AID TO PIONEER INDUSTRIES ORDINANCE, 1952.



NOTICE is hereby given in accordance with paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section 3 of the Aid to
Pioneer Industries Ordinance, 1952 (No. 19 of 1952) that the Administrator in Council proposes
making the order set out hereunder. Any person who objects to the making of the said order should
give notice in writing of his objections to the Clerk of the Executive Council on or before the 31st day of
August, 1960.

STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS, NO. OF 1960.

Order made by the Administrator in Council under section 3 (1) of the Aid to Pioneer
Industries Ordinance, 1952. (No. 19 of 1952).



1. Short title. This Order may be cited as the
AID TO PIONEER INDUSTRIES (BREWING OF BEER) ORDER, 1960.

2. Declaration of Pioneer Industry. The brewing of beer is hereby declared to be a pioneer
industry for the purpose of the Aid to Pioneer Industries Ordinance, 1952; and beer is hereby declared
to be a pioneer product for the said purposes.

NOTICE

HIS Honour the Administrator has appointed an
S Investigating Committee to enquire into, and
report upon the General administration of the
Public Works Department with particular reference
to-
(a) Accounting procedure and control in respect
of voted expenditure ;
(b) Control of expenditure on and payments in
respect of work given out on contract; and
(c) Wasteful expenditure in relation to the use
of materials and method of application of
materials on the roads ;
and to make recommendations.
Persons desiring to give evidence before the
Committee or to submit memoranda are invited to
to communicate with the Secretary to the
Committee at the Chambers of the Attorney-
General from the date of publication hereof up to
and including 13th August, 1960.
The Committee will sit daily from Monday to
Friday between the hours of 1.30 and 4.00 p.m. at
the Rehabilitation building at Tanteen, St. George's.


ROYAL SOCIETY OF BRITISH SCULPTORS

The Sir Otto Beit Medal for Sculpture

T HE Royal Society of British Sculptors wish to
S bring to the attention of sculptors working in
the British Isles and Commonwealth the following
information.
From the fund provided by Sir Otto Beit for the
provision of the "Annual best work of the y.ar
Medal" which may be awarded only to works
exhibited to the public in London, the Council have
been authorised to award a second medal to be
known as the Sir Otto Beit medal for Sculpture "
for works exhibited to the public elsewhere in the
British Isles and Commonwealth.
By the terms of the bequest only sculptors who
are British subjects are eligible for this award.
Nominations for this award giving particulars of
the sculptor, together with photographs, details and
dimensions of the work concerned, should be sent
to the Secretary, Royal Society of British Sculptors,
6 Queen Square, London, W.C. 1. Photographs
etc. should reach the office not later than October
25th.
The decision of the Council is final.


The first sitting of the said Committee will take A copy of the rules can be obtained from the
place on Wednesday 3rd August, 1960. Administrator's Office on application.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF THE WEST INDIES

APPLICATIONS are invited for the post of (A)
Senior Lecturer or (B) Lecturer in the Depart-
ment of Obsterics & Gynaecology. Duties include
instruction of students reading for medical degrees
of the University of London, research and clinical
work in the University College Hospital.
The salary scales (under review) are: (A)
1,850 x 100-2,550; (B) 1,300 x 100-1,705 x 100
-2,100 per annum. Point of entry determined by
qualifications and experience. Child allowance.
F.S.S.U. Unfurnished accommodation at rental
not in excess of 10% of basic salary. Passages for
up to 5 persons on appointment, normal termina-
tion and triennial study leave. Duties to be assum-
ed by 1st January, 1961.

qualifications and experience and the names of
three referees should be received by 20th August,
1960 by the Secretary, Senate Committee on
Colleges Overseas in Special Relation University of

GOVERNMENT NOTICE

Post of Administrative Assistant, Barbados

APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to
any vacancies that may occur in respect of
the above mentioned post.
Qualifications : Candidates should preferably
be between the ages of 21 and 28 years at the date
of application and should posess a recognized Uni-
versity Degree, preferably with honours.
Duties : The successful candidate will be re-
quired to assist in the performance of duties of an
administrative nature and will be liable to transfer
between the Ministries and Secretariat in order to
gain experience.
Appointment and Salary : Appointment will
be subject to medical fitness and a probationary
period of two years. The post is pensionable with
salary in the scale $3,528x$144-$4,392 plus a
temporary Cost of Living Allowance of $108 per
annum. Commencing salary will be determined in
the light of the successful candidate's qualifications
and experience. Salary is subject to deduction of
4% per annum under the Widows and Orphans'
Pension Scheme, in the case of male officers.
Passages : The successful candidate will be
eligible for the cost of passages for himself and
family from the place of recruitment up to a limit
of $1,920.
Leave and Leave Passages : Vacation leave
is granted at the rate of 45 days a year, accumulative
up to 180 days. In addition casual leave and sick
leave are granted in accordance with the Barbados
Leave Regulations, 1952. On completion of a tour
of service of three and a half years the officer is
eligible for leave passages for himself and, if married
for his wife. A pro rata passage allowance is payable
on completion of not less than two years of tour.
Applications stating age, qualifications and
experience, and accompanied by two recent testi-
monials, should be addressed to the Chief Secretary,
Government Headquarters, Bay Street, St. Michael,
to reach him not later 31st August, 1960.

VACANCY NOTICE
Agriculture Department, British Guiana
Vacancies for Veterinary Officers.

APPOINTMENT: Pensionable (age limit 40
years subject to a probationary period of
twelve months), or on contract for three years in
the first instance.
Salary on scale $3,696 x $144 -$4,560//x $240-
$6,720 per annum. Commencing salary accord-
ing to qualification and/or approved relevant post-
graduate experience. Contract appointment carries
gratuity of 22% of basic salary.
2. Qualifications: A Veterinary qualification
obtained from an approved Veterinary School or
College, which is registrable with the Royal College
of Veterinary Surgeons or in any of the self-govern-
ing British Commonwealth territories.
3. Information as to duties of post and conditions

NOTICE

Particulars of The Vacant Post of Resident
Medical Officer, St. Lucia, The West Indies


APPLIOATIONS are invited from suitable quali-
fled Medical Officers for appointment to the
vacant post of Resident Medical Officer, St. Lucia.
Candidates should posess qualifications registrable
in the United Kingdom.
1. Appointment: The appointment is on con-
tract for a period of one year or more.
It will be subject to Colonial Regulations and to
local General Orders in force for the time being
in so far as they are applicable.
2. Salary: The salary is in the scale $3,840x
$120-$4,800(800x25-1,000) per annumi, plus
20 per cent pensionable pay addition.
3. Quarters: Furnished quarters will be pro-
vided. Arental of 10 per cent of salary or 5 per
cent of the capital value, whichever is the less,
subject to a maximum rental of $720 (150) per
annum, will be payable in respect of quarters, and
a rental of 10 percent of present capital value is
payable for furniture.
4. Leave. Vacation leave on full salary at the
rate of 4 weeks far each completed year of resi-
dence service will be granted on the satisfactory
termination of the contract.
5. Duties. The officer will be posted at the
Victoria Hospital and will be required to perform
the usual duties of a resident medical officer.
6. Private Practice. Private practice will
not be permitted, but the officer will not be
granted in lieu thereof a non-pensionable allowance
of $480 (100) per annum.
7. Passages. Free return passages will be pro-
vided on the satisfactory completion of the con-
tract for the officer, his wffe and children, not
exceeding 5 persons in all. Children must be
under 18 years of age and dependent on the
officer.
8. Medical Attendance. Free medical atten-
dance and medicines ure not provided.
9. General. Government officers are liable to
taxation imposed by local legislation.


NOTICE

Post of Architect, Public Works Department,
Barbados

APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to
the above post.
Appointment: The post is pensionable with
salary in the scale $4,560 x 192-5,520: 5,760
x 240-6,240 (Q.B.) 6,720 x 480-7,200. Point of
-entry into the scale will be determined in the light
of qualifications and experience of the successful
candidate. A temporary non-pensionable cost of
living allowance of $108 per annum is also payable.
Salary is subject to a deduction of 4% per annum
in accordance with the provisions of the Widows'
and Orphans' Pension Act, 1928. Appointment is
subject to medical fitness and a probationary period
of two years.
Qualifications: A.R.I.B.A. or its equivalent.
Duties: The officer shall work under the
general director of the Director, Public Works


Department, and shall be required to assist him
in the design and preparation of plans of public
buildings and institutions and to supervise their
construction.
Leave : Vacation leave is at the rate of 45 days
., year accuiiiulative up to 180 days. Casual aid
sick leave are also granted.
Passages: Passages of officer and family are
payable on appointment up to a limit of $1,920.
Leave passages for officer and wife are payable
every three and a half years.

Secretary, Government Headquarters, Bay Street,
St. Michael, Barbados, to reach him not later than

PARTICULARS OF VACANT POST OF DISTRICT
MEDICAL OfFICER, ST. LUCIA THE WEST
INDIES.

A PPLIOATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified Medical Officers for appointment to
the vacant post of District Medical Officer,
St. Lucia. Candidates should possess qualifications
registrable in the United Kingdom.
1. Appointment: The post is pensionable and
is subject to two years' probation in the firat
instance, but if desired, the appointment may be
on a temporary contractual basis for a period of
three years in the first instance. It will be sub-
ject to Colonial Kegulations and to 'local General
Orders in force for the time being in so far as they
are applicable.
2. Salary: The Salary is in the scale $8,840 x
$120-$4,800 (800 x 25 -1,000) per annum,
plus 20 per cent pensionable pay addition.
3. Quarters: Unfurnished Government qnar-
'ters will be provided, if available, at a rental of 10
per cent of the capital value, whichever is the less,
subject to a maximum rental af $720 per annum.
4. Leave and Leave Passages: Vacation
leave'on full'salary'will be granted as follows :-
(a) In the case of a permanent appointment,
at the rate of 45 days for each period
of 12 consecutive months' resident
service.
(b) In the case of a contract appointment, at
the rate of one week for each completed
period of 3 months' resident service,
such leave to be taken on the satis-
factory completion of the period of the
officer's engagement.
Leave passages will be provided in
accordance with local regulations.
5. Duties: The officer will be required to
perform the usual duties of a District Medical
Officer and will be liable for service in any Institu-
tion or Dietrict in the Colony.
6. Private Practice : Private practice will be
permitted.
7. Passages: Free passages to St. Lucia will
be provided for the officer, his wife and children,
not exceeding 5 persons in all on first appointment.
