Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then approach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance -wth'a view














.o effecting any alterations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehiclesi
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, aod of the;
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrods, brake connections,
shackles, bolts, nuts, split pins, engine, engine
shield and case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil,
air filter, carburettor and all working parts must
be cleaned in order to admit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if used, must be removed before pre-
sentation in order to admit of an examination
being made in full. All split pins, etc., must be
clearly exposed, also chassis and engine numbers.
Drivers' seats must be securely fastened so that
the driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns, ;nd whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures not,
less than 2N inches in height upon a black ground
in a conspicuous place on the right or offside of
the vehicle.
The Registered Identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions, No. 35 of 1958, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter .or figure readily dis-
tinguishable. The attention of owners of Motor
Omnibuses and Goods Vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (11) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed ex-
cept with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring cars and
Motor Omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No. 70 of 1946, which require that printed copies
of the Traiffs of tfaximum Fares be displayed ih
such Vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Nehicl-s which have been found by the Inspector
to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a Certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

THE following notice is published for public
" information :-

Travel to the Dominican Republic
The Consul General of the Dominican Republic
in Port-of-Spain has furnished the Federal Govern-
ment with the following information regarding
travel by West Indian citizens to the Dominican
Republic :
1. It is not necessary for British subjects ,to.
obtain visas.


2. British subjects may enter the Dominican
Republic upon presentation of a Tourist
Card which may be obtained,from any air-
line or tourist agency -and which .need not
be endorsed by a Con-ulate of the Dominican
Republic.
3. British subjects may remain in the Dominican
Republic covered by the'Tourist Card for a
period of 15 days. This stay may be
extended by the Immigration Department
to two months at the discretion of the
authorities. British subjects will be able
to visit the Republic with this Card on
cruises, vacations, tourism, business .trips
and personal calls, provided that they 'do
not undertake any remunerated activity.
4. Travellers of any nationality, including
British subjects, who pass through the
Dominican Republic INTRANSIT to other
countries, and disembark with the purpose
of making connections or boarding another
means of transport on the same day of their
arrival to the country, need no Consular
visa or Tourist Card. Travellers "intransit"
should carry their tickets and their Pass-
ports valid and duly visaed for the country
of their destination.
5. Travellers who enter the Dominican .Ropullic
under any conditions should be -provided
with a valid Passport. Certificates of Good
Conduct, Health, Vaccination, and ticketss
for leaving the country.
These facilities apply also to Brazilian and
United States citizens.

when carried on behalf of -Government and under
the conditions laid down in the contract.

NOTICE.

VACANCY IN THE FEDERAL SERVICE-

Chief Technical Officer, Works.

A PPLICATIONS are invited for appointment in
the Federal Public Service to the post of Chief
Technical Officer (Works) in the Ministry of
Communications & Works at a fixed salary of
$12,000 (2500) per annum. The appointment
will be on contract for two years in the first
instance.
Duties: The duties of the Chief Technical
Officer (Works) will be both executive and advisory
and will entail in the first instance one year's
residence in one of the territories in the Windward or
Leeward Islands (probably St. Lucia) for the purpose
both of assisting their Governments with specific
engineering problems in their development plans
and of investigating the needs in these islands for
additional specialist engineering skills which the
Federal Government proposes to provide by a pool
of technicians.
The officer will also act as adviser to the Federal
Government in all engineering matters including
the promotion of research, standardization, codes of
practice etc.
Qualifications : Candidates, who must not be
less than 40 years of age, must be corporate members
of the Institute of Civil Engineers (or with equi-
valent qualifications) with a minimum of ten years'
practice or employment in positions of responsi-
bility, with wide and varied experience in the
organization and execution of works programmes in
tropical countries, Municipal or Governmental ex-
perience and knowledge of tropical conditions will
be taken into consideration.
General Conditions of Service : A statement
of the conditions of service applicable.to the above
post will be made available on application to the
Government Office, Grenada, W.I.
Applicants should furnish evidence of their age
and qualifications, a recent testimonial and give
names of two referees. Applications should be
sent to the Federal Fecretary, Federal House ",
Port of Spain, Trinidad, W.I., to reach him not
later than 30th November, 1969.

Tenders For Sale Of Ice Produced
At the Factory.

EALED Tenders are invited for the purchase of
ice from the Government Ice Factoiy for sale
in each of the six parishes of Grenada during the
year 1960 on the following terms and conditions:-
(i) Purchase price-76c. per block of not less
than 105 lbs.
(ii) Retail price-St. George's-ic. per lb
Other parishes 2c. per lb.
(iii) Depots-The contractor for St. George's
will be required to establish storage and
resale depots at the Carenage, the Market


Square and Lucas Street. The respective
contractor for each of the other parishes
will be required to maintain at least one
depot in the main town of the parish.
(iv) Security-Each contractor will be required
to sign a bond with the Financial secretary
in the sum of $3,500 and the contract will
not be binding until the bond is executed.
A person may tender for one p rish only or for
any number of parishes.

Tenders, Carriacou Mail And
Passenger Service.


EALED tenders are invited for the conveyance
of mails, passengers and cargo weekly between
Grenada and Carriacou by auxiliary vessel for the
period 1st January to 31st December, 1960 in
accordance with the schedule given hereunder.
2. The vessels to be use : for the service must
not be less than 40 tons and must be equipped
with adequate seating accommodation and sanitary
facilities for not less than thirty (30) passengers,
and with life boats for passengers and crew.
3. All personnel travelling on official business,
and plant material, livestock, etc. transported on
behalf of Government wi'l be conveyed free of
charge. Suitable space must also be reserved be-
low deck for the carriage of ice shipped to
Carriacou by the Government's ice contractor,
such ice to b, transpoLurd Jrele of charge up to a
maximum of 1 lions.
4. Tenders should he submitted to the Chair-

A PPLICATIONS are invited for (a) Lecturer or
(b) Assistant Lecturer in English with special
qualifications in English Language.
The salary scales are :
(a) 1,150 x 50-1,450 x 75-1,900;
(b) 950 x 50-J,050.
Entry point to be determined by qualifications
and experience. Child allowance is paid. Super-
annuation under F.S.S.U. arrangements. Unfur.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF THE WEST INDIES.

Admission of Undergraduates in
October 1960.

1. APPLICATIONS are invited for admission
to the University College of the West Indies in
October 1960.
2. A number of Open Scholarships, Government
Exhibitions and other awards will be offered in
1960, as a result of the University College Scholar-
ship Examination which will be held in each
territory from 29th February to 5th March, 1960.
The entry fee to the Scholarship Examination is
1. 0. 0. Some candidates for entrance only may
also be asked to write some papers in the Scholar-
ship Examination.
3. Candidates may qualify for normal minimum
entrance requirements with :
A. Passes in five subjects at the G.C.E. of
which at least two must be passed at Ad-
vanced Level.
OR
B. Passes in four subjects at the G.C.E. of
which at least three must be passed at
Advanced Level.
Normally a credit at the Cambridge School
Certificate is equivalent to an Ordinary Level pass
G.C.E. and a pass at Principal Standard H.S.C. is
equivalent to a pass at Advanced Level G.C.E.
4. Candidates with five passes at Credit Stan-
dard or five '0' Level subjects G.C.E. including
English Language, Mathematics and a foreign
language may be considered for entry to the
Faculty of Medicine or to the Preliminary Course
in Science.
5. Students wishing to read for an Arts Degree
should have included in their qualification either
English and at least one foreign language at the
Ordinary or Advanced G.C.E. Level, or two foreign
languages including Latin or Greek.

from the Registrar, U.C.W.I. or the Education

VACANCY LIBRARIAN.


A PPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
Librarian of the Caribbean Commission's
Library.
Applicants should be in possession of a Univer-
sity Degree in librarianship, or its equivalent.
They should have had many years of practical
experience in all aspects of library work and should
be qualified to carry out research for the Commis-
sion or the Governments it serves.
The Librarian is the editor of Current Caribbean
Bibliography an annual publication containing
bibliographical entries on all Caribbean imprints.
The Librarian is assisted by a Library Assistant
and two clerks.
It is expected that the applicant selected will be
between the ages of 30 and 45 years.
The salary offered will be within the salary
range of $4,800 to $6,000 U.S. currency a year
payable in the currency of the country in which
the headquarters is situated. The level fixed will
depend upon the candidate's qualifications and
experience.
The Commission offers attractive allowances and
leave conditions.
Applicants must be prepared to serve in Trinidad
during the early part of 1960 and thereafter in
Puerto Rico.
A thorough knowledge of English is essential.
Applicants with a knowledge of French, Spanish
Dutch will be given preference.
Applications, including a small photograph,
should be submitted to the Secretary General of
the Caribbean Commission at Kent House, Port
of Spain, Trinidad, W.I., to reach him not7 later
than December 1, 1969.

St. George's, on Friday the 27th November,
1959, at 12.00 o'clock noon all the right title and
interest of the above named Defendant in :
ALL THAT estate called Palmiste containing
four hundred and sixty acres, approximately situate
in St. John's, bounded as described in the Indenture,
dated on or about 17th April, 1926, made between
MARY ANN MC PHAIL and Others and RUGGLES
Low FERGUSON recorded in the Deeds and Land
Registry of Grenada, in Liber 18 page 814 SAVE
AND EXCEPT the premises known as The

The interest of the Defendant in the said estate is
believed to be:
1. An undivided quarter in fee simple in possess-
ion subject to an executory devise over in favour of
DONALD FERGUSON and CLAYTON FERGUSON in
the event of the death of the Defendant without
having had issue who shall have attained the age
of twenty-one years.
2. Another undivided quarter in fee simple in
possession, (formerly the property of MONICA
BLACKBURN) subject to an executory devise over
in favour of the said DONALD FERGUSON and
CLAYTON FERGUSON in the event of the said
MONICA BLACKBURN dying without having had
issue who shall have attained the age of twenty-one
years.
3. A contingent interest in another quarter in
the event of the said DONALD FERGUSON dying
without having had issue who shall have attained
the age of twenty-one years.
4. A contingent interest in another quarter in the
event of the said CLAYTON FERGUSON dying
without having had issue who shall have attained
-the age of twenty-one years, which above interest
are subject :
(i) As to the Defendant's two undivided quarter
shares to a mortgage dated 8th July, 1955 made
between the Defendant MONICA.BLACKBURN and
CREYMON PARYAG and the Incorporated Trustees
of the Church of England and recorded in the
Deeds and Land Registry of Grenada, in LiberR 9
page 466 upon which $14,400.00 with interest
thereon from 9th April, 1958 at the .rate of $7.00
per centum per annum is owing.
(ii) As to the Defendant's original quarter share
to a Mortgage dated 8th September, 1958, made
between the Defendant and CLAYTON FERGUSON
aforesaid and recorded in the Deeds and Latd
Registry in Liber V 9 page 706 upon which
$3,360 00 with interest thereon from 9th Septem-
ber, 1955 at the rats of $7.00 per centum per
annum is owing.
(iii) A charge in favour of the Government of
Grenada upon the Defendant's interest and interest
of the said CLAYTON FERGUSON for $48,288.14
under the Agriculture Rehablitation Ordinance.
The above is being sold free from Judgments
against the said Defendant so far as known.
The sale is subject to the usual conditions of sale
a copy of which can be seen at the Registrar's
Office and to the REDUCED RESERVE PRICE

The post is pensionable with salary in the scale
$3,528x144-4,392 (Q.B.) 4,56Cx192-5,520x240
-6,240 per annum plus a temporary non-pensione-
able cost of living allowance of $108 per annum.

under the Widows' and Orphans' Pension Scheme.
