MORNE ROUGE BEACH CLUB.



EALED tenders are invited for the lease of the
existing Aquatic Club buildings known as the
Morne Rouge Club and the Annex situate on the
Grand Anse Beach for a period of one year
commencing 1st September, 1959, as follows:-
The Aquatic Club: A wooden building, ap-
proximate coverage 5,000 sq. ft. The ground floor
comprises cubicles, water closets, etc, and the first
floor a dancing hall and lounge.
The Annex: A wooden building with ground
floor cubicles and two rooms on the upper floor-
approximate coverage 520 sq. ft.
2. The successful tenderer will be expected to
operate a snack-bar, facilities for night time enter-
tainment and such other attractions as are con-
ducive to tourist development.
3. Payment in respect of this lease must be
made quarterly in advance and the tenancy may
be terminated on three months' notice given in
writing by either party prior to the date of normal
expiration of the lease.
4. Envelopes containing tenders marked Tender
for the lease cf the Morne Rouge Beach Club"
should be addressed to the Chairman, Tenders
Board, and should reach the Treasury not later
than 12 noon on Saturday, 22nd August, 195,9.

IN THE MATTER OF LAND ACQUISITION
ORDINANCE, 1945 (NO. 3 OF 1945).


Notification of Preliminary Survey (under
Section 4 of the Ordinance).


W HEREAS it is enacted .by Section 4 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945 (No. 3 of
1945), that if it appears to the Governor in Council
,that any land is likely to be required for any pur-
pose which, in the opinion of the Governor in
Council, is a public purpose and it is necessary to
make a preliminary survey or other investigation
of the land, he may cause a notification to that
effect to be published in the Gazette :
AND WHEREAS the Governor in Council con-
siders that-
a portion of land at Carriere in the parish of
St. Andrew, in the island of Grenada owned
by the heirs of A. D. -W. Alexander, being in
area approximately 12,000 sq. ft. more or less
and in boundary with the lands recently pur-
chased by Government from the said Estate
for housing and garden lots,
is likely to be required for a public purpose, to wit,
for a public roadway :
AND WHEREAS it is necessary to make a pre-
liminary survey and other investigations of the
said portion of land :


NOW THEREFORE this is to require all persons
interested to allow D. K. SAMUELS, Land Settle-
ment Officer, who has been appointed Authorised
Officer for the purpose (and his agents, assistants
and. workmen) to db all the things authorised by
law.

Librarian, Public Library, Antigua, which
post will become vacant on 1st November, 1959.

THE WEST INDIES.

Vacancy in the Federal Public Service.

APPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
Liaison Officer for Research and Development
of Animal Husbandry, Federal Public Service.
The salary payable will be in the sc le $10,800 x
240 --$12 000 per anrum. Appointment will be on
contract for three yetrs and a gratuity at the rate
of 20% of salary is payable on satisfactory com-
pletion of contract.
Qualifications : A degree in Agriculture or Vet-
erirary Science with post-graduate training and
considerable experience in animal hushbmndry.
Candidates sho:ild have at list 10 ye:rs experience
in research and development of livestock in the
tropics.
Duties :
(i) To familiarise himself within research and
development w.'rk in the animal industry in
the Federal region and elsowher'.
(ii) To travel extensively in the region visiting
the Derartmients of Agricul -'re and other
institutions and orgnisations concerned
with work on livestock.
(iii) To prnvidq a liaison betwo 'n all such
organizations.
(iv) Where necessary to advise and aRsist the
E isern Caribbean and m iiniand telritoties
of the region with their experimental pro-
grammes or their extension services on live-
stock research or development.
(v) To promote the exchange of information
between all concerned in livestock work in
the region and generally to assist the Federal
Agricultural Adviser on all questions of
livestock research and development.
Conditions of Service: A statement of the
general conditions applicalle to this post may be
obtained on application to,, the. Establishment
Officer, Governmi-nt Office.
Applicants should furnish evidence of their ace,
qualifications and experience, a recent testimonial,
and should give the names of two referee. Ap-
plications should be dressedd to the Federal

THE WEST INDIES.

Federal Radio and Television Committee.

THE Federal Government has decided to set up
.1 a committee to review the broad question of
radio and television broadcasting in The West
Indies.
The terms of reference of the Committee will
include :-
(a) the granting of concessions to private
enterprise ;
(b) the nature and content of the programmes
(c) the need for regularising standards of broad-
casting and television ;
(d) the advisability of organising a Federa
Broadcasting and Television system;
(e) the desirability of setting up a permanent
authority to regulate broadcasting and
television throughout The Vest Indies and


to co-ordinate these media and other forms
of telecommunications within the region;
and
(f) the probable moral and social implications
arising from the exploitation of broadcasting
and television.
It is expected that the Committee will begin its
work later this year. Interested bodies and
persons are hereby invited to submit memoranda
upon any or all of the subjects mentioned in its
terms of reference and on any other aspects of
broadcasting and television including the role of
broadcasting in promoting the cultural social and
educational development of the Federation.
Memoranda should be addressed to the Secretary
Radio & Television Broadcasting Committee, c/o
Ministry of Communications & Works, Federal
House, Treasury Street, Port of Spain, Trinidad
in time to reach him not later than 5th September,
1959.

COST OF LIVING INDEX FOR THE MONTH OF JULY, 1959.


The revised Cost-of-Livinr Index for all items for the month of July, 1959, is 104.06, a rise
of 4.06 points over the base figure for June, 1957, taken as 100.
The following table shows the Cost-of-Living Index Figures at the end of each monih up to June,
1957, as compared with the base year August, 1939, taken as 100; as well as the figures in the new
series with the base at June taken as 100:-

Food : There was increases in the retail prices of Blue Margarine, Pigeon and Split Peas which
outweighed a decrea in Cornflour and resulted in a'i increase of (J.1 points over the figure for June,
1959. The group index figure now stands at 104.5.

White Drill and resulted in an increase of 1.1 points over the figure for June, 1959. The group
index figure is now 106.
Fuel and Cleaning: There were no changes in the re'ail prices of the items in this group. Like
-June, 1959, the group index figure remained unchanged at 100.
Drink and Tobacco: There were no changes in the retail prices i i this group. The June
index figure of 100 therefore remained unchanged.
Miscellaneous Goods: There were decreases in the retail prices of Teacups and Saucers and
Dinner Flowered edge Ware Plates wh ch resulted in a decrease of 4 5 points below the figure for June,
1959, and brought the group index figure to 108.
