ORDINANCE, 1945 (No. 3 of 1945)

In the matter of a Declaration by the Governor
in Council that certain lands situate in the
Parish of Saint Andrew in the island of
Grenada are to be acquired for a Public
Purpose.


DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND.
(Second Publication).


WXHEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 145 (No. 3
of 194-), that if the Governor in Council considers
that any land should be acquired for a public
purpose he may cause a declaration to that effect
to be made:
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Governor
in Council that the land mentioned and described
in the Schedule hereto should be acquired for a
public purpose, to wit fcr the erection of a new
Visiting Station:
Now, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DECLARED
by His Excellency the Governor, acting after
consultation with the Executive Council of the
Colony of Grenada, that upon the second publica-
tion of this Declaration in the Gazette, the land
mentioned and described in the Schedule hereto
shall be acquired for the above-mentioned purpose
and shall vest absolutely in the Crown.
AND IT Is HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED
AND NOTIFIED that a plan of the above-mentioned
land may be inspected at all reasonable hours at

the Government Office in the town of Saint George
in the said Colony.

SCHEDULE.

A lof of land situate at Paradise in the parish of
Saint Andrew in the Island of Grenada reputed to
belong to the Estate of one SPENCER GORDON,
deceased, being in area approximately 10,000
square feet, English Statute Measure, and abutted
and bounded on one side by the Paradise Main
Road and on the remaining three sides by other
lands of the Estate of the said SPENCER GORDON,
deceased, or howsoever otherwise the same may
be -abutted, bounded, known, distinguished or
described.

Fulbright Travel Grants.

THE United States Educational Commission in
the United Kingdom announces that, under
the provisions of the Fulbright programme, travel
grants are available to citizens of the United King-
dom and dependent territories to go to the United
States of America for academic or educational
purposes, such as study, research or lecturing. All
awards are competitive and are made by the Board
of Foreign Scholarships in Washington upon the
recommendations of the Commission in London.

NOTICE.

MAINTENANCE OF GOVERNMENT LANDS IN THE
MORNE ROUGE AREA.


TENDERS are invited for the maintenance of
the undermentioned areas of Government
lands in the Morne Rouge Area on a monthly
basis :-
(1) That reclaimed area of land bounded on the
North-West by the Sea, on the South-East
by the Mlain Road to Quarantine Station,
on the South-West by lands occupied by
Windward Islands Broadcasting Station and
on the North-East by area (2).
(2) Approximately 16 acres of land cultivated
in coconuts and bounded on the North-West
by the Sea, on the South-West by area (1)
North-E.ist by area (3) and on the South-
East by Grand Anse Road and part of
Area (1).
(3) Approximately 16 acres at present uncleared
and bounded on the North-West by the Sea,
on the North-East by lands of George


Banfield, on the South-East by Grand Anse
Road and on the South-West by Area (2).
The Contractor should include in his tender for
grass-cutting and clearing, drain-cleaning including
sea heads, clearing of blocks, control of weeds,
undergrowth and defective or overhanging trees,
prevention of grazing, and any other matter
necessary for the proper upkeep of the area except
maintenance of roads and buildings.
The Contract for 1958 will commence on 1st
January, 1958, and may be terminated by one
month's notice on either side.
Tenders should be addressed to the Chairman,
Tenders Board, and should reach him by noon on
Monday 16th December, 1957.
The Government does not bind itself to accept
the lowest or any tender.

Harvesting of Coconut Crop from Government
Lands in the Morne Rouge Area.

T ENDERS are invited for the sole right to har-
vest the coconut crop from the Government
lands in the Morno Rouge Area during the year,
1958. The Contract will be liable to be terminated
by one month's notice on either side.
The Government does not bind itself to accept
the highest or any tender.

the Monetary Restitution Liabilities of
the German Reich and Legal Entities of
Equal Legal Status, of 19th July, 1957.
(Bundesruckerstattungsgesetz).

THIS notice does not purport to give more than
a very general indication of the main purposes
of the above Law, copies of which may be obtained
either from Bundesanzeiger-Verlag G.m.b.H.,
Bonn (Bundesgesetzblatt Sect. 1, No. 32 of 23rd
July, 1957-price 40 pfg. and postage), or from
Interbook Ltd., 12 Fitzroy Street, London, W. 1.
If in doubt, persons interested are advised to con-
sult a lawyer practising in German Law. Advice
may also be obtained from the Federal German
Embassy, 21/23, Belgrave Square, London, S.W.1,
or from any Federal German Consulate, from
whom the necessary application forms and an
explanatory leaflet concerning the submission of
claims may be obtained.
The Law deals only with monetary restitution
liabilities of the former Reich and certain other
specified legal entities. It does not cover physical
restitution of identifiable property. The Law pro-
vides for the filing and satisfaction of claims and

(1) creates certain new categories of monetary
restitution claim ;
(i) in respect of effects-mainly house-
hold effects-of emigrants or intend-
ing emigrants which were seized in-
transit outside the Federal area, and
(ii) by bringing the restitution legisla-
tion applicable to the former French
Zone into line with that of the re-
mainder of the Federal area makes
possible claims for compensatory
payments.
(2) re-opens the filing period for monetary
restitution claims:
Any persons who were entitled under the legisla-
tion for the restitution of identifiable property in
force in the former Western zones of Germany
and Western Sectors of Berlin and who become
entitled under the provisions of the new law to
claim either the restitution of a specific sum of
money or damages for the failure to restore iden-
tifiable property restorable under that legislation
may now file a claim for the payment of such sum
of money or such damages. This applies both
when no claim has been previously filed under the
restitution legislation hitherto in force and when
claims which had been filed were rejected or were
withdrawn or renounced by the claimant.
Claims, including those in respect of categories
now possible for the first time, must be submitted,
in quadruplicate, before the 1st Apiil, 1958 to the
competent Central Filing Agency as under:

to effecting any alternations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulations mide thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrcds, brake connections, shak-
les, bolts, nuts, split-pins, engine, engine shield
and case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil, air
filter, carburettor, and 11 working parts must be
cleaned in order to admit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if used, must be removed before
presentation in order to admit of an examination
being made in full All split pins, etc., must be
clearly exposed, also chassis and engine number.
Drivers' seats must be securely fastened so that
the driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle nust have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures
tiot less than 2i inches in height upon a black
Ground in a conspicuous place on the right or
offside of the vehicle.
The Registered Identification marks on all vehi-
dcles must conform to provisions of Regulations 7,
8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions, No. 35 of 1938, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily distin-
guishable. The attention of owners of Motor
Omnibuses and (oods Vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (11) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed
except with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring cars and
Motor Omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traltic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations, No.
70 of lU'46 which require that printed copies of
the Tarrifs of Maximum Fares be displayed in
such Vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District t1evenue Office, at. 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
to have defects must not Ib used on the roads
until they have been issued with a certificate,
-certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

the University College of the West Indies in
October, 1l58.
A number of open Scholarships, Government
Exhibitions and other awards will be offered in
1958, as a result cf the University College Scholar-
ship Examination which will be held in each
territory from 24th February to 28th February.
Some candidates for entrance only, may also be
asked to write some papers in the Scholarship
Examination.
Candidates may qualify for normal minimum
entrance requirements with
A. Passes in five subjects at the G. C. E. of
which at least two must be passed at
Advanced Level.

B. Passes in four subjects at the G. C. E. of
which at least three must be passed at
Advanced Level.
A credit at the Cambridge School Certificate is
equivalent to an Ordinary Level pass G. C. E. and
a pass at Principal Standard H.C.S. is equivalent

Students wishing to read for an Arts Degree will
be required to have included English and at least
one foreign language at the Ordinary or Advanced
G. C. E. Level, or two foreign languages.

SPPLICATIONS are invited from suitably quali-

pensionable cost of Assistant Master at the Gram-
mar School, St. Kitts, at the beginning of the
Lent Term during 19t-5. Tih officer appointed
thereto will he subject to the Reeniations of Her
Majesty's Colonial Service and to the Laws,
General Orders and Staturory Rules and Orders in
force in the Colony from time to time,
2. The duties of the post carry the responsibility
of teaching English and such other subjects as may
he required by the H eadmaster from time to time
to teach ; and to supervise the Literary and Debat-
ing Society. An interest in games would be useful.
3. The minimum qualification required is a
degree from a University within the British Com-
monwealth.
4. The salary of the post is $2,750.40x 129.(-0-

pointee will receive commencing salary at a point
in the scale commensurate with his qualifications
and experience.
5. An advance of salary not exceeding $1,200,
repayable within a period of three years, may be
granted to the officer for the purposes of purchas-

6. Free passages will be provided for the officer
and also for his wife and not more than three
children under the age of eighteen years who are
unmarried and are dependent upon him, provided
that they accompany him or join him in the Colony
within twelve months of his appointment.
7. Vacation leave will be at the rate of 42 days
per annum. Leave passages will be granted in
accordance with the term- of the General Orders,
