earliest opportunity, the part he played throughout the teething years would surely stand
out on record. Furthermore, we are deeply appreciative of the valuable co-operation of our soli-
citor, Mr. Ovid C. Gill.
The possibility of insurance cover for the Bank's staff against injuries obtained during the
course of duty was being considered. Mr. D. A. Henry was pursuing the matter but it has been
left in abeyance since the Board's meeting of 1st September, 1967, when he stated that he had
not then received a reply from the London & Lancashire Insurance Co. Ltd.
The detailed audited statement will be presented at the next meeting.

GEORGE MARECHEAU,
Manager.
