WEST INDIAN PUBLICATIONS.

THE attention of the public is invited to The West
Indian Publications Regulations, 1I58, which
were made on 13th January, 1958, and published in
the Legal supplement of The West Indies Gazette
Volume 1 No. 7.
The regulations require inter alia that, within
one month after publication, one copy of each
West Indian publication be supplied to the
Federal Secretary for the purpose of establishing
and maintaining a Federal library of all West
Indian publications and one copy to the library of
the University College of the West Indies.
A limited number of the supplement is on sale
at the Government Office.

IN pursuance of Regulation 4 (2) of the Federal
Supreme Court Regulations, 1958, it is hereby
declared that the Governor of the Windward Is-
lands has consented to the appointment by the
Governor-General of the West Indies of the
Registrar of the Supreme Court of the Windward
Islands and Leeward Islands in the Grenada
Circuit to be a Deputy Registrar of the Federal
Supreme Court.

ADVERTISEMENT.

Temporary Shorthand Writers for Federal
Legislature.

PPLICATIONS are invited from suitably qual-
ified persons for temporary posts of shorthand
writers for the Federal Houses of Legislature for a
period of from 4 to 8 weeks beginning 15th April,
1958 on the following terms :
(a) Qualifications. Candidates must be able to
take verbatim notes accurately at a rate of
not less than 160 words per minute and will
be expected to produce proof of such ability.
They should preferably be practising high
speed shorthand writers.
(b) Hours of Work. These will depend largely
on the hours of sitting of the Legislature.
The House of Representatives is expected to
sit from 2.30 p m. to 10.30 p.m. daily from
Monday to Thursday. Normal hours of
work may therefore be expected to be from
9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (i.e. half-hour after the
Legislature adjourns) from Monday to
Thursday weekly, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays
with appropriate breaks for meals.
*(c) Remuneration. $400.'0 for the first month
and $100.00 per week for every week there-
after. Only in respect of parsons recruited
from outside of Trinidad and who are not
normally resident in Trinidad, a special
living allowance of $40.0' per week will be
paid. The Federal authorities will assist
such persons to find accommodation in Port-
of-Spain.
'(d) Termination of Employment. One week's
notice by either side at any time after the
expiration of the first 3 weeks.
(e) Duties. Under the general supervision of the
Clerk of the Legislature or his authorised
representative, successful candidates will be
required to take full verbltim notes of the
entire proceedings of the Legislature for 15
successive minutes in each hour and to
dictate such notes at typing speed directly
to a typist. They will also be required to
take such other shorthand notes as the clerk
may from time to time direct. (All notes of
proceedings of the Legislature must be typed,
edited by appropriate officers of the Leg-
islature, printed and laid within 72-and
occasionally 24-hours of the end of that
day's sittings).
(f) Bond. Successful candidates will be
required to enter into a bond in the sum of
$100.00 for the satisfactory performance of
their duties.
2. Applications stating age and experience and
accompanied by not more than one testimonial
from a recent employer along with the names of
two referees should be addressed to the Federal


Secretary, Federal Headquarters, Whitehall, Mara-
val Road, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad so as to reach
him not later than 10th March, 1958.


VACANT POST.

LIBRARIAN-FEDERAL SUPREME COURT.

APPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
Librarian at the Central Registry of the
Federal Supreme Court with salary in the scale
$3,600x 120-$4,OO0x240-$4,800.
Candidates are required to hold a professional
qualification in librarianship with special training
and experience in law libraries.
Candidates having a degree in Arts or Law or
other special qualifications or experience will be.
given special consideration for appointment above
the minimum of the salary scale.
The duties will entail the assembling of a basis
Collection of the leading legal text books and law
reports and the caring for, cataloguing and indexing
of all the books and, of his own initiative, improv-
ing and keeping the law library up-to-date.
General Conditions of Service
In the case of persons recruited from outside
Trinidad, quarters will be provided at a rental of
10% of salary; if heavy basic furniture is required
this will be at 5% per annum of the value of the
furniture.
Free passages by the cheapest and most direct
route would be provided on appointment for the
officer, his wife and dependent children, up to a,
maximum of five persons in all.
Vacation leave will be granted at the rate of
45 days per annum.
Leave passages will be provided, not exceeding
the cost of three adult return passages to the
United Kingdom after a minimum tour of not less
than four years.
Free medical attention will not be provided, but
cost of operative treatment, X-ray examination
and bacteriological services for the officer himself
would be met.
Subsistence allowance payable at the approved
rate when travelling on duty.
Applicants should submit one up-to-date testi-
monial and furnish the names of two referees
including if possible one resident in the Caribbean
to whom they have been known for at least
three years.
Candidates should address their applications to
the Federal Secretary, 29 Maraval Road, Whitehall,
Port of Spain, Trinidad, not later than 31st March,
1958.
Applications from persons already in Govern-
ment Service should be submitted through and
with the approval of their respective Governments.
