NOTICE

A Bill for an Ordinance shortly entitled the New
Testament Church of God Incorporation
Ordinance, 1963 was read a Second Time in the
Legislative Councilon 20th June, 1963, and referred
to a Select Committee of the House.

Any person who wishes to be heard by the
Committee in opposition to the Bill should lodge
a petition with the Clerk of the Legislative
Council, showing the nature of his objections to
the Bill, and stating whether his objections extend
to the whole or some part of the preamble or t3
the clauses of the said Bill and praying that he
may he heard by himself or his Council against
this Bill.

ANNOUNCEMENT


DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE


Cocoa Industry Improvement Scheme


Distribution of Rooted Cuttings of Selected Strains
of Grenada Cocoa for Planting in 1964


P ERSONS desirous of obtaining planting material
from the Cocoa Stations for planting in 1964,
should apply on the forms provided for that
purpose, entitled : Application Form for plants
Propagated for Distribution by the Department of
Agriculture."
(2) Application forms should be forwarded in
Duplicate to the Cocoa Agronomist, Mt. Home
Cocoa Station, St. Andrew's, to reach him not
later than 31st August, 1963.
(3) Applicatipn received after the 31st August,
1963, will neit lr be acknowledged nor considered.
(4) Application forms are available at the
Department of Agriculture, all Agricultural and
Cocoa Stations, and District Revenue Offices.
Application forms can also be obtained from all
members of the extension staff of the Department
of Agriculture.
(5) Rooted Cocoa Cuttings are delivered at a
cost of 5c. per plant to the applicant at a point, as
near as possible to the site at which they are to be
planted, and accessible at the time to the motor
vehicle conveying the plants.
(6) The conditions under which planting
material will be issued are as follows :-
(i) The area selected by an applicant will be
inspected by an authorised officer as soon
as possible after the receipt of the applica-
tion, for the purpose of determining the
suitability of the site in regards to altitude,
soil type, wind protection and other
ecological and environmental conditions.
The applicant will then be notified whether
or not the area is approved for planting.
(ii) If for stated reasons the area is declared to
be unsuitable for planting cocoa clones, no
allocation of plants will be made to the
applicant.
(iii) If the area is declared suitable, an author-
ised officer will inform the applicant what
minimum action is required of him by the
Department of Agriculture, in regard to
provision of ground shade, windbreaks, soil
conservation measure, soil propagation etc.
The Agricultural Department will render all
assistance, guidance and advice in this
connection.
(iv) The minimum area for which plants will be
issued will be that which will contain fifty
(50) rooted cuttings planted at a spacing of
12ft. x 12ft. in a block.
The area to be planted will be re-inspected
by an authorized officer immediately before
the proposed date of delivery of the plants,
for the purpose of ascertaining whether all

conditions have been satisfactorily fulfilled,
and whether the area is in a suitable state
of preparation for planting.
(v) Authorised officers of the Department of
Agriculture, will make periodic inspections
of the replanted areas, as often as may be
considered necessary, for the purpose of
observing field conditions, the development
of the young plants and advising the grower
on the care and management of the young
plants.
(7) Applicants are advised to take advantage of
the experience already gained in replanting methods
at the Cocoa Stations and other plots, were
replanting with rooted cocoa cuttings have already
been undertaken.
Applicants are accordingly invited to visit the
Cocoa Stations and to make the fullest possible
use of all information that is available,

Please note that:-
A small token charge will be imposed for citrus,
mango, avocado and such economic plants to be
delivered in 1964. This charge bears no relation
to the actual cost of production and will be
imposed with a view to stimulate farmers to take
more care of these plants than in the past, thus
exploiting their full potential.

tethered or otherwise, to browse or feed
upon the hergage growing on the ioad, shall,
upon the information of any person, be liable
on conviction to a fine not exceeding two
pounds."
36. (1) It shall be lawful for the Road Authority
or any police constable or rural constable to
seize or cause to be seized any poundable
animal found tethered or at large upon a
road, and to take such animal or cause it to
be taken to the nearest public pound to be
impounded.
Members of the Force are requested to take
necessary action whenever such animals are found
tethered on any road, in order to avoid danger to
such animals and hazard to motorist and other
persons using the road.

The index was revised in June, 1957, and is shown hereunder as a new series.

COST OF LIVING FIGURES FOR THE MONTH OF MAY, 1963


The revised cost of living figures for all items for the month of May, 1963 is 120.9, a rise
of 20.9 points above the base figure for June, 1957, taken as 100.
The following table shows the cost of living index figure at the end of each month up to June,
1957 as compared with the base year August, 1939 taken as 100; as well as the figures in the series
with the base figure at June, 1957, taken as 100 :-

CHANGES DURING MAY, 1963


Food : There was a decrease in the retail price of tea which resulted in
point below the figure for April, 1963. The group index figure is now 121.14.

Clothing : There were decreases in the retail prices of brassiers and seersucker which outweighed
an increase in khaki and resulted in a decrease of 1.6 points below the figure for April, 1963. The group
index figure now stands at 124.1
Fuel and Cleaning : There were no changes in the retail prices of the items in this group during
the period under review. Like April, 1963, the group index figure of 122 2 remained unchanged.
1)rink and Tobacco: The average level of prices of the items in this group showed no
change during the period. The group index figure therefore remained at 112.6.
Miscellaneous Goods: There were decreases in the retail prices of teacups and saucers aid
flowered edge s-up and dinner plates which resulted in a de-rease of 0.4 point below the figure for
April, 1963. The group index figure therefore fell to 122.5.
