POLICE NOTICE

Tethering Poundable Animals on the Road

THE attention of the Public is drawn to Sections
35 and 36 (1) of the Roads Ordinance Chapter
197, page 1889 of Volume 11 which read as follows :
53i. Whoever tethers or causes to be tethered
any poundable animal in, upon or near a
road so that such animal causes obs ruction
or inconvenience to passers-by, or permits
or causes any poundable animal, whether
tethered or otherwise, to browse or feed
upon the hergage growing on the road, shall,
upon the information of any person, be liable
on conviction to a fine not exceeding two
pounds."
36. (1) It shall be lawful for the Road Authority
or any police constable or rural constable to
seize or cause to be seized any poundable
animal found tethered or at large upon a
road, and to take such animal or cause it to
be taken to the nearest public pound to be
impounded.
Members of the Force are requested to take
necessary action whenever such animals are fund
tethered on any road, in order to avoid danger to
such animals and hazard to motorist and other
persons using the road.

THE Auction Sale of properties for unpaid Land
and House Tax for St. George's for the year
1962 and previous years which was fixed for
Thursday, 6th June, 1963, at 1.30 p.m.. at the
Office of the Inland Revenue Department has been
adjourned to Thursday, 4th July, 1963, at the
same time and place.

bell, from February 18th, 1963, to March 22nd,
1963, of certain boundary lines at "The Rocks" in

Office of the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court

Regulation 22 of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Regulations, 1938

WNERS of public service vehicles (including
motor omnibuses and hiring cars), goods
vehicles and trailers, are hereby notified that the
half-yearly inspection of these vehicles will
commence as follows:-

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then approach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view
to effecting any alterations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor
Vehicles and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and
of the Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly
clean condition, and must have been recently
overhauled. The body and wings, axle, chassis,
frame, steering arms, springs, trackrods, brake
connections, shackles, bolts, nuts, split pins,


engine, engine shield and case, clutch, gearbox,
magneto or coil, air filter, carburettor and all
working parts must be cleaned in order to admit
of proper examination. Dust covers, if used, must
be removed before presentation in order to admit
of an examination being made in full. All split
pins, etc., must be clearly exposed, also chassis
and engine numbers. Drivers' seats must be
securely fastened so that the driver can have
proper control over the vehicle. Spot lights,
musical horns, and whistles are strictly prohibited.
Each vehicle must have its tare and maximum
gross weight painted m white figures not less than
2) inches in height upon a black ground in a
conspicious place on the right or offiside of the
vehicle.
The registered identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regula-
tions 7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the
Regulations, No. 35 of 1958, and be in such a
position as to render each letter or figure readily
distinguishable. The attention of owners of motor
omnibuses and goods vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (1) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed except
with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of hiring cars and
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations,
motor omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
No. 6 of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No. 70 of 1946 which require that printed copies
of the tariffs of maximum fares be displayed in
such vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

ANNOUNCEMENT

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

Cocoa Industry Improvement Scheme

Distribution of Rooted Cuttings of Selected Strains
of Grenada Cocoa for Planting in 1964


P ERSONS desirous of obtaining planting material
from the Cocoa Stations for planting in 1964,
should apply on the firms provided for that
purpose, entitled : 'Application Form for plants
Propagated for Distribution by the Department of
Agriculture."
(2) Application forms should be forwarded in
Duplicate to the Cocoa Agronomist, Mt. Horne
Cocoa Station, St. Andrew's, to reich him net
later than 31st August, 1963.
(3) Application received after the 31st August,
1963, will neither be acknowledged nor considered.
(4) Application forms are available at the
Department of Agriculture, all Agricultural and
Cocoa Stations, and District Revenue Offices.
Application forms can also be obtained from all
members of the extension staff of the Department
of Agriculture.
(5) Rooted Cocoa Cuttings are delivered at a
cost of 5c. per plant to the applicant at a point, as
near as possible to the site at which they are to be
planted, and accessible at the time to the motor
vehicle conveying the plants.
(6) The conditions under which planting
material will be issued are as follows:-
(i) The area selected by an applicant will be
inspected by an authorised officer as soon
as possible after the receipt of the applica-
tion, for the purp' se of determining the
suitability of the site in regards to altitude,
soil type, wind protection and other
ecological and environmental conditions.
The applicant will then be notified whether
or not the area is approved for planting.
(ii) If for stated reasons the area is declared to
be unsuitable for planting cocoa clones, no
allocation of plants will be made to the
applicant.
(iii) If the area is declared suitable, an author-
ised officer will inform the applicant what
minimum action is required of him by the
Department of Agriculture, in regard to
provision of ground shade, windbreaks, soil
conservation measure, soil propagation etc
The Agricultural Department will render all
assistance, guidance and advice in this
connection.
(iv) The minimum area for which plants will be
issued will be that which will contain fifty
(50) rooted cuttings planted at a spacing of
12ft. x 12ft. in a block.
The area to be planted will be re-inspected
by an authorized officer immediately before
the proposed date of delivery o* the plants,
for the purpose of ascertaining whether all


conditions have been satisfactorily fulfilled,
and whether the area is in a suitable state
of preparation for planting.
(v) Authorised officers of the Department of
Agricultur", will make periodic inspections
of the replanted areas, as often as may be
considered necessary, for the purpose of
observing field conditions, the development
of the young plants and advising the grower
on the care and management of the young
plants.
(7) Applicants are advised to take advantage of
the experience already gained in replanting methods
at the Cocoa Stations and other plots, wi'ere
replanting with rooted cocoa cuttings have already
been undertaken.
Applicants are accordingly invited to visit the:
Cocoa Stations and to mike the fullest possible
use of all information that is available,

Please note that:-
A small token charge will be imposed for citrus,
mnngo, avocado and such economic plants to be
delivered in 1964. This charge bears no relation
to the actual cost of production and will be
imposed with a view to stimulate farmers to take
more care of these plants than in the past, thus
exploiting their full potential.

VACANCY FOR SUPERINTENDENT, GOVERNMENT
PRINTING OFFICE ST. LUCIA


PPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to
the post of Superintendent, Government
Printing Office, St. Lucia, which is expected to
become vacant in October, 1963. Applicants should
have experience in Printing Administration and/or
training in a recognized Printing School.
2. The salary of the post is in the scale $3,876x
180- $4,596 per annum. The actual point of entry
in the scale will be dependent on the qualification
and experience of the candidate selected. The
appointment is pensionable, and is subject to two
years probation in the first instance.
3. The Officer will be responsible for the Admin-
istration and general control of the Government
Printing Office. Quarters are not provided. Other
conditions of service including leave of absence,
passages, medical attention etc., will be in accord-
ance with normal Government practice in St. Lucia.
Applications, on the prescribed form, should be
addressed to the Chief Secretary, Government
Office, Castries, St. Lucia, to reach him not later
than 30th June, 1963. Application forms and
further particulars may be obtained from the Sec-
retary to Government, Administrator's Office, St.
George's, Grenada.

sale by public auction on Friday, 26th July, 1963, at 1.30
o'clock in the afternoon, at the Revenue Office, Sauteurs,
for recovery of the taxes due thereon for the year 1962 and
previous years.
