No. 43.
THE Right Honourable the Secretary of State
for the Colonies has notified the Administrator
that the Queen will not be advised to exercise Her
1 ajesty's powers of disallowance with respect to
the following Ordinance of the Grenada Legisla-
ture:-
No. 18 of 1961.-An Ordinance further to
amend the .-hops (Hours) Ordinance, 1938.
17th March, 1962.

In the Matter Of The Land Acquisition
Ordinance, 1145 (No. 3 of 1945)

And
In the matter of a Declaration by the
Administrator in Council that certain
lands situate in the parish of St. Mark in
the Territory of Grenada are to be acquir-
ed for a public, purpose.

DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND
(Second Publication)
SHEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the land
Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No. 3 of 1945)
that if the Administrator in Council considers that
any land should be acquired for a public purpose
he may cause a declaration to that effect to be made.
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the
Administrator in Council that the land mentioned
and described in the Schedule hereto should be
acquired for a public purpose, to wit, for a Recrea-
tion Ground, and to facilitate persons in the collec-
tion of gravel for sale.
NOW THEREFORE, it is hereby declared by
His Honour the Administrator, acting after con-


sultation with the Executive Council of the Colony
of Grenada, that upon the second publication
of this declaration in the Gazette, the
land mentioned and described in the Schedule
hereto shall be acquired for the abovementioned
purposes and shall vest absolutely in the Crown.
AND IT IS HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED
AND NOTIFIED that the land referred to at
Victoria in the parish of St. Mark's is approxi-
mately half an acre.
SCHEDULE
All that portion of land part of Bon Aire Estate
in the parish of St. Mark in the Territory of
Grenada owned by Charlie A. Phillips and others
being in area approximately half an acre more or
less, bounded on the North by the Public Latrine,
on the South by the St. Mark's river, on the East
by the Public Main Road from Gouyave to Sauteurs
and on the West by the sea.

Notification of Preliminary Survey (under
Section 4 of the Ordinance)

WTHEREAS it is enacted by Section 4 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No. 3
of 1945) that if it appears to the Administrator in
Council that any land is likely to be required for
any purpose which, in the opinion of the Adminis-
trator in Council is a public purpose and it is
necessary to make a preliminary survey of other
investigations to that effect to be published in the
Gazette :

NOTICE


The Foreign


Compensation (Roumania)
Order, 1961


THE above Order in Council, obtainable from
Her Majesty s S.tationery Office ('.1., 1961,
No. 1832, price 6d.), provides for the distribution of
compensation payable by the Roumanian Govern-
ment under the Anglo-Roumanian Agreement of the
10th of November, 1960 (Cmnd. 1232).
The Agreement provided for the payment of Her
Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom
by the Roumaniam Government of the sum of
1,250,000 in full and final settlement of the
following :
(a) All obligations of the Roumanian Government
to the United Kingdom and British nationals
in respect of claims, other than those referred
to in the Schedule to the Agreement, arising
oit of or presented under Article 24 of the
Treaty of Peace wi h Roumania.
(b) All claims, other than those referred to in the
said Schedule, in respect of British property
affected prior to the 10th of November,
1960, by any measure cf nationalisation,
expropriation, State administration liquid-
atiin, or other similar measure taken by the
Roumanian Government.
The claims referred to in the Schedule are those
of the British nationals there named and are in
respect of property, rights and interests, including
debts, connected with direct ownership of or parti-
cipation in oil companies in Houmani:i.
The compensation is payable by the Roumanian
Government in six annual instalments beginning on
the 31st January, 1962, and these will be dis-
tributed at suitable intervals.
The Order in Council empowers the Foreign
Compensation Commission, 1 Princes Gate, Londo.,
S. W. 7., to receive applications to participate in
the distribution of compensation, from individuals,
corporations, firms and associations and to de-
termine claims in accordance with the Order.
Prospective applicants should write to the Com-
mission as soon as possible.
Applications under the Order must reach the
Commission on or before the 1st October, 1962.

N accordance with the provisions of the Customs
Ordinance, 1960 (No. 35 of 1960) Notice is
hereby given that a sale of seized and overtime
goods will take place at the Queen's Warehouse on
the St. George's Pier at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday,
12th April, 1962.
A list of the goods to be sold may be seen at the
office of the Collector of Customs, St. George's or
at the Queen's Warehouse on the St. George's Pier.

Appeals Against Assessments Under The
Taxes Management Ordinance


IT is hereby notified for general information that
the Magistrate, Southern District will hold a
special session at the Magistrase'. Court, St.
George's, on Tuesday, 10th April. 1962, at 9.00
o'clock in the forenoon for the purpose of hearing
objections to, and appeals against the Assessment
made by the Tax Officer.
Any person desirous of making objections to, or
appealing against an assessment should give notice
in writing to the Magistrate not later than 30th
March, 1962 of his intention.

the defendant of the One part and the Grenada
Co-operative Bank Limited of the Other part and
recorded in Liber D 10 at page 637 whereunder
there is now due the principal sum of $48,200.00
with interest thereon at $7.00 per centum per
annum from the 30th day of June, 1961, and free
from all judgments against the defendant so far as
they are known.
The sale subject to the usual conditions, a
copy of which may be seen at this office and to the
Reduced RESERVED PRICE $125,967.47.

The index was revised in June, 1957, and is shown hereunder as a new series.

COST OF LIVING INDEX FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, 1962


The revised coit of living index figure for all items for the month of February, 1962 is 116.58
a rise of 16.58 points over the base figure for June, 1957, taken as 100.
The following table shows the cost-of-living index figures at the end of each month up to June,
1957 as compared with the base year August, 1939 taken as 100; as well as the figures in the new
series with the base figure at June, 1957, taken as 100:-

PRINCIPAL CHANGES DURING MONTH
Food : There were decreases in the retail prices of salted fish and salt beef which resulted in a
decrease of 0.5 point below the figure for January, 1962. The group index figure now stands at 113.2.
Clothing : There were decreases in the retail prices of men's felt hats, panties and spun rayon
and cotton print which outweighed increases in plain cotton, seersucker and white drill and resulted
in a!decrease of 0.9 point below the figure for January, 1962. The group index figure is now 130.7.
Fuel and Cleaning: During the period under review there was a decrease in the retail price of
matches which resulted in aPdecrease of 5 points below the figure for January, 1962. The group index
figure is therefore 119.5.
Drink and Tobacco: There were Ono changes in the prices of the items under this group during
the period under review. The group index figure of 110.7 therefore remained unchanged.
Miscellaneous Goods: There were decreases in the retail prices of teacups and saucers and
dinner and soup plates (ware) which outweighed an increase in the retail price of cutlasses and resulted
in a decrease of 12.4 points below the figure for January, 1962. The group index figure is now 120.8.
