APPOINTMENT
No. 75.
R. J. A. P. COMPTON, Magistrate, Western
District, has been appointed, temporarily, as
Additional Magistrate, Eastern District, under the
provisions of section 9 (i) (b) of the Magistrate's
Ordinance 1936 (No. 21 of 1936).

In the matter of a Declaration by the
Administrator in Council that certain lands
situate in the Parish. of St. lohn in the
Territory of Greiada are to be acquired
for a public purpose. ..
DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND
(First Publication)

W HEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the
La: d Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No., 3 of
1945) that if the Administrator in Council considers
that any portion of land should be acquired for a
public purpose he may cause a declaration to that
effect to be made.
AND W IHEEAS it is considered by the Admii-
istrator in Council that the lands mentioned are
described in the Schedule hereto should be acquired
for a public purpose, to wit, for the construction of
a public road.
NOW THEREFORE, it is hereby declared by
His Honour the Administrator, acting after
consultation with the Executive Council of the
Colony of Grenada, that upon the second publica-
tion of this declaration in the Gazette, the lands
S mentioned and described in the Schedule hereto
S hall be acquired for the above mentioned purpose

and shall vest absolutely in the Crown.
AND IT IS HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED
AND NOTIFIED that the land referred to at
Brothers Estate in the Parish of St. John is 1'rb od
1.6 poles in area.
SCHEDULE
All that portion of land situate at Brothers
Estate in the Parish o! St. John in the territory of
Grenada being part of the said Brothers Estate
and measuring 1 rodd 1.6 poles in area, bounded
on the North by a ravine and by the residue. df
Brothers Estate, on the East by the public road to
Belvedere and on the South and West by the
residue of Brothers Estate and by a wire fence.

LAND ACQUISITION ORDINANCE, 1945

IT is hereby notified for general information that,
in the pursuance of the powers vested in him
under the land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, the
Administrator in Council had been, pleased to
appoint Mr. JAMES S RIMO s EOSS to ba the Autho-
rised Officer for the purpose of the acquisition of
the followiing lot of land :-
(1) All that portion of land situated at Brothers
Estate in the parish of St. John in the
territory cf Grenada:being part of the said
Brothers Estate and measuring 1 rood,
1.6 poles in area, bounded on the, North
by a ravine and by the residue of Brothers
Estate, on the East by the Public Road
to Belvedere and on the South and West
by the residue of Brothers Estate and by
a wire fence.

Regulation 22 of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Regulations, 1938

OWNERS of public service vehicles (including
motor omnibuses and hiring cars), goods
vehicles and trailers, are hereby notified that the
half-yearly inspection of these vehicles will
commence as follows:-

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then approach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view
to effecting any alterations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor
Vehicles and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and
of the Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly
clean condition, and must have been recently
overhauled. The body and wings, axle, chassis,
frame, steering arms, springs, trackrods, brake
connections, shackles, bolts, nuts, split pins,
engine, engine shield and case, clutch, gearbox,
magneto or coil, air filter, carburettor and all


working parts must be cleaned in order to admit
if proper examination. Dust covers, if used, must
e removed before presentation in order to admit
if an examination being made in full. All split
ins, etc., must be clearly exposed, also chassis
ind engine numbers. Drivers' seats must be
ecurely fastened so that the driver can have
proper control over the vehicle. Spot lights,
musical horns, and whistles are strictly prohibited.
Each vehicle must have its tare and maximum
gross weight painted in white figures not less than
2l inches in height upon a black ground in a
conspicious place on the right or offiside of the
vehicle.
The registered identification marks [on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regula-
tions 7, 8 land 9 and the Second Schedule to the
Regulations, No. 35 of 1958, and be in such a
position as to render each letter or figure readily
distinguishable. The attention of owners of motor
omnibuses and goods vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (1) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed except
with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of hiring cars and
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations,
motor omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
No. 6 of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulatidns,
No. 70 of 1946 which require that printed copies
of the tariffs of maximum fares be displayed in
such vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

APPLICATIONS are invited to fill the vacancy
existing for Announcer/Operator, Windward
Islands Broadcasting Service, Grenada.
Candidates should possess the minimum qualifi-
cation for entry into the Civil Service. A sound
knowledge of music and of Current Affairs is
essential.
The person engaged will be required to carry out
Announcer's duties, and to control programme
outputs from the Studios. The person will be
expected to think quickly, and deal effectively with
any emergencies that may arise, and to develop
some aptitude fcr programme compilation under
the supervision of the Programme Directcr or his
Assistants.
The salary of the office is in the scale $2,052 x
96 -- $2,148/$2,292 x 144-$2,724.
