and arriving at St. George's about 1 p.m. then
leave again for Carriacou at about 4 p.m. arriving
Carriacou about 8.30 p.m.

ORDINANCE, 1938

Inspection of Motor Vehicles for the half-year
ending 30th June, 1963

Regulation 22 of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Regulations, 1938

OWNERS of public service vehicles (including
motor omnibuses and hiring cars) goods
vehicles and trailers, are hereby notified that the
half-yearly inspection of these vehicles will com-
mence as follows:-
St. George's Fire Station
From 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
Wednesday 5th December, 1962.
Wednesday 12th December, 1962.

Grenville Police Station
From 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then al:proach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view
to effecting any alternations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must he presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, spring, trackrods, brake connections, shackles,
bolts, nuts, split pins, engine, engine shield and
case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil, air filter,
carbur-ttor and all working parts must be cleaned
in order to admit of proper examination. Dust
covers, if used, must be removed before presentation
in order to admit of an examination being made in
full. All split pins etc., must be clearly exposed,
also chassis and engine numbers. Drivers' seats


must be securely fastened so that the driver
can have proper control over the vehicle. Spot
lights, musical horns, and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures not
less than 2, inches in height upon a black ground
in a conspicuous place on the right or offside of
the vehicle.
The Registered Identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provi ions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions, No. 85 of 1958, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily dis-
tinguishable. The attention of owners of motor
omnibuses and goods vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (1) (a) regarding the position of
from lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed
except with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of hiring cars and
motor omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traflic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No. 70 of 1946, which require that printing copies
of the tariffs of maximum fares be displayed in
such vehicles, These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
to have defect must not be used on the roads until
they have been issued with a certificate, certifying
that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

POSTS OF TECHNICAL ASSISTANTS-
W. I. B. S.

Appointment. Applications are invited from
suitably qualified persons to fill vacancies in the
non-pensionable posts of Technical Assistants,
Windward Islands Broadcasting Service.
Candidates should possess a Diploma in Radio
Technology from a recognised Technical School or
Correspondence School, or should have had not
less than two years experience as a radio tech-
nician engaged in the maintenance of radio trans-
mitters, or equivalent experience.
Salary. The salary of the post is in the scale
$2,052 x $96-$2,148/$2,292 x 144-$2,724. The
actual point of entry into the scale will depend upon
the qualifications and experience of the candidates
selected. The appointment is subject to one year's
probation.
Duties. The officer will be normally assigned
to duties at the main studio and transmitter station
in Grenada, or at one of the relay sub-stations in
St. Vincent, St Lucia or Dominica. he officers
will be liable for transfer within the Windward
Islands.
Leave. Vacation leave will be at the rate of 24
days' annually, accumulable to a maximum of 48
days'.
Applications should be addressed to the Secre-
tary to Government, Grenada, and should reach
him not later than 15th January, 1963.

COST OF LIVING FIGURES FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, 1962


The revised cost of living figure for all items for the month of October, 1962 is 121.28 a rise
of 21.28 points over the base figure for June, 1957, taken as 100.
The following table shows the cost-of-living index figure at the end of each month up to June,
1957 as compared with the base year August, 1939 taken as 100; as well as the figures in the new
series with the base figure at June, 1957, taken as 100:-

PRINCIPAL CHANGES DURING MONTH
Food : There was an increase in the retail price of dried and salted fish which resulted in an
increase of 0.1 point above the figure for September, 1952. The group index figure now stands at 121.4.
Clothing : There were no changes in the retail prices of the items in this group. The group
index figure of 128.9 therefore remained unchanged.
Fuel and Cleaning : During the period under review, there were no changes in the average level
of prices of the items in this group. The group index figure remained unchanged at 122.8.
Drink and Tobacco: There were no changes in the retail prices of the items in this group.
Like September, 1962, the group index figure remained at 106.8.
Miscellaneous Goods: There were no changes in the retail prices of the items in this group.
Like September, 1962, the group index figure of 120.8 remained unchanged.
