Election of Councillors

1. Take notice that I will attend at the office
of the Corporation, Grenville Street, St. George's,
on Thursday, 16th March, 1961, between the hours
of 9.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon for the purpose of
receiving nominations for the return of eight (8)
persons to serve as Councillors two for each of the
Wards for the period commencing 28th March, 1961.
2. A person shall not be qualified to be elected
or to be a Councillor unless-
(a) He is entitled to be, and is in fact enrolled as
a burgess; and
(b) He is a British subject by birth or natural-
ization ; and
(c) He is possessed as absolute owner or as a
tenant for life or of some other estate of
freehold of or in real property assessed to
the house rate at an annual rateable value of
not less than two hundred dollars, or is the
actual tenant of a house assessed to the
house rate at an annual rateable value of not

less than two hundred and forty dollars, and
as such tenant has bona file paid within
the preceding twelve months at least one
year's rent in respect of such house; or
alternatively.
(d) He is in receipt of an income of not less than

3. Every candidate for Election shall be nomin-
ated in writing by a duly qualified burgess, seconded
by another.
4. In the event of a contest, polls will be opened
at four stations to be announced later-oine for
each Ward. On Thursday, 23rd March, j961,
between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 4.03 p.m. during
wnich time ballot p-tpers will be issued to every
registered burgess applying Ior same.

2. There will be about sixty (60) members of
the G.V.C. in camp during that period and
three (3) meals per day will be required for each
member.
3. Tenders should state the kicd of meals that
they will be able to serve each day and or any
change that may be made in the diet.
4. The successful applicant will be required to
give a guarantee to ensure that he or she supply
the meals mentioned in the tender and will be re-
quired to keep a bar for the convenience of
personnel in camp.
5. Tenders should be sent to the Office of the
Chief of Police not later than Friday, 24th March,
1961.

Grenada Volunteer Constabulary
Training Camp-1961



MEMBERS of the St. George's, Grand Roy,
Gouyave and Victoria detachments of the
Grenada Volunteer Constabulary will be in camp
at Queen's Park, St. George's from 9th April to
22nd April, 1961.
Members of the St. David's, Grenville, Birchgrove,
Hermitage, Sauteurs, Union and Carriacou det ttch-
nients of the Grenada Volunteer Constabulary will
he in camp at Queen's Park, St. George's from 22nd
April to 6th May, 1961.
Employers are kindly asked to release any mem-
ber in their employ for the purpose of attending the
training camnp du ing the abovd mention-d periods.

Race Meeting, Queen's Park, 3rd and 4th
April, 1961



Regulation of Traffic


Y virtue of the powers vested in me under
Section 79 of the Motor Vehicles and Road
Traffic Ordinince, 1933, I hereby publish the
f allowing orders which shall apply to Queen's
Park on hie 3rd and 4th April, 1961.
(i) From 1 .00 a.m. all vehicles proceeding to
Queen's Park shall enter by the Western
entrance (Green Bridge, Emboucherie Road)
keeping to the newi or left side of the road
(ii) BUSES shall NOT enter the enclosure
opposite the pavilion. They will set down and
take up passengers in the open space outside
the enclosure where they may park. Turn-
ing space will be provided. Exit will be by
way of the left or near-side lane towards
the western exit (Green Bridge, Embouch-
erie Road). Buses may also park on the
Emhoucherie Rotd as directed by the Police
on duty.
(iii) TAXIS may park in their allocated area
outside the enclosure. Tney will be allowed
entrance to the enclosure in which case
they will take exit by way of the bridge to
the River Road.
(iv) PRIVATE OARS will all enter the enclo-
sure and may park in the spaces opposite
the pavilion and east of the race track on
the football field. They will exit by way of
the bridge to the River Road.

(v) NO P IRK[NG OF MOTOR VEHICLES
WILL BE ALLOWED-
(a) On the River Road between its junction
with Melville Street and a spot 100 feet
(marked) east of the bridge exit from
Queen's Park.
(b) On Melville Street and the Emboucherie
Road from the junction with the River
Road to a spot 60 feet (marked) north
of the Western (Green Bride) entrance
to the Park.


(vi) Warning devices (horns) are to be used only
when necessary on the grounds of
safety, and not to summon passengers.

THE following memorandum on the subject of cost-of-living index figures, in so far as agricultural
workers are concerned, is published for general information.
The index was revised in June, 1957 and is shown hereunder as a new series.

COST OF LIVING INDEX FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY, 1961


The revised cost-of-living index figure for all items for the month of January, 1961, is 110.18
a rise of 10.18 points over the base figure for June, 1957, taken as 100.
The following table shows the cost-of-living index figures at the end of each month up to June,
1957, as compared with the base year August, 1939, taken as 100; as well as the figures in the new
series with the base figure at June taken as 100:-

Food: There was no change in the prices of the items under this group during the period under
review. The index figure of I0O.6 for December, 1960, remained unchanged.
Fuel and Cleaning: There was an increase in the retail price of soap (Local, Tempe) which
resulted in an increase of 3.3 points above the figure for December, 1960. The group index figure now
stands at 116.3.
Clothing : During the period under review, the average level prices of articles under this group
remained unchat g d. Trhe group index figure therefore remained at 122.3.
Drink and Tobacco : There was no change in the retail prices cf the items in this group during the
month. The December index figure of 8&.'3 therefore remained unchanged.
Miscellaneous Goods: Due to an increase in the price of Cinema Fee (Pit ticket), the index
under this group rose by 2.0 points above the figure for December 1960. The group index figure is now
11.8.
