IN THE MATTER OF THE LAND ACQUISITION
ORDINANCE, 1945 (NO. 3 OF 1945).
AND
In the matter of a Declaration by the Governor
in Council that certain lands situated at
Belmont in the Parish of St. George's in
the Island of Grenada are to, be acquired
for a Public Purpose.

DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND.
(First Publication).

W HEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945 (No. 3 of
1945), that if the Governor in Council considers
that any land should be acquired for a Public
purpose he may cause a declaration to that effect
to be made :
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Governor
in Council that the land mentioned and described
in the Schedule hereto should be acquired for a
public purpose, to wit, for a public roadway :
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DECLARED by His
Excellency the acting Governor, acting after cor-
,sultation with the Executive Council of the Colony
of Grenada, that upon the second publication of
this Declaration in the Gazette, the land mentioned'
and described in the Schedule hereto shall be ac-
4quired for the above-mentioned purposes and shall
vest absolutely in the Crown:
AND IT IS HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED AND
NOTIFED that a plan of the above mentioned land
may be inspected between-the hours of 9 00 a.m.
and 4.00 p.m. on Monday to Friday and 9.00 a.m.
to 12 noon on Saturday, at the Public Works
Department, Tanteen, in the town of St. George's
in the said Colony.
SCHEDULE.
All that portion of land at Belmont, in the
Parish of St. George in the island of Grenada
bounded on the north by the public highway and
lands of Michael Pilgrim, on the south by lands of
Theresa Taylor and William Cromwell, on the
East by lands of William Cromwell and on the
West by lands of Theresa Taylor.

the plant considerably under capacity.
This will make it necessary between the hours
of 7.00 p.m. and 10.0' p.m. to cut out certain parts
of the system.
This interruption can be brought to a minimum
if the general public will co-operate in the following
respects :-
(1) Do not burn more than the minimum of
lights.
(2) Do not use electrical cooking cr any other
form of electrical power during the hours
of 7.00 p.m.-10.00 p.m.
(3) This is. brought to the special notice of
Churches, meeting places, cafes, bars, etc.,
which normally consume considerable
power.

NOTICE.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
APPRENTICESHIP COURSE.


APPLICATIONS are invited for the four Agri-
cultural Apprenticeships shortly to become,
.vacant in the Department of Agriculture.
2. The course of training will be for a period of
one year, and will commence on the 1st October,
1959. Successful candidates will be required to
reside at:-
Mt. Moritz Agricultural Station-October to
December, 1959.
We;terhall Agricultural Station-January to
March, 1960.
Mt. Horne and Boulogne Cocoa Station-April
to June,. 1960.
In July and August, 1960, Apprentices will be
attached to the Extension Staff of the Department,
and during this period may be required to visit in
any part of the island.
3'. Successful candidates will receive an allow-
ance of one dollar ($1.00) per working day during
the period of the Course, and will be required to
make their own arrangements for board and lodge,
although q iarters may be provided where they
are available.
4. The Government accepts no responsibility for
providing employment to Apprentices on the corn-
petion of their Course.
5. Applicants, who should be between the ages
of 18 and 24, should state age, School or Schools
attended with Standard or Certificate attained,
past and present employment, and emoluments
carried at the present time, experience in agri-
culture and the facilities which they expect will be
available to them for practising agriculture after
their period of Apprenticeship.
6. Applications should be addressed to the
S-uperintendent of Agriculture, Tanteen, St.
George's, and should reach that address not later
than 16th September, 1959. The envelope contain-
ing .the application should be marked Apprentice-
ship" on the outside.
7. Testimonials, which will not be returned,
should accompany the application.

MEDICAL DEPARTMENT (BRITISH GUIANA).

Hospital Secretary, Georgetown Hospital.


A PPOINTMENT-pensionable (age limit 40 years,
on 30th September, 1959, but not appli-
cable to officers already in pensionable Government
service), or on contract for three years initially;
salary on scale $3,696x$144-$4,560/x$240-
$6,720 per annum. Commencing salary according

Vacancies For Quantity Surveyors, Government Of
Trinidad And Tobago.

APPLICATIONS are invited for four (4) posts
of Quantity Surveyor (1 pensionab'e and 3
on contract for three years) in the Government
Service of Trinidad and Tobago with salary in the
scale $6,720-24C-$7,200 per annum; the com-
mencing salary will be determined by the
candidate's experience and qualifications.
2. The appointment is subject to medical fitness
and in the case of the pensionable post will be on
probation for two years.
3. Candidates must be Corporate Members of
the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or


other similar recognized professional body, with at
least seven (7) years' practical experience in
Quantity Surveying.
4. The duties of the posts are to prepare Bills of
Quantities and Specifications for Government
building works; to visit and inspect such works
and to measure variations and extras; to prepare
contract documents and to carry out negotiations
in connection with the settling of builders' accounts.

DEPARTMENT, (BRITISH GUIANA).

Vacancies for Five Mistresses.

Appointment: pensionable (age limit 40 years),
or on contract for three years initially:, salary
scale $3,048-$5,760 per annum. Commencing
salary according to qualifications and/or experience.
Contract appointment carries gratuity of 221%.
2. Qualifications. A Degree from a University
within the British Commonwealth in the subjects
which the persons selected are required to teach.
For some of the posts preference will be given to
candidates with Honours Degrees. A Diploma of
Education and/or experience will be an advantage,

parts of the Registration Examination of the
Library Association and have a thorough knowledge
of Public Library Administration.
3. The salary scale of the post is $2,260.80 x
$115.20-2,491.20 x 129.60-2,880 x 144-$3,024 per
annum. The commencing salary within the salary
scale will depend on the qualifications held by the
applicant.

Radio Technician--Police Department, British Guiana.

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified persons for appointment as Radio
Technician.
2. Appointment and Salary: On contract fir
two years with salary on the scale $3,048x$120-
$3,408/x$144-$3.840 per annum; commencing
salary commensurate with qualifications and/or
experience; a gratuity of 221% of salary is payable.
3. Duties: include maintenance of at least 15
Fixed Stations and 35 Mobile Stations and training
of local personnel in their use and maintenance.
4. Qualifications: Certified ability to under-
take the installation and maintenance of low power
H.F. and V.H.F. radio equipment. Thorough
training in the principles of radio and experience in
the maintenance of H.F & V.H.F. communication
equipment is essential.
5. General Information: Appointment will
be subject to medical fitness and to Colonial
Regulations, General Order-, Stores Regulations,
Financial Regulations and other local regulations
in force from time to time in so far as they are
applicable. A candidate in the West Indies if
successful, would be provided with passages to
British Guiana for himself his wife and children
(if any), not exceeding five persons in all, provided
they either, accompany him to British Guiana or
join him here within twelve months of his departure
for that territory. Children to be under 18 years
of age, unmarried and depend-nt on the officer.
A similar passage concession will be granted at
Government's expenses, for the officer and his
family back to the country from which he was
recruited on satisfactory completion of his contract.

GOVERNMENT MECHANICAL ENGINEER, ANTIGUA.

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitable
qualified persons for appointment as Govern-
ment mechanicall Enginor in the Colony of Antigua.
2. Tae following p irticulars relate to this p 'st -
Appointment: Ihlie post is not pensionable
and will be on contract for a period of three years.
Salary : The salary of the post will be at the
rate of $7,200 per nnnum. If nece-sa.ry a gratuity
at the rate of 12a% cf salary may be offered to
secure a suitable candidate. The gratuity would
be payable on the satisfactory completion of the
contract.
Duties: It is initende. that the holder of the
post will be the Executive officer in the Planning
Unit for the Antigua Government Industiial
Development Programme, and will work directly
under the Ministry of Trade and Production (as


from 1st January, 1960, under Ministry of Finance.)
As such he will be one of the principal advisers to
the Ministry, his field being in Mechanical En-
gineering.
IIe would also advise all Government Depart-
ments, as required, on Mechanical Engineering
equipment and on all projects involving Mechai-
cil engineering equipment.
Qualifi-ations: The candidits should be a
qualified Mechanical Engineer (DIiesel and petrol
engines).

MEDICAL DEPARTMENT, BRITISH GUIANA

Vacancies for Physiotherapists (Female)

APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment as
Physiotherapists (Female), Medical Depart-
ment, British Guiana.
2. Appointment and Salary: On contract
for two or three years with salary on the scale
$3,048-$3,840 per annum commencing salary
commensurate with qualifications and/or ex-
perience : a gratuity of 22'% of salary will be paid
in respect of each completed period of three
months' satisfactory resident service, either at six-
monthly intervals during the period of contract,
or in single lump sum on the conclusion of leave
earned. If the gratuity is paid at six-monthly
intervals, earned vacation leave would not count for
gratuity purposes, engagement, leave will earn
gratuity.
3. Duties: include attending patients referred
by Specialists, Government Medical Officers, and
Registered Medical Practitioners and administering
the necessary treatment in the specialised branches
of physiotherapy, such as massages, medical gym-
nastics and electro-therapy.
4. Qualifications : Membership of the Char-
tered Society of Physiotherapists (M.C.S.P.).
5. Leave and Leave Passages will be granted
in accordance with the General Orders and existing
regulations in force from time to time.
6. General Information : Appointment will be
subject to medical fitness and to Colonial Regula-
tions, General Orders, Stores Regulations, Financial
Regulations, and other local regulations in force
from time to time in so far as they are applicable.
A candidate in the Woet Indies, if successful,
would be provided with passages to British Guiana
and back to the country from which she was re-
cruited, on satisfactory completion of her contract.
Quarters are not provided.
