Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay in-
spection fees from now onwards at their respective
District Revenue Oftices and then approach the
Inspector cf Motor Vehicles at the Traffic Branch,
New Fire Station, in advance with a view to
effecting any alterations that may be necessary to
comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, brakercds brake connection, shackles,
bolts, nuts, split pins engine, engine shield, and case,


clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil, air filter, cr-
berettor and all working parts must be cleaned
in order to admit of prop r examination. Dust
covers, if used, must be removed before presentation
in order to admit of an examination being made in
full. All split pins, etc., must be clearly exposed,
also chassis and engin numbers. Drivers' seats
must be securely fastened so that the driver can
have proper control over the vehicle. Spot lights,
musical horns and whistles are strictly prohibited.
Etch vehicle must have its tare an i maximum
gross weight painted in white figures not less than
2- inches in height upon a black ground in a con-
spicious place on the right or offside of the vehicle,
The registered identification marks on all vehicles
must conform to provisions of Hegulations 7, 8 and
9 and the Second Schedule to the Hegulations, No.
35 of 1958, and be in such a condition as to render
each letter or figure readily distinguishable. The
attention of owners of motor omnibuses and goods
vehicles is specially directed to Regulation 23 (1)
(a) regarding the position of front lamps. Spot
lights will not be allowed except with the written
approval of the Licensing Authority.
The attention of the owners of hiring cars and
motor omnibuses is directed to to the motor Vehicles
and Road Tratlic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. ') Regulations, No.
70 of 1946, which require that printed copies of the
tariffs of maximum fares be displayed in such
vehicles. These are now available and may be
purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
to have defects must not be used on the roads until
they have been issued with a certificate, certifying
that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

ADVERTISEMENT


PPLICATIONS are invited for the post of 4-H
Club organiser (b'emale) in the Department
of Agriculture.
2. The post is a pensionable one and carries a
salary scale of $-,220x144-$3,228 per annum. A
Transport Allowance of $1,200 p.a. shall bo-apayable
for the maintenance of a motor car which is needed
for the efficient performance of the duties attached
to the post.
3. Duties of the post:-
To inspect and give advice to 4-H girls in their
projects, attend 4-H Meetings, give lectures, con-
duct demonstrations as a means of bringing and
consolidating 4-H in the homes of members; assist
in the training of Club Leaders and Project Leaders.
To act as assistant to the 4-H Organiser in the
discharge of his duties and any other duties which
may from time to time be assigned to the officer
by the Superintendent of Agriculture.
4. Qualifications-Applicants should,
(a) Possess the School Certificate or its
equivalent
(b) receive training in Home Economics for
at least two years at a recognized
School or College.
(c) Be trained in 4-H Club Work.
5. Applications together with two testimonials
must reach the Secretary of the Public Service
Commission not later than the 15th June, 1962.

AFTER 31st July, 1962, no carcase of any poultry
or any portion of such carcase shall be imported
into the Colony unless a permit is obtained from
the Superintendent of Agriculture. This permit
demands that a Veterinaiy Health Certificate be
issued from the exporting country.

ANNOUNCEMENT



DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

Cocoa Industry Improvement Scheme

Distribution of Rooted Cuttings of Selected Strains
of Grenada Cocoa for Planting in 1963

DERSONS desirous of obtaining Planting Mlaterial
from the Cocoa Stations for planting in 1963,
should apply on the forms provided for, that
purple, entitled: Application Form for Plants
Propagated for Distribution by the Department of
Agriculture."
(2) Apolication forms should be forwarded in
Duplicate to the Cocoa Agronomist, Mt. Home
Cocoa Station, St. Andrew's, to reach him net
later than 31st August, 1962.
(s) Applications received after the 31st August,
1962, will neither be acknowledged nor considered.
(4! Application forms are available at the
Department of Agriculture, all Agricultural an
Cocoa Stations, and District Revenue Offices.
Application forms can also be obtained from all
members of the extension staff of the Department
of Agriculture.
(5) Rotted Cocoa Cuttings are delivered at a
cost of 5c. per plant to the applicant at a point, as
near as possible to the site at which they are to be
planted, and accessible at the time to the motor
vehicle conve. ing the plants.
(6) The conditions under which Planting Mate-
rial will be issued are as follows:--
(i) The area selected by an applicant will be
inspected by an authorised officer, as soon
as possible after the receipt of the applica-
tion, for the purpose of determining the
suitability of the site in regards to altitude,
soil type, wind protection and other ecologi-
cal and environmental conditions. The
applicant will then be notified whether or
not the area is approved for planting.
(ii) If for stated reasons the area is declared to
ue unsuitable for planting cocoa clones, no
allocation of plants will be made to the
applicant.
(iii) If the area is declared suitable, an author-
ised officer will inform the applicant what
minimum action is required of him by the
Department of Agriculture, in regard to
provision of ground shade, windbreaks, soil
conservation measures, soil preparation etc.
The Agricultural Department will render all
assistance, guidance and advice in this
connection.
(iv) The minimum area for which plants will be
issued will be that which will contain fifty
(50) rooted cuttings planted at a spacing of
12ft. x 12ft. in a block.
The area to be planted will be re-inspected
by an authorised otlicer immediately before
the proposed date of delivery of the plants,
for the purpose of ascertaining whether all
conditions have been satisfactorily fulfilled,
and whether the area is in a suitable state
of preparation for planting.


(vi) Authorised officers of the Department of
Agiculture will make periodic inspections
of the replanted areas, as often as may be
consider I necessary, for the purpose of
observing field conditions, the development
of the young plants and advising the grower
on the care and management of the young
plants.
(vii) Applicants are advised to take advantage of
the experience already gained in replanting
methods at the Cocoa Stations and other
plots, where replanting with rooted cocoa
cuttings have already been undertaken.
Applicants are accordingly invited to visit
the Cocoa Stations and to make the fullest
possible use of all information that is
available.
