Administrator in Council that certain
lands situate in the parish of St. David's,
in the Colony of Grenada are to be acquir-
ed for a public purpose.

DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND
(First Publication)
W HEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of thd
Land Acquisition Ordinancc, 1945 (No. 3 of
1945) that if the Administrator in Council con-
siders that any land should be acquired for a public
purpose he may cause a declaration to that effect
to be made ;
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Adminis-
trator in Council that the land mentioned and
describediin the Schedule hereto should be acquired
for a public purpose, to wit, for erecting the Laura
Bridge ;
Now THEREFORE, it is hereby declared by His
Honour the Administrator, acting after consulta-
tion with the Executive Council of the Colony of
,Grenada, that upon the second publication of this
declaration in che Gazette the land mentioned and
described in the Schedule hereto shall he acquired
for the abovementioned purpose and shall vest
absolutely in the Crown.
AND IT IS FURTHER DECLARED AND NOTIFIED
THAT the land referred to in the Parish of St.
David is by approximation 3.0 square feet.

SCHEDULE
All that portion of land in the Parish of St.
David in the Colony of Grenada occupied by
ROBFRT ALEXANDER, said to belong to heirs of
Mary Charles, being in area approximately 350
square feet m ire or less bounded on North by the

Notification of Preliminary Survey" (under
Section 4 of the Ordinance)

WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 4 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945 (No. 3 ol
19,45) that if it appears to the Administrator in
Council that any land is likely to be required for
any purpose which, iu the opinion of the Adminis-
trator in Council is a public purpose, and it is
necessary to make a preliminary survey or other


investigation of the land, he may cause a notifi-
cation to that effect to be published in the Gazette;
AND WHEREAS the Administrator in Council
considers that-
all that portion of land in the Parish of
St. David in the Colony of Grenada occupied
by ROBERT ALEXANDER, said to belong to
heirs of MAPY CHARLES, being in area
approximately 350 sq. ft. more or less
hounded on the North by the governmentt
Road through Laura, South by the Govern-
ment Road through Laura; West by the
Government Road through Laura, and East
by the lands of the heirs of LAURENCE
FRANCIS et al is likely to be required for a
public purpose, to wit, for erecting the
Laura Bridge.
NOW THEREFORE that is to require all persons
interested to allow IU. K. Samuels, cf the Depart-
ment of Forestry and Lands, who has been
appointed Authorised Oificer for the purpose (and
Ins agents, assistants and workmen) to do all the
Things authorised by the law.

half-yearly inspection of these vehicles will coni-

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then approach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view
toeffecting any alterationsthat may..be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor. Vehicles
and bOad Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulatirs made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must cave been recently overhauled.
The body andwings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrods, brake connections, shackles,
bolts, nuts, split pins, engine, engine shield and
case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil, air filter,


I carburettor and all working parts must be cleaned
in order to admit of proper examination. Dust
covers, if used, must be removed before present-
ation in order to admit of an examination being
made in full. All split pins, etc., must be clearly
exposed, also chassis and engine numbers. Drivers'
seats must he securely fastened so that the driver
c,) have proper control over the vehicle. Spot
lights, musical horns and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have it. tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures not
less than 22 inches in height upon a black ..-uinul
in a conspicious place on the right or oli-,il- of
the vehicle.
The registered identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions; No. 35 of. 1958, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily dis-
tinguishable. The attention of owners of motor
omnibuses 4pd goods vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (1) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Sp t lights will not be allowed
ex ept with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of hiring cars and
motor omnibuses is directed to the mo:or Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amemenment) R-gulations, No. 6
of 1944. as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Roid Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulatilns,
No. 70 of 1946, which require that printed copies
of the tariffs of maximum fares be displayed in
such vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, -t. George's, and ,t
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by tne Inspector
to.have .defects must n t be iusdl.on thA roads
until thev have been issued with a certificate,
Certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

Postal Centenary Commemorative
Stamps-New Issue

IT is hereby notified for the information of the
public that June I si being a public holiday,
the Post Offices in Grenada will be opened from
9.00 a.m. to 11..00 a.m. for the purpose of releasing
the New Issue of the Postal Centenary Commemo-
rative Stamps in three denominations, namely,
3 cents, 8 cents and 25 cents.
All letters posted during the time stated above
will be accepted and stamped. Persons desirious
of having special purchases and first day covers
stamped will be accorded the usual facility at the
Post Offices, and arrangements may be made at
the General Post Office on Wednesday, 31st May,
in so far as G.P.O. postings are concerned.
It is expected that this New Issue will be on
sale for a period of four months, or before if stocks
are exhausted.

OFFER OF A TWO YEAR GERMAN
SCHOLARSHIP



THE Federal Government has accepted the offer
of a scholarship by the Federal Hepublic of
Germany to students of the West Indies for the
1962 Academic year.
Thp Scholarship may be granted to students in
any o' tie ordinary University subjects, and will
be tenable at any University, or Engineering
College or Vocational College or College for Arts
and M!usic in Western Berlin or Western Germany.
Conditions of Scholarship: Educational quali-
fication must be proved by means of certificates
and recommendations of Professors. As a rule,
only such applicants are eligible to apply as have
already studied at a University or Vocational
School. Only candidates of graduate status or
those expecting to graduate within a year of this
announcement should apply. A working knowledge
of German will be an advantage.
Applications on the prescribed forms, which are
available at the Administrator's Office, should be
submitted in quadruplicate to the Secretary to
Government not later than 31st May, 1961.

NOTICE

Commonwealth Scholarship and
Fellowship Plan

THE Government of the Federation of Malaya
are offering two-year scholarships in 1962 fir
Commonwealth students to pursue post-graduate
studies or to undertake research in I alaya.
Applicants must he citizens of a Commonwealth
country and normally resident in any part of the
Commonwealth other than Malaya. The scholar-
ships are open to both men and women who will
not have reached their 35th birthday by 1st
January, 1962, and who are, or by the end of 1961
will be graduates of a university or college, or
holders of an equivalent qualification.
The scholarship includes:
(a) transportation to Malaya and return,
normally by tourist air passage, as
arranged by the Malayan Committee;
(b) approved tuition, laboratory and examina-
tion fees;
(c) a personal maintepanco, allowance, payable
monthly at the rate of M$5,400/- per
annum (630 sterling);
(d) a grant for books or equipment of M$150/-
per apnum ;
(e) a grant of up to %I$:00/- per annum for
aDproved travel within Malaya ;
(f) an additional marriage allowance at the
rate of Mi $1,200/- per annum for a male
married scholar eccompinied by his wife,
plus the cost of the wife's fare to Malaya
and return. This allowance will not be
payable during the first year of the tenure
of the scholarship unless the scholar was
married at the time of his application for
an award, and will not be payable if the
wife herself holds a scholarship or is in
paid employment while in Malaya.
Applications on the prescribed form which are
obtainable at the Administrator's Office should be
addressed to the Secretary to Government to reach
him not later than 31st July, 1961.

1. Town Clerk to the Municipal Borough of
St. George's (population 7,300) with a salary of
$3,600.00 x $240-$4,800.00 per annum, and a
Travelling Allowance of $480.00 per annum.
2. Chief Clerk and Accountant, with a salary
of $2,400.00 x $144-$2,880 per annum.
The Town Clerk must he a fit person not
being a member of the Council, and he sLall hold
office during good behaviour.
He shall be the Chief Administrative an Executive
Officer of the Corporation and shall be primarily
responsible for the efficient conduct of the Corpor-
ation's business.
There is a Provident Fund to which employees
contribute 5% of their salaries, the Corporation
contributing a like sum. A pension plan may be
introduced later.
