Executive Council in Grenada at a meeting of the

2. Mr. DANIEL assumed the duties of Clerk
of Executive Council with effect from 30th May,
1961, and the office of the Clerk is now located in
the Chief Minister's Office instead of the Adminis-
trator's Office as heretofore.

In the matter of a Declaration by the
Administrator in Council that certain
lands situate in the paish of St. David's,
in the Colony of Grenada are to be acquir-
ed for a public purpose.

DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND
(Second Publication)
WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the
Land Acquisition ordinance 1945 (No. 3 of
1945) that if the Administrator in Council con-
siders that any land should be acquired for a public
purpose he may cause a declaration to that effect
to be made ;
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Adminis-
trator in Council that the land mentioned and
describedin the Schedule hereto should be acquired
for a public purpose, to wit, for erecting the Laura
Bridge ;
Now THEREFORE, it is hereby declared by His
Honour the Administrator, acting after consulta-
tion with the Executive Council of the Colony of
Grenada, that upon the second publication of this
declaration in the Gazette the land mentioned and
described in the Schedule hereto shall be acquired
for the abovementioned purpose and shall vest
absolutely in the Crown.
AND IT IS FURTHER DECLARED AND NOTIFIED
THAT the land referred to in the Parish of St.
David is by approximation 350 square feet.

SCHEDULE
All that portion of land in the Parish of St.
David in the Colony of Grenada occupied by
ROBERT ALEXANDER, said to belong to heirs of
Mary Charles, being in area approximately 350
square feet minre or less bounded on North by the
Government Road through Laura South by the
Government Road through Laura; West by the
Government Road through Laura, and East by
the lands of the heirs of LAURENCE FRANCIS.

Notification of Preliminary Survey (under
Section 4 of the Ordinance)


W HEEREAS it is enacted by Section 4 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945 (No. 3 of
1945) that if it appears to the Administrator in
Council that any land is likely to be required for
any purpose which, in the opinion of the Adminis-
trator in Council is a public purpose, and it is


necessary to make a preliminary survey or other
investigation of the land, he may cause a notifi-
cation to that effect to be published in the Gazette;
AND WHEREAS the Administrator in Council
considers that-
all that portion of land in the Parish of
St. David in the Colony of Grenada occupied
by ROBERT ALEXANDER, said to belong to
heirs of MARY CHARLES, being in area
approximately 350 sq. ft. more or less
bounded on the North by the government t
Road through Laura South by the Govern-
ment Road through Laura; West by the
Government Road through Laura, and East
by the lands of the heirs of LAURENCE
FRANCIS et al is likely to be required for a
public purpose, to wit, for erecting the
Laura Bridge.
Now THEREFORE that is to require all persons
interested to allow L. K. Samuels, of the Depart-
ment of Forestry and Lands, who has been
appointed Authorised Otficer for the purpose (and
his agents, assistants and workmen) to do all the
things authorised by the law.

1945


IT is hereby notified for general information that
in the pursuance of the powers vested in him
under the Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945 (No.
3 of 1945), the Administrator in Council has been
pleased to appoint D. K. Samuels of the Department
of Forestry and Lands to be the Authorised Officer
for the purpose of the acquisition of the following
lot of land:-
All that portion of land in the Parish of St.
David in the Colony of Grenada occupied by
Robeit Alexander, said to belong to heirs of
Mary Charles, being in area approximately
350 sq. ft. more or less bounded on the North
by the Government Road through Laura South
by the Government Road through Laura; West
by the Government Road through Laura, and
East by the lands of the heirs of Laurence
Francis et al.

motor omnibuses and hiring cars) goods
vehicles and trailers, are hereby notified that the
half-yearly inspection of these vehicles will com-
mence as follows:-

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then approach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view
to effecting any alterations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles
and bLoad Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulatiucs made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and muse cave been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, Schassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrods, brake connections, shackles,
bolts, nuts, split pins, engine, engine shield and
case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil, air Qlter,


i carburettor and all working parts must be cleaned
in order to admit of proper examination. Dust
covers, if used, must he removed before present-
Sation in order to admit of an examination being
made in full. All split pins, etc., must be clearly
exposed, alho chassis and engine numbers. Drivers'
seats must be securely fastened so that the driver
c-n have proper control over the vehicle. Spot
lights, musical horns and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures not
less than 2i inches in height upon a black ground
in a conspicious place on the right or offside of
the vehicle.
The registered identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions, No. 35 of 1958, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily dis-
tinguishable. The attention of owners of motor
omnibuses and goods vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (1) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Spit lights will not be allowed
ex!,ept with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of hiring cars and
motor omnibuses is directed to the motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944. as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No. 70 of 1946, which require that printed copies
of the tariffs of maximum fares he displayed in
such vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by tne Inspector
to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

NOTICE

Commonwealth Scholarship and
Fellowship Plan

T HE Government of the Federation of Malaya
are offering two-year scholarships in 1962 for
Commonwealth students to pursue post-graduate
studies or to undertake research in Malaya.
Applicants must be citizens of a Commonwealth
country and normally resident in any part of the
Commonwealth other than Malaya. The scholar-
ships are open to both men and women who will
not have reached their 35th birthday by 1st
Ja. uary, 1962, and who are, or by the end of 1961
will be graduates of a university or college, or
holders of an equivalent qualification.
The scholarship includes:
(a) transportation to Malaya and return,
normally by tourist air passage, as
arranged by the Malayan Committee ;
(b) approved tuition, laboratory and examina-
tion fees;
(c) a personal maintenance allowance, payable
monthly,. at the rate of M$5,400/- per
annum (630 sterling);
(d) a grant for books or equipment of M$150/-
per annum;

(e) a grant of up to M$200/- per annum for
approved travel within Malaya ;
(f) an additional marriage allowance at the
rate of M$1,200/- per annum for a male
married scholar accompanied by his wife,
plus the cost of the wife's fare to Malaya
and return. This allowance will not be
payable during the first year of the tenure
of the scholarship unless the scholar was
married at the time of his application for
an award, and will not be payable if the
wife herself holds a scholarship or is in
paid employment while in Malaya.
Applications on the prescribed form which are
obtainable at the Administrator's Office should be
addressed to the Secretary to Government to reach
him not later than 31st July, 1961.

1. Town Clerk to the Municipal Borough of
St. George's (population 7,800) with a salary of
$3,600.00 x $240-$4,800.00 per annum, and a
Travelling Allowance of $480.00 per annum.
2. Chief Clerk and Accountant, with a salary
of $2,400.00 x $144-$2,880 per annum.
The Town Clerk must be a fit person not
being a member of the Council, and he shall hold
office during good behaviour.
He shall be the Chief Administrative an Executive
Officer of the Corporation and shall be primarily
responsible for the efficient conduct of the Corpor-
ation's business.
There is a Provident Fund to which employees
contribute 5% of their salaries, the Corporation
contributing a like sum. A pension plan may be
introduced later.
