NOTICE

T HE College of Air Training, Hamble, Southamp-
ton, is prepared to consider suitably qualified
candidates for an airline pilots training course
commencing in September, 1961.
2. The course lasts two years and after a care-
ful analysis of the operating costs the Board of
Governors has decided that the cost of training
a cadet from overseas will amount to ',250.
This covers two years flying and ground trniniing
and includes the sum of 675 ior tuition fees, boa'.i
and lodging, uniform, books, publications ,n ii
stationery etc. The figure does not include pocket
money, travelling to and from the callego r lhe
cost of residence at the college during le l e pe; i;.is
which amount to seven weeks per year.
3. It is important to note that cani I.;t' will
have to travel to the United Kingdom to undergo
selection tests at the examination centre, which
will normally be at the College and involve resi-
dence for up to five days. In view of this require-
ment prospective candidates should receive a
thorough medical examination before they leave for
the United Kingdom, so that they stand a good
chance of being accepted.

to comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrons, brake connections,
shackles, bolts, nuts, split pins, engine, engine
shield and case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil,
air filter, carburettor and all working parts must
he cleaned in order to adlit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if used, must be removed heforo pre-
sentation in order to admit of an examination
being m;ide in full. All split pins, etc., mnut he
clearly exposed, also chassis and engine numbers.
Drivers' seats must be securely fastened so that
the driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures not
less than 2-inches in height upon a black ground
in a conspicious pla e on the right or offside of
the vehicle.
The Registored Identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions No. 35 of 1950:, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily dis-
tinguishable. The attention of owners of Motor
Omnibuses and Goods Vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 1) (a) r g irding the position of
front lamps. epot lights will not be allowed ex-
cept with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring crs and
Motcr Omnibuses is directed to thle m.)tor Vehicles
and Road Traffe (Amn-enduent) Regulations, No. 6
of 1941, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No 70 of 1095, which require that private i copies
of the Tariffs of Maximum 1-ares !e displayed in
such Vehicles. These are now ava'l:dbl and may
be purchased at the Treasury St. GrL'o'ge's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at cents per copy.
Vehicles which Ihive been found .y the Ii>p ctor
to have defects must no lie used on ithe roads
until li-y have been issued with i, c(ltific te,
certifying that the vehicles may he duly licensed.

Vacant Post Of Matron Alexandra Hospital Nevis

Matron, Alexandra Hospital particulars of

Duties of post :- Responsibility to Medical
Superintendent, Alexandra Hos ital for nursing

Leave :- Vacation leave may be granted at the
rate of 42 days while the officer is in receipt of
salary of less than $3,168 per annum; and 48 days
when the officer is in receipt of salary of $3,168
and over. This leave may be accumulated up to a
maximum of 183 days.
Sick leave :- Sick leave may be granted with
full salary, up to a maximum period of six months
during any period of twelve months or less.
Thereafter, further extension of sick leave may be
ganted with half salary, subject to a maximum
period of sick leave in all, with full and half
salary, not exceeding twelve months in any period
of four years or less.

Canada Non-Resident Fellowship



THE Canada Council is offering a Non-Resident
Fellowship open to nationals of the West
Indies of under 35 years of age for the academic,
year 1961-62. This Fellowship is tenable at an
institution in Canada and will afford training in the
arts, humanities, or in the social sciences.
2. The Canada Council will pay tuition fees and
the cost of return passages, in addition to a stipend
of $2,000 (Canadian) per annum. A summer
allowance of $500 is payable only where a fellow-
ship is renewed and the holder spends the summer
months in Canada prior to commencing his second
academic year. Holders on Non-Resident Fellow-
ship are not allowed to accept assistantships or
teaching appointments.
3. Applications are now invited for the 1961-62:
Canada Council Non-Resident award and should be
forwarded to the Secretary to Government, Admin-
istrator's Office, Government House, St. George's
in quintuplicate on the prescribed form, a specimen
of which may be seen at this office. In addition to
the supporting documents required in Section 8 of
the application form, candidates are requested to
submit evidence that they possess a good knowledge
in English or French, according to their destination
of Canada.
