NOTICE

THE College of Air Training, Hamble, Southamp-
ton, is prepared to consider suitably qualified
cancliiates for an airline pilots training course
commencing in September, 1961.
2. The course lasts two years and after a care-
ful analysis of the operating costs the Board of
Governors has decided that the cost of training
a cadet from overseas will amount to 8,250.
This covers two years flying and ground training
and includes the sum of 675 for tuiti,.n fees, board
and lodging, uniform, hooks, publications and
stationery etc. The figure does not include pocket
money, travelling to and irom the college or the
cost of residence at the college during leave periods
which amount to seven weeks per year.
3. It is important to note that candidates will
have to travel to the United Kingdom to un']ergo
selection tests at the examination centre, which
will normally be at the Collge and involve resi-
dence for up to five days. In view of this .require-
ment prospective candidates should receive a
thorough medical examination before they leave for
the United King om, so that they stand a good
chance of b ing accepted.

Mail Vans Service


p-HE Public is hereby notified that Mail Boxes
S have been affixed to the Mail Vans which
travel the samQ route throughout all the Parishes
twice daily. The Mail Vans stop at the various
Post Offices and Postal Stations at the usual
scheduled hours both mornings and afternoons.
Stops however will Ie made to permit letters to he
posted on the Vans ab ut one mile before and
after each l'ost4l Station. The practice of collect-
ing ltt-rs all along the route will, as a result, be
discontinued.

to effecting any alterations that may be necessary

to comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently, overihaued.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackro,;s, blake connec o s,
shack'es, bolts, nuts, split pn<, engine, engine
shield and case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil,
air filter, carburettor and all working p irts must
he cleaned in order to aldinit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if used, must be removed before pre-
sentation in order to admit of an examination
being made in full. All split pins, etc., must be
clearly exposed, also chassis and engine numbers.
l)rivers' seats most be securely fastened so that
the driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figure- not
less than *2-minches in height upon a black ground
in a conspicious pla'e on the right or offbide of
the vehicle.
The Registered Identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regnlia-
tions No. 25 of 195-, and be in such a condition
as to render each letti:r or figure readily dis-
tinguishable. The attention of owners of Motor
Omnibuses and Goods Vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 ) () r, g riding the position of
front lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed ex-
cept w'th the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring cars and
Motor Omnibuses is directed to the m )tor Vehicles
and Road Traffc (Amendmrnt) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No 70 of 1946, which require that printed copies
of the Tariffs of Maximum I ares le displayed in
such Vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury St. Geoge's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4j ents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inepector
to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a certific.ite,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

Vacant Post Of Matron Alexandra Hospital Nevis

APPTICATIONS are invited for the post of
Matron, Alexandra Hospital particulars of
S.clh i .is follows :-
Duties of post:- Responsibility to Medical
Superintendent, Alexandra. Hosi ital for nursing
care of patients and supervision and training of
nurses at the Alexandra Hospital (approximately
60 beds). Liable for service in any part of the
territory and to serve in any of the posts of
Assistant Matron, or Sister Tutor, Cunningham
Hospital. Attached to the Alexandra Hospital is
an Infirmary of 24 beds which the officer is also
required to supervise.
Qualifications required by holder of post:-
(a) Candidates must be entitled to be registered
in the general part of the General Nursing
Council for England and Wales, the Gen-
eral Nursing Council for Scotland or the
Joint Nursing and Midwives Council of
Ireland.
(b Must have been admitted to the roll of State
Certified Midwives maintained by one of
the General Midwives Board; and
(c) should be qualified for membership of
the Queen Elizabeth's Oversea Nursing
Service, with basic Education of not less
than Cambridge School Certificate and
should have three to four years Ward
Sister's experience. Preference will be given
to candidates holding a recognized Sister
Tutor Diploma or who have had administra-
tive training.
Salary of post :- $2880 x 120 $3360 per
anlnrm.
Allowances and other circumstances affect-
ing value of the post e.g. Transport:-The
post is pensionable, but the officer would be on
probation for three years.
Quarters, housing accommodation furniture
china, electricity supply etc.:- Basic household
requisites are supplied and can also be obtained
locally but the officer may wish to bring a small
supply of linen, cutlery, crockery, glassware, silver
and small articles. Electricity is available and wilJ
he provided at a charge to the officer at the rate ol
50% of the cost.
Passage :- A free passage will be provided on
first appointment.
Leave :- Vacation leave may be granted at the
rate of 42 days while the officer is in receipt of
salary of less than $3,168 per annum; and 48 days

when the officer is in receipt of salary of $3,168
and over. This leave may be accumulated up to a
maximum of 183 days.
Sick leave :-- Sick leave may be granted with

Canada Non-Resident Fellowship



HE Canada Council is offering a Non-Resident
Fellowship open to nationals of the West
Indies of under 35 years of age for the academic,
year 1961-62. This Fellowship is tenable at an
institntion in Canada and will afford training in the
arts, humanities, or in the social sciences.
2 The Canada Council will pay tuition fees and
the cost of return passages, in addition to a stipend
of $2,000 (Canadian) per annum. A summer
allowance of $500 is payable only where a fellow-
ship is renewed and the holder spends the summer
months in Canada prior to commencing his second
academic year. Ho ders on Non-Resident Fellow-
ship are not allowed to accept assistantships or
teaching appointments.
3. Applications are now invited for the 1961-62
Canada Council Non-Resident award and should be
forwarded to the Secretary to Government, Admin-
istrator's Office, Government House, St. Ge rge's
in quintuplicate on the prescribed form, a specimen
of which may be seen at this office. In addition to
the supporting documents required in Section 8 of
the application form, candidates are requested to
submit evidence that they possess a good knowledge
in English or French, according to their destination
of Canada.

PPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified persons for appointment to the post
of Librarian, Public Library, St. Vincent, partial-
lars of which are as follows:-
Appointment : The post is pensionable, but
appointment may be made on a contract basis (non-
pensionable) for a period of 3 years in the first
instance. The officer will be subject to the Colonial
Regulations, local General Ord-rs and Financial
and Store Rules for the time being in force and in
so far as they are applicable.
Salary :- The salary of the post is in the scale
$1,641.60 x $86.40-$2,592.00 p.a. and appoint-
ment may be made at any point in this scale
depending on the candidate's experience and
qualifications It is expected that the salary of the
post will be increased shortly.
Quarters: Quarters are not provided.
Duties: The Officer will be responsible for the
running and organisation of th publicc Library in
Kingston and for the organisation and supervision
of various branch libraries throughout the Territory,
and will be required to perform such other duties
