DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND
(Second Publication)
AITHEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the
S land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No. 3 of
1915) that if the Administrator in Council con-
siders that any land should be acquired for a public
purpose he may cause a declaration to that effect
to be made.
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Adminis-
trator in Council that the land mentioned and
described in the Schedule hereto should Ibe acquired
for a public purpose, to wit, for a Fish Market.

Honour the Administrator, acting 'after, con sulta-
tion with the Executive Council of 'the Cilonr 'of
Grenada, that upon the second publrat.ion of this:
declaration in the Gazette, the land mentioned and
described in the Schedule hereto shall be acquired
for the above mentioned purpdis 'and shall vest
absolutely in the Crown.
AND IT Is HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED 'AND
NOTIFIED that the land referred to on the L'Anse,
Gouyave in the parish of St. John is'aljproximately
3,000 sq. ft.


SCHEDULE

All that portion of land on the L'Anse, Gouyave
in the parish of St. John in the territory of Grenada
owned by the heirs of Josiah Charles being in area
approximately 3,000 sqiiare feet inore or less, bourid-
ed on the North by the sea on the South by the main
road to Victoria on the east by lands of Lena
Remain and on the west by lands of Lena Romain
and Estate of Freddie Lewis.

Notification of Preliminary Survey (under
Section 4 of the Ordinance)


-WTHEREAS it is enacted by Section 4 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No. 3 of
1945) that if it appears to the Administrator in
Council that any land is likely to be required for
any purpose which, in the opinion of the Adminis-
trator in Council is a public purpose and it is
necessary to make a preliminary survey or other
investigation to that effect to be published in the
Gazette :
AND WHEREAS the Administrator in Council
considers that-
a portion of land on the L'Anse, Gouyave in
the parish of St. John in the Territory of
Grenada owned by the heirs of Josiah Charles
being in are approximately 3,000 square feet
more or less is likely to be required for a
public purpose to wit, for a Fish Market.
AND WHEREAS it is necessary to make a pre-
liminary survey and other investigations of the said
portion of land :
Now THEREFORE this is to require all persons
interested to allow D. K. Samuels, Land Settle-
ment Officer, who has been appointed Authoiised
Officer for the purpose (and Bis agents, assistants
and workmen) to do all the things auLtlh.. 'ied by
law.

1945



TI is hereby notified for general information that,
Sin the pursuance of the powers vested in him
under the L'ahd Acquisition Ordinance, 1945 the
Administrator in Council has been pleased to
appoint Mr. Donald Keith Samuels to be the
Auth6rised Officer for the purpose of the acquisition
of the following lot of land :-
'All 'that portion of land on the L'Anse,
Gouyave in the Parish of St. John in the
Territory of Grenada owned by the heirs of
Josiah Charles being in area approximately
3,000' squire fbet -more or less bounded on the
North by' the sea, on the South by the main
road to Victoria, on the East by lands of Lena
Remain and on the West by lands of Lena
Remain and Estate of Freddie Lewis.

NOTICE

The Department of Technical Co-operation


HER Majesty's Government has announced the
establishment of a new department of Tech-
nical Co-operation with Headquarters at Carlton
House Terrace, and the postal address is Depart-
ment of Technical Co-operation, Carlton House
Terrace, S.W.I. The Act establishing this Depart-
ment received the Royal Assent on 22nd June, and
opening day of the department was 24th July,
1961. The Minister in charge of this Department
with the title of Secretary fcr Technical Co-opera-
tion is the Right Honourable Dennis Vosper, T.D.,
M.P. The Director-General is Sir Andrew Cohen,
K.C.M.G., K.C.V.O., O.B.E.
2. This Department is established for the
purpose of co-ordinating, promoting and carrying
out arrangements for furnishing countries outside
the United Kingdom with technical assistance,
including in particular assistance in the fields of
economic development, administration and social
services. The new Department will work within
the broad lines of overseas policy as determined by
the Foreign Secretary, the Commonwealth Secre-
tary and the Colonial Secretary, and one important
aspect of the new Department's duties will be the
provision of expprl.s of all kinds. It will also pro-
vide certain facilities for education and training
in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, equipment
for schools and colleges and teaching hospitals and
so on.
3. The new Department will also take over
from the Colonial Office all work in connection
with technical assistance from official non-United
Kingdom sources, i.e. from other Commonwealth
Governments and from foreign Governments and
from international bodies such as the United
Nations and the U.N. Specialised Agencies. It

follows that where, in -pursuance of ,various
communications from .the.Colonial .Qffice, flplica-.
tions for non-United Kingdom technical assistance
("or copies of sudh applications or correspondence
about them) are now sent to the Colonial -Office,
they should in future be sent to :the .new
Department.
Furthermore, the Sscretary for Technical Co-
operation will in futurebe responsible for sending
any further guidance or instructions which may
be required from time to time on. these matters.

\A PPLICATIONS are invited for regular
Commissions in the West India Regiment.
All applications should be addressed to the, Federal
Defence Officer, Governor-General's Office. Port-of-
Spain, Trinidad, to be. received' by 31st August,
1961.
2. Applicants must he-British Subjects resident
in the Federation; -must be between the ages of 18
and 24 and the following particulars must be sub-
mitted with their applications:-
(i) Full name and address
(ii) Occupation
(iii) Age and.last birthday
(iv) Place and date of birth and nationality
(v) Educa ion (certificates must be forwarded)
(iv) If not born in the West Indies, length of
residence in the West Indies-giving
precise dates
(vii) Full particulars of any previous service
with H.M. Forces.
3. Pay: Basic pay ranges from $5.85 (1.4.4A)
a day on gazetting as a. Second Lieutenant to
$13.04 (2.14.4) a day as a Major after 13 years
service and up to $17.39 (3.12.51) a day as, a
Lieutenant-Colonel with intermediary increments
within ranks.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME



A PPLIGATON-S ..are .iLvited for the four
'L Agricultural Apprenticeships shortly to become
vacant in the Department of Agriculture.
2..The course of training will be for a period of
one, year, and will commence on the 1st October,
1961. Successful candidates will, be required to
reside at :
Mt. Moritz Agricultural Station-October to
: December, 1961.
Westerhall Agricultural Station-January to
March, 1962.
Mt, Horne and Boulogne Cocoa Stations-April
to June, 1962.
Arranements are,,boeig lIade for district or
estate field work in any part of Grenada or Carria-
cou during the period July-September.
3. Successful candidates willreceive an allowance
of one Dollar ($1.00) per working day during the
period.of the course, and will be required to make
their own arrangements for board and lodge,
although quarters may be provided where they are
available.
4. The Government accepts no responsibility for
providing employment to Apprentices on the
completion of their Course.
5. Applicant, who should be between the ages of
18 and 24 should state age, school or schools
attended with standard or certificate attained,
pist and present employment, and emoluments
earned at the present time, experience in agriculture
and the facilities which they expect will.be available
to them for practising agriculture after their period
of Apprenticeship.
6. Applications should be addressed to the Super-
intendent of Agriculture, Tanteen, St. George's, and
should reach that address not later than 10th
September, 1961. The envelope containing the
application should be marked Apprenticeship"
on the outside.
7. Testimonials which will not be returned,
should accompany the application.

Rates levied by the St. John's District Board, the proper-

Public Auction at the Revenue Office, Gouyave, on
Thursday the 31st of August, 1961, at 1.30 p.m. for the
recovery of rates due thereon for the year 1960 and

ANNOUNCEMENT

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

Cocoa Industry Improvement Scheme

Distribution of Rooted Cuttings of Selected Strains
of Grenada Cocoa for Planting in 1962

A charge of five cents (5c.) will be made
for each Cocoa Plant payable in advance


PERSONS desirous of obtaining rooted cocoa
cuttings from the Cocoa Stations for planting
in 1962, should apply on the forms provided for
that purpose, entitled: Application Form for
Rooted Cocoa Cuttings Piopagated for Distribution
by the Cocoa Industry Improvement Scheme of
Grenada."
2. Application forms should be fowarded in
dupli-ate to the Cocoa Agronomist, \,t. Horne
Cocoa Station, St. Andrew's on or before the 31st
August, 1961. Applications received after the
31st August will neither be acknowledged nor con-
sidered.
3. Application forms are available at the De-
partment of Agriculture, all Agricultural and Cocoa
Stations, District Revenue Offices, and from mem-
bers of the Extension Staff of the Department of
Agriculture.
4. Rooted Cocoa Cuttings will be transported
free of cost to the applicant at a point as near as
possible to the site at which they are to he planted,
and accessible at the time to the motor vehicle
conveying the plants. Applicants who possess
means of transport may be required to use them.
5. The conditions under which rooted cocoa
cuttings will be issued are as follows:-
(i) The area selected by an applicant will be in-
spected by an authorized officer, as soon as
possible after the receipt of the application,
for the purpose of determining the suita-
bility of the site in regard to altitude, soil
type, wind protection and other ecological
and enircmental conditions. The appli-
cant will then be notified whether or not
the area is approved for planting.
(ii) if for stated reasons the area is declared to
be unsuitable for planting cocoa clones, no
allocation of plants will be made to the
applicant.
(iii) if the area is declared suitable, an autholised
Officer will inform the applicant what mini-
nium action is required of him by the De-
partment of Agriculture in regard to pro-
vision of ground shade, windbreaks, soil
conservation measures, soil preparation etc.
The Agricultural Department will render
all assistance, guidance and advice in this
connection.
(iv) The minimum area fo- which plants will be
issued will be that which will contain fifty


training whether all conditions have been
satisfactorily fulfilled, and whether the area
is in a suitable state of preparation for
planting.
(v) Authorised officers of the Department of
Agriculture will make periodic inspections
of the replanted areas, as often as may be
considered necessary, for the purpose of
observing field conditions, the development
of the yourg plants and advising the grower
on the care and management of the young
plants.
(vi) Applicants are advised to take advant ge of
the experience already gained in replanting
methods at the Cocoa Stations and other
plots, where replanting with rooted cocoa
cuttings have already been undertaken.
Applicants are accordingly invited to visit the
Cocoa Stations and to make the fullest
possible use of all information that is
available.

the RESERVE PRICE of $14,000.00.
