In The Matter Of The Land Acquisition
Ordinance, 1945 (No. 3 of 1945).

In the matter of a declaration by the Governor
in Council that certain lands situate in the
Island of Carriacou, a Dependency of the
Colony of Grenada, are to be acquired for
a public purpose.

DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND.
(Second Publication).

W HEREAS it is enacted by section 3 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945 (No. 3
of 1945), that if the Governor in Council considers
that any land should be acquired for a public
,purpose he may cause a declaration to that effect
to be made:
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Gov-
ernor in Council that the land mentioned and
described in the Schedule hereto should be
acquired for a public purpose, to wit, for a
cemetery for interment of the dead.
Now, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DECLARED
by His Excellency the Governor, acting after
consultation with the Executive Council of the
Colony of Grenada, that upon the Second Pub-
lication of this Declaration in the Gazette, the land
mentioned and described in the Schedule hereto
shall be acquired for the above-mentioned purpose
and shall vest absolutely in the Crown.
AND IT IS HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED AND
NOTIFIED that a plan of the above mentioned land
may be inspected 'between the hours of 9.00 a.m.
and 4.00 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and 9.00
a.m. and 12.00 noon on Saturdays at the District
Office, Carriacou, and the Public Works Depart-
ment Offices in the town of Saint George.
AND IT Is HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED
AND NOTIFIED that Mr. D. K. Samuels, Lands
Officer, is appointed Authorised Officer for the
purpose of the acquisition of the said land.
SCHEDULE.
:ALL THAT lot piece or parcel of land originally
"part of the estate of Harriet Baker, deceased, situate
in the island of Carriacou, a dependency of the
Island of Grenada, containing by admeasurement
1 acre 1 rood 33. poles, English Statue Measure,
reputed to belong to the heirs of Harriet Baker,
deceased, and abutted and'bounded as delineated
and described in the plan or diagram thereof here-
inbefore mentioned.

the Inspector cf Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view
to effecting any alterations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings. axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrods, brake connections,
shackles, bolts, nuts, split pins, engine, engine
shield and case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil,
air filter, carburettor and all working parts must
be cleaned in order to admit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if used, must be removed before pre-
sentation in orderr to admit of an examination
being made in full: All split pins, etc., must be
clearly exposed, also chassis .Dd engine numbers.
Drivers' seats must be securely fastened so that
the driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns, and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures not
less than 21 inches in height upon a black ground
in a conspicuous place on the right or offside of
the vehicle.
The Registered Identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions, No. 35 of 1958, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily dis-
tinguishable. The attention of owners of Motor
Omnibuses and Goods Vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (11) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed ex-
cept with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring cars and
Motor Omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No. 70 of 1946, which require that printed copies
of the Traiffs of Maximum Fares be displayed in
such Vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been fund by the Inspector
to have defects must not be used- on the roads
until they have been issued with a Certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

THE WEST INDIES

Vacncies in the Federal Services-Assistant
Meteorologists, Meterological Service.


PPLICATIONS are invited from candidates
suitable for training to he Assistant Meteoro-
logists in the West Indies Meteorological Service.
Selected candidates will be required to attend a
presc ibed course of instruction and thereafter to
undergo in-service training at the Main Meteoro-
logical Offices in Trinidad, Jamaica and the
Bahamas. On completion of their training,
officers may be required to serve at any station
maintained by the Service. During training only.
officers stationed outside their home territories
will receive an appropriate subsistence allowance
All appointments will be on thre years' pro-
bation in the scale $4,080x240-$6,480 per annum.
Univeristy graduates enter this scale at $4.560
per annum ; other candidates enter at the mini-
mum. After training, officers stationed in the
Bahamas receive an additional non-pensionable
allowance. During the period of probation the
appointments are subject to termination at one
monlh's notice, for which no reason need be given.
The posts are pensionable and appointments will
be conditional upon a satisfactory medical
examination.

Vacant Post of Mechanical Engineer,
Waterworks Department, Barbados.


APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to
the above post.
Qualifications : Corporate Membership of the
Institution of Mechanical Engineers or equivalent
qualification. Candidates should preferably have
had at least five years' experience in the installation
and maintenance of pumping machinery powered
.by electric, steam and diesel engines.
Appointment and Salary: The post is
pensionable with salary in the scale $4,560 x 192-
5,520 x 240-6,240 (Q.B.) 6,720 x 480 x 7,200 per
annum plus a temporary C.O.L.A. of $108 per
annum. Point of entry into scale will be deter-
mined in the light of qualifications and experience
of the successful candidate. Salary is subject to
deduction of 4% per annum under the Widows'
and Orphans' Pension Scheme. Appointment is
slbje't to medical fitness and two years probation.
A loan is obtainable towards the purchase of a
motor vehicle and travelling allowance is payable
in accordance with local rates.
Passages: Passages of officer and family are
payableon first appointment up to a limit of $1,920.
Leave passages for officer and wife are payable
every 3i years.
Duties: The officer will be responsible for the
operation and maintenance of the Government
pumping machinery at the several pumping stat-
ions which includes electric, steam and diesel units.

The post is pensionable with salary in the scale
$3,528 x 144-4,392: 4,560 x 192-4,944 per
annum plus a temporary Cost of Living Allowance
of $108 per annum. 'The point of entry into the
scale will be determined in the light of qualifications
and experience of successful candidate. Salary is
subject to deduction of 4% per annum under the
Widows'and Orphans' Pension Scheme. Appoint-
ment is subject to medical fitne'-s and two years'
probation.
The officer will be required to undertake agro-
nomical investigations under the direction of the
Chemist and such other duties as may from time
to time be determined by the Director of Agri-
culture.
Candidates should possess a degree in Chemistry
in addition to agricultural training at a level not
less than that of the Diploma of the Imperial Col-
lege of Tropical Agriculture.

first appointment up to a limit of $1,920. Leave

3- years.
