T is hereby notified for general information that
in future the style to be adopted in addressing
mail to the federating territories of The West
Indies should consist of the name of the Territory
followed by The West Indies ".
2. In the case of both British uiana and
British Honduras the name of the territory alone
will be adequate. In the case of the Virgin Islands,
the address should continue to be simply British
Virgin Islands.

IT is hereby notified for general information that
in pursuance of the powers vested in him under
the Lands Acquisition Ordinance, 1945 (No. ; of
1945), the Governor has been pleased to appoint
Mr. Ralph G. Ogilvie to be the Authorised Officer
for the purpose of the acquisition of the following
lot of Land:-
All that portion of Land situate at Belmont
in the parish of St. George containing by
admeasurement 2,526.5 sq. ft English Statute
Measure reputed to belong to Willemin. Crom-
well and bounded on the North by the Estate
of Jonas Maitland, deceased, on the South and

ORDINANCE, 1945 (NO. 3 OF 1945).

In the matter of a Declaration by the Governor
in Council that certain lands situate in the
Parish of Saint George in the island of
Grenada are to be acquired for a Public
Purpose.

DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND
(First Publication)

WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No. 3 of
1945)that if the Governor-in-Council considers that
any land should be acquired for a Public Purpose
he may cause a declaration to that effect to
be made.
ANr WHEREAS it is considered by the Governor
in Council that the land mentioned and described
in the Schedule hereto shall be acquired for a public
purpose to wit for the erection of a water storage-
tank.
Now THEREFORE IT Is HEREBY DECLARED
by His Excellency the Governor acting after
consultation with the Executive Council of the
Colony of Grenada, that upon the second publici-
tion of this Declaration in the Gazette, the Land
mentioned and described in the Schedule hereto

shall be acquired for the above mentioned purpose
and shall vest absolutely with the Crown.
AND IT Is HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED AND

and 4.00 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and 9.00 a.m.
and 12.00 noon on Saturdays at the Public Works
Department Offices in the town of St. George.

NOTICE.

T is notified for general information that, as
from 23th February, 1958, all restrictions
were removed by the U.K. Government on the
import of sterling notes into the United Kingdom,
i.e.. of notes which are or have been at any time
legal tender in the United Kingdom. The export
restriction of 10 from the United Kingdom, how-
ever, still applies.
2. Sterling notes may now be brought into the
United Kingdom by travellers without limit or
sent for collection from any country. Notes sent
for colleclisn should be despatched at the risk of
the sender to the usual banking correspondents in
the United Kingdom of the sender or of his local
bank.

WEST INDIAN PUBLICATIONS.

T HE attention of the public is invited to The West
Indian Publications Regulations, 158, which
were made on 13th January, 1958, and published in
the Legal supplement of The West Indies Gazette
Volume 1 No. 7.
The regulations require inter alia that, within
one month after publication, one copy of each
West Indian publication be supplied to the
Federal Secretary for the purpose of establishing
and maintaining a Federal library of all West
Indian publications and one copy to the library of
the University College of the West Indies.
A limited number of the supplement is on sel6

ADVERTISEMENT.

Temporary Shorthand Writers for Federal
Legislature.


APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably qual-
ified persons for temporary posts of shorthand
writers for the Federal Houses of Legislature for a
period of from 4 to 8 weeks beginning 15th April,
1958 on the following terms :
(a) Qualifications. Candidates must be able to
take verbatim notes accurately at a rate of
not less than 160 words per minute and will
be expected to produce proof of such ability.
They should preferably be practising high
speed shorthand writers.
(b) Hours of Work. These will depend largely
on the hours of sitting of the Legislature.
The House of Representatives is expected to
sit from 2.30 p m. to 10.30 p.m. daily from
Monday to Thursday. Normal hours of
work may therefore be expected to be from
9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (i.e. half-hour after the
Legislature adjourns) from Monday to
Thursday weekly, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays
with appropriate breaks for meals.
(c) Remuneration. $400.00 for the first month
and $100.00 per week for every week there-
after. Only in respect of persons recruited
from outside of Trinidad and who are not
normally resident in Trinidad, a special
living allowance of $40,00 per week will be
paid. The Federal authorities will assist
such persons to find accommodation in Port-
of-Spain.
(d)' Termination of Employment. One week's
notice by either side at any time after the
expiration of the first 3 weeks.
(e) Duties. Under the general supervision of the
Clerk of the Legislature or his authorised
representative, successful candidates will be
required-to take full verbatim notes of the
entire proceedings of the Legislature for 15
successive minutes in each hour and to
dictate such notes at typing speed directly
to a typist. They will also be required to
take such other shorthand-notes as the clerk
may from time to time direct. (All notes of
proceedings of the Legislature must be typed,
edited by appropriate -officers of the. Leg-
islature, printed and laid within 72-and
occasionally 24-hours of the end of that
day' sittings),


(f) Bond. Successful candidates will be
required to enter into a bond in the sum of
$1)(;.00 for the satisfactory performance of
their duties.
2. Applications stating age and experience and
accompanied by not more than one testimonial
from a recent employer along with the n times of
two referees should be addressed to the Federal
Secretary, Federal Headquarters, \\hitehall, MaIra-
val Road, Pott-of-'Spain, Trinidld so as to reach
him not later than 10th 11larch, 1958.

VACANT POST.

LIBRARIAN-FEDERAL SUPREME COURT.

PPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
Librarian at the Central Registry of the
Federal Supreme Court with salary in the scale
$3,600x 120- $4,090x2 10-$4,800.
Candidates are required to hold :i profPssional
qualification in librarianship with special training
and experience in law libraries.
Candidates having a degree in Arts or Law cr
other special qualifications or experience will be
given special consideration for appointment above
the minimum of the salary scale.
The duties will entail the assembling of a basis
Collection of the leading legal text books and law
reports and the caring for, cataloguing and indexing
of all the books and, of his cwn initiative, improv-
ing and keeping the law library up-to-date.
General Conditions of Service
In the case of persons recruited from outside
Trinidad, quarte-s will be provided at a rental of
10% of salary ; if heavy basic furniture is required
this will be at 5% per annum of the value of the
furniture.
Free passages by the cheapest and most direct
route would be provided on appointment for the
officer, his wife and dependent children, up'to a
maximum of five persons in all.
Vacation leave will be granted at the rate of
45 days per annum.
Leave passages will be provided, net exceeding
the cost of three adult return passages to the
United Kingdom after a minimum tour of not less
than four years.
Free medical attention will not he provided, but
cost of operative treatment, X-ray' examination
and bacteriological set i~a\.eTor. the officer himself
would be met.
Subsistence allowance payable at the approved
rate when travelling on duty.
Applicants should submit one up-to-date testi-
monial and furnish the names of two referees
including if possible one resident in the Caribbean,
to whom they have been known for at least
three years.
Candidates should address their applications to
the Federal Secretary, 29 Maraval Road, Whitehall,
Port of Spain, Trinidad, not later than 31st March,
1958..
Applications from persons already in Govern-
ment Service should be submitted through and
with the approval of their respective Governments.

NOTICE.

APPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
Financial Secretary, Dominica.
Salary: The salary of the post, which is
pensionable, is in the scile $4,320 x 120-35,280
per annum, plus a 20% pay addition, plus $240 p.a.
as Chairman, Income Tax Commissioners, $360
p.a., as Currency Officer and $172.80 per annum
as Naval Reporting Officer. The appointment
carries with it liability to transfer to any post of
equivalent status in the Windward Islands.
Duties : The duties of the post are:-
(i) to advise Government on all financial matters;
(ii) to be responsible for Finance and Fiscal
Policy; Customs and Taxition;
(iii) to perform the duties cf Comptroller of
Customs and Excise: Currency Officer;
Naval Reporting Officer; Chairman. Income
Tax Commissioners; Chairman Agricultural
Loans Board;
(iv) to perform any other duty and render any
further assistance as may be directed. The
holder of the post is an ex-officio Member
of the Executive Council and Legislative
Council and a nominated Member of the
Roseau Town Council.
Qualifications: The officer must be competent
to advise on all aspects of financial policy. He
must be capable of exercising financial control over
all branches of Government Revenue and Expendi-
ture. Preference will be given to a candidate who
has served several years in a senior post in the
Public Service, preferably, in a financial capacity.
Further particulars regarding the appointment
may be obtained from the Chief Secretary, Wind-
ward Islands, Grenada, to whom applications
should be addressed to reach him not later than
the 31st 111arch, 1958.
