Administrator in Council that certain
lands situated in the parish of St. Andrew,
in the Colony of Grenada, are to be acquir-
ed for a public purpose

DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND

(First Publication)

WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No 3 of
1945) that the Acting Administcator in Council
considers that any land should be acquired for a
Public Purpose he may cause a declaration to that
effect to be made ;
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Acting
Administrator in Council that the land mentioned
and described in the Schedule hereto should be
acquired for a public purpose, to wit for H housing
and Subsistence Garden Settlement;
Now, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DECLARED
BY HIS HONOUR THE ACTING ADMINISTRATOR,
acting after consultation with the Executive Council
of the Colony cf Grenada, that upon the second
publication of this declaration in the Gazette, the
land mentioned and described in the Schedule
hereto shall be acquired for the above mentioned
purposes and shall vest absolutely in the Crown.
AND IT IS HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED AND
NOTIFIED that the land referred to at Mirabeau
Estate in the parish of St. Andrew, in the Colony
of Grenada, is by approximately five (5) acres.

WHER.EAS it is enacted by Section 4 of the
I.n:d Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No. 3 of
1945) that if it appears to the Acting Administrator
in Council that any land is likely to be required for
any purpose which, in the opinion of the Acting
Administrator in Council is a public purpose and
it isnecessary to make a preliminary survey or
othtr.investigation of the lanrd, he may cause a


notification to that effect to be published in the
Gazette:

Regulation 22 of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Regulations, 1938

Motor Omnibuses and Hiring Cars) Goods
Vehicles and Trailers, are hereby notified that the
half-yearly inspection of these vehicles will com-
mence as follows :-

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then approach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view
to effecting any alterations that may be necessary


to comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrods, brake connections,
shackles, bolts, nuts, split pins, engine, engine
shield and case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil,
air filter, carburettor and all working parts must
be cleaned in order to admit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if used, must be removed before pre-
sentation in order to admit of an examination
being made in full. All split pins, etc., must be
clearly exposed, also chassis and engine numbers.
Drivers' seats mast be securely fastened so that
the driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures not
less than 2 inches in height upon a black ground
in a conspicious place on the right or offside of
the vehicle.
1 he Registered Identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions No. 35 of 1958, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily dis-
tinguishable. The attention of owners of Motor
Omnibuses and Goods Vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (1) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed ex-
cept with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring cars and
Motor Omnibuses is directed to the motor Vehicles
and Road Traffc (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No 70 of 1946, which require that printed copies
of the Tariffs of Maximum lares be displayed in
such Vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. Gcorge's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

Vacant post of Co-operative Officer, Depart-
ment of Science and Agriculture,
Barbados

A PPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to
the above post.
Appointment: The post is pensionable with
salary in the scale $3,528x144-4,392 : 4,560x192
-5,520 per annum plus a temporary non-pension-
able cost of living allowance of $108 per annum.
Point of entry into the scale will he determined in
the light of qualifications and experience of the
officer. Salary is subject to deduction of 4% in
accordance with the provisions of the Widows' and
Orphans' Pension Act, 1928. Appointment is

subject to medical fitness.
Duties: To promote co-operation in all its
aspects. The officer will also be required to under-
take the duties of Registrar of Co-operative Socie-
ties under the Co-operative Societies Act, 1949, an1
probably those of Registrar of Friendly Societies.
Qualifications : Extensive experience in co-
operatives, especially in successfully organising
agricultural co-operatives.
Leave: Vacation leave is at the rate of 45
days a year accumulative up to 180 days. Casual
leave and sick leave are also granted.
Passages: Passages of officer and family are
payable on appointment up to a maximum of
$1,920. Leave passages for officer and wife are
payable every 3 years.
Applications stating age, qualifications and ex-
perience and accompanied by at least two recent
testimonials should be submitted to the Chief
Secretary, Government Headquarters, Bay Street,
Barbados, to reach him not letter than. 5th
November, 1960.


POST OF CROWN SURVEYOR-DOMINICA

APPLIC \TIONS are invited for appointment to
the post of Crown Surveyor, Dominica.
1. Appointment: The post is pensionable and
the appointment carries with it liability to transfer
to any post of equivalent status in the West Indies.
2. Qualifications: Applicants must possess
at least the Intermediate Certificate of the Royal
Institute of Surveyors or its equivalent. Pre-
ference will be given to those with experience in
land settlement work.
3. Salary : The salary is at the rate of
$5,184.00 per annum in the scale $5,184 x 144-
$6,048.00. No cost of living allowance is payable.
4. Allowances: A transport allowance is pay-
able in accordance with local regulations.
5. Quarters : Quarters are not provided.
6. Passages: Free passages will be provided
for the officer, his wife and children on first appoint-
ment, not exceeding five persons in all. Passages
on leave are provided in accordance with the Wind-
ward Islands leave passage provisions.
7. Duties: The officer will be required to
carry out such duties as may be directed from time
to time. He may undertake private work whilst
he is on vacation leave or with the permission of
the Administrator in each individual case on
Saturday afternoons, Sundays and Bank holidays.
This concession is temporary and may be with-
drawn should circumstances render desirable such
a course.

the Rifle Range at Queel's Park, St. George's,
will be used for Rifie firing practice on Monday
24th October, 1960, and continuing daily from
7.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. until further notice.
2. When firing is in progress, and for one hour
beforehand RED FLAGS will be flown on either
side of the Butts on the D'ARBEAU HILL.
This signal indicates that it is DANGEROUS to
approach or remain in the vicinity of the Rifle
Range, and all persons frequenting the area are
HEREBY WARNED to keep clear of it, and
owners of stock to remove their animals from it.

NOTICE
Commonwealth Scholarship and
Fellowship Plan

UNDER the Commonwealth Scholarship and
Fellowship Plan, the Federation of Rhodesia
and Nyasaland is offering scholarships for post-
graduate study tenable at the University College
of Rhodesia end Nyasaland (which is in special
relationship with the University of London) from
March, 1961.
The scholarships will be for a period of two
academic years and are open to men and women
students who are by the time of taking up an
award in 19t)1, will be graduates of a university or
college or holders of an equivalent qualification.
Candidates should be less than 28 years of age on
1st March, 1961.
The emoluments of the scholarships will con-
sist of :-
(a) Fares (normally at tourist-class rates, by


sea or air) to the Federation and return on
expiry of scholarship;
(b) Fees-an amount sufficient to cover approved
tuition and examination fees;
(c) Personal maintenance allowance at the rate
of 780 per annum;
(d) A grant of 25 for books and apparatus;
(e) A grant of up to 100 for approved travel
within the Federation;

Appointment : Pensionable subject to pro-
bationary period of twelve months, or on contract
for three years in the first instance; contract
