assented to by His Honour the Administrator
is published witi this issue of the Gazette:-
No. 38 of 1962.-An Ordinance to legalise the
expenditure of certain sums of money
appropriated from the General Revenue for
the service of the Colony for the period
from the first day of January to the thirty-
first day of July, one thousand nine hundred
and sixty-one in addition to the sums already
sauctionrd under the Appropriation Ordi-
nance, 1961.
Copies of this Ordinance may be seen at the
Government Office, the Public Library, the Treas-
ury, District Revenue Offices, Post Offices and
Police Stations.

VACANT POST OF ASSISTANT INSPECTOR
OF SCHOOLS, GRENADA

APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to
the vacant post of Assistant Inspector of
Schools, Grenada, particulars of which are as
follows:-
Appointment: The post is pensionable and
the officer will be subject to Colonial Regulations
and Local General Orders. The appointment will
be subject to medical fitness.
Salary: The salary is in the scale $3,348 x
144 -$3,924. A transport allowance at the rate
of $960 per annum is also paid.
Qualifications: The applicant should possess
good professional qualifications in Education, pre-
ferably at both Teacher Training College and Uni-
versity levels and considerable teaching experience.
A University degree would be an advantage.
Duties: The officer will perform duties in
connection with the general supervision and in-
spection cf the elementary schools, the in-service
training of teachers and the conduct of certain
examinations. He will also carry out such other
duties as may be assigned to him by the Education
Officer or the Inspector of Schools from time to
time.
Applications giving full particulars of qualF'
fications and experience accompanied by three
testimonials should reach the Secretary to Govern-
ment, St. George's, Grenada, not later than 15th
February, 1963.

POST OF GOVERNMENT
ELECTRICITY INSPECTOR-

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably quali-
fled persons to fill a vacancy in the post of
Government Electricity Inspector either by con-
tract or on a permanent basis.
Qualifications. Candidates should be qualified
electricians with at least 5 years experience and
have a thorough knowledge ol wiring systems and
of the rules and regulations governing electrical
installations (I. E. E. and B. S. S.).
Duties. The duties of the Inspector are as
follows:-
(a) regular periodical inspection and testing of
all electrical installations in all Government
buildings and public places of entertain-
ment;
(b) inspection and testing of all new electrical
installations, additions, alterations, and
extensions before energy is supplied;
(c) inspection and listing cf the Electricity
Company's lines and works and the supply
of energy by them;
(d) periodical inspection and testing of all old
installations;
(e) such other duties not inconsistent with the
duties of an electrical inspector.
Salary. The salary of the post is in the scale
$3,876 x 180- $4,956. The actual point of entry
into the scale will depend upon the qualifications
and experience of the candidate selected.
A travelling allowance at the rate of $960 per
annum is also payable.
Leave. Vacation leave is governed by local
General Orders.

NOTICE

LOSS OF SCHOONER "LADY KELVIN "

T is hereby notified for general information that
under the provisions of the Wrecks Ordinance,
Section 5 of Cap, 249 of the Laws of Grenada, an
]inquiry was held at the Magistrate's Court, St.
George's on Friday, 28th December, 1962, into the
crcJumstainces surrounding the disappearance of the
schooner, Lady Kelvin".
The Enquiry revealed that the schooner Lady
Kelvin must be presumed Idst with ail on board
by marine hazard.

Vacancy For Engineering Assistant (Mechanical)
Public Works Department, Grenada

PPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
Engineering Assistant (Mechanical), Grenada.
The salary of the post is in the scale $3,876 x $180-
$4,956 (PR Group).
A transport allowance is also payable in accord-
ance with local regulations.
The appointment is subject to medical fitness.
Candidates must have passed or be exempt from
the final examine ion of the Institute cf Mechanical
Engineers or its equivalent and have at least two
(2) ye-'rs experience in maintenance of heavy
equipment.
The duties of the post are to supervise the
maintenance of all vehicles/mechanical units and
equipment of the Government Departments; to
t, sr new machines and equipment and to carry
out such other duties as the Director of Public
Works may from time to time direct.
Applications should be addressed to the Secretary,
Public servicee Commission, Administrator's Office,
St. George's, Grenada, to reach him not later than
15th February, 1963.


DEPARTMENTAL NOTICES


INCOME TAX NOTICE


THE Income Tax Ordinance states:-
Every person chargeable with tax shall,
on or before the prescribed date in every year,
deliver to the Commissioner a true and correct
return of the whole of his income from every
source whatsoever for the year immediately
preceding the year of assessment, and shall, if
absent from the Colony, give the name and
address of an agent in the Colony."
2. Notices of Return have been sent out by the
Inland Revenue Department, but it is the duty of
taxpayers to ensure that they get such a form and
make a return as required by law. (Forms are
obtainable from the District Revenue Officers).
3. Failure to submit such a Return within the
prescribed time renders the taxpayer liable to a
penalty not exceeding 100% of the tax payable.

The Income Tax Ordinance No. 32 of 1956
Provides that it shall be the duty of every
employer to send in.such a return. Failure to do
so within the prescribed p-riod carries a penalty
not exceeding $750.00.

1961 and 1962 and are now at the Central
Police Station, St. George's, where owners are

Change of Shop Closing Hours

ON 18th December, 1962, the Execuive Council
approved the following Resolution of the
St. Andrew's District Board made under Authority
of Secti, n 9 of the Shops (Hours) Ordinance, 1938
(No. 4 of 1938) and passed by the Board on 8th
May, 1962:-
Be it resolved that the closing hours of all
dry goods shops in the town of Grenville in
the parish of St. Andrew's be 5 o'clock in the-
evening on Saturdays and 11 o'clock in the
morning on Thursdays".

2. Declaration of Pioneer Industry. The manufacture of ladies hats is hereby declared to be
a pioneer industry for the purposes of the Aid to Pioneer Industries Ordinance, 1952 and such manufac-
tured product is hereby declared to be a pioneer product for the said purposes.

PRINCIPAL CHANGES DURING MONTH

Food: There was an increase in the retail price of red rose tea which resulted in an
increase of 0.3 point above the figure for October, 1932. The group index figure is now 121.7
Clothing : There was an increase in the retail price of brassieres which resulted in an increase
of 0.6 point above the figure for October, 1962. The group index figure now stands at 129.5.
Fuel and Cleaning : During the period under review, there were no changes in the average level
of prices of the items in this group. Like October, 1962 the group index figure remained unchanged at
122.8.
Drink and Tobacco: There were no changes in the retail prices of the items in this group.
Like October, 1962, the group index figure of 106.8. remained unchanged.
Miscellaneous Goods: There were no changes in the average level of prices of the items in
this group during the month. The group index figure of 120.8 therefore remained unchanged.
