Conditions of Service Attaching to the Post of
Nursing Superintendent, Dominica

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably qual-
ified persons for appointment to the post of
Nursing Superintendent, Domin.ca, particulars of
which are as follows:-
1. Appointment. The post is non-pensionable.
Appointment will be for a period of three years
in the first instance.
2. Duties. The duties of the post would in-
clude:-
(a) Directing and supervising the trained
Health Visitors;
(b) Supervising the activities of the District
Nurse/Midwives, as well as instructing
them in educating their patients in
health matters;
(c) Responsibility for health instruction in
schools 'and at adult community
centres.
The officer will be directly responsible to the
Senior Medical Officer and will be required to
perform any other duties assigned to her from
time to time by the Administrator through the
head of her Department.
3. Salary. Salary is in the scale $3228 x 144-
$3948. Candidate selected will receive salary at
an appropriate point in the scale depending on
qualifications and experience. Preference will be
given to candidates with S.R.N. and S.C.M.
4. Allowances. Travelling a n d subsistence
allowance are payable in accordance with approv-
ed travel on duty.
5. Quarters. Quarters a r e n o t provided.
Should Government quarters become available
rental would be charged at the rate of 10% of
salary or 5% of the assessed value of the quarters,
whichever is less.
6. Leave. Vacation leave on full salary will be
granted at the rate of one week in respect of each
completed period of 3 months service.
7. Passages. Free passages to Dominica will
be provided and free return passages to place of
recruitment on successful completion of period of
engagement.
8. Medical Attendance. Free medical attend-
ance and medicines are not provided.
9. General Information. Government officials
are liable to taxation imposed by local enactments.
Applications should be addressed to the Chief
Secretary, Administrator's Office, Dominica, and
should reach him not later than 15th February,
1962.

Recruiting for British Army in
The West Indies

T is hereby published for general information
that a Recruiting Team is expected to visit
Grenada later in the year for the purpose of
recruiting personnel for the British Army, under
the following conditions :-
(a) Recruits must be unmarried;
(b) fluent English is required ;
(c) those accepted will he enlisted as re-
cruits, and their passage to England
will be paid.
(d) Birth Certificates are required;
(e) advance action to obtain Passports
should be taken.
2. A further notice will be issued wh, n the
exact date for the visit of the Recruiting Team is
known.

IN pursuance of section 21 (2) of the above
Ordinance, I hereby give not ce that a copy of
the diagram and report of Norris R. Williams,
Assistant Surveyor, Public Works Department,
of a Surv3y made at the request of Mrs. Virginia
Japal on the 15th September and 27th November,
1961, showing the boundary line AB" between
lands of Mrs. Virginia Japal on the east and Mrs.
Florie Ferguson and Mr. Esau Benjamin on the
West, situate at Walker, St. Andrew's, has been
lodg d in the office of the Chief Registrar of the
Supreme Court of the Windward Islands and
Leeward Islands at Grenada.

The index was revised in June, 1957, and is shown hereunder as a new series.

COST OF LIVING INDEX FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY, 1962


The revised cost-of-living index figure for all items for the month of January, 1962, is 118.34
a rise of 18.34 points over the base figure for June, 1957, taken as 100.

1957 as compared with the base year August, 1939 taken as 100; as well as the figures in the new
series with the base figure at June, 1957, taken as 100:-

PRINCIPAL CHANGES DURING MONTH
Food: There were no change in the retail prices of the items under this group during the
period under review. The index figure of 113.7 therefore remained unchanged.
Clothing : There were increases in the retail prices of men's khaki longsleeved shirts, felt hats,
women's vests and zephyr (chambrai) which resulted in an increase of 2.1 points above the figure for
December, 1961. The group index figure now stands at 131.6.
Fuel and Cleaning: During the period under review there was an increase in the retail price of
matches which resulted in an increase of 5 points above the figure for December, 1961. The group
index figure is now 124.5.
Drink and Tobacco: Due to an increase in the retail price of Phoenix cigarettes which resulted
in an increase of 6.0 points above the figure for December, 1961. The group index figure rose to 110.7.
Miscellaneous Goods: There were increases in the retail prices of teacup and saucers and
busfare which resulted in an increase of 7.5 points above the figure for December, 1961. The group
index figure is now 133.2.
