NOTICE.

Tenders, Carriacou Mail and Passenger
Service.

SEALED tenders are invited for the conveyance
of mails, passengers and cargo weekly between
Grenada and Carriacou by auxiliary vessel for the
period 1st January to 31st December, 1958, in
accordance with the schedule given hereunder.
2. The vessels to be used for the service must
..not. be less than 40 tons and must be equipped with
adequate seating accommodation and sanitary
facilities for hot less than thirty (30) passengers,
and with life boats for passengers and crew.
3. All personnel travelling on official business, and
plant ffaterikall livestock, etc. transported on behalf
of Government will be conveyed free of charge.
Suitable space must also be reserved below deck
for the carriage of ice shipped to Carriacou by the
Government's ice contractor, such ice to be trans-
ported free of charge up to a maximum of i1 tons.
4. Tenders should be submitted to the Chairman,
Tenders Board marked "Tenders for the convey-
ance of mails, passengers and cargo between
Grenada and Carriaeou", by noon on 30th
November, 196 7.
5. Government does not bind itself to accept the
lowest or any tender.

SCHEDULE
Service A. Leave Grenada for Carriacou each
Saturday at noon, returning each
Monday at noon, with a trip from
Carriacou to Union Island every
fortnight.
Service B. Leave Grenada on Wednesday for
Carriacou returning on Thursday.
Persons may tender for one or both
of the two services.

NOTICE.

T ENDERS are hereby invited for the exclusive
right for one year from 1st January, 1958,
to sell all Government property which Government
desires to sell, through a licensed auctioneer, at
public auction.
Government will retain the right to sell property
at auction under the provisions of Section 11 and
12 of the Auctioneers Ordinance, 1951, during the
continuance of any contract that may be awarded.
Tenders should be addressed to the Chairman of
the Tenders Board, Treasury Department, St.
George's, and should reach him on or before the
30th day of November, 1957. They should state
percentage rate (or rates) of the prices realized
for which the applicant would be prepared to sell
the various kinds of property entrusted to him, and
should distinguish between cases where a sale is
effected and those where no sale is effected.

NOTICE.

'Tenders for Sale of Ice produced at the Factory

SEALED Tenders are invited for the purchase
of ice from the Government Ice Factory for
sale in each of the six Parishes of Grenada during
the year 1958, on the following terms and con-
ditions:
(i) Purchase price- 76c per block of not less
than 105 lbs.
(ii) Retail price-- St. George's- lo per lb.
Other Parishes 2c per lb.
(iii) Depots- The contractor for St. George's
will be required to establish storage and
resale depots at the Carenage, the Market
Square and Lucas Street. The respective
contractor fcr each of the other parishes
will be required to maintain at least one
depot in the main town of the parish.
(iv) Security- Each contractor will be required
to sign a bond with the Financial Secretary
in the sum cf $3,500 and the contract will
not be binding until the bond is executed.
A person may tender for one parish only or
for any number of parishes.
Tenders should be addressed to the Chair-
man of the Tenders Board, Ft. George's,
marked "Tenders for sale of Ice" and should
reach him not later than the 30th November,
1957.

half-yearly inspection of these vehicles will com-

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then approach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view


to effecting any alternations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938, and of the
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly cl-an
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrods, brake connections, shak-
les, bolts, nuts, split-pins, engine, engine shield
and case, clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil, air
filter, carburettor, and nil working parts must be
cleaned in order to admit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if ised, must be removed before
presentation in order to admit of an examination
being made in full. All split pins, etc must he
clariy exposed, also chassis and engine number.
Drivers' seats must be securely fastened so that
the driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns and whls'les are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures
not less than 2- inches in height upon a black
ground in a conspicuous place on the right or
offside of the vehicle.
The Registered Identification marks on all vehi-
cles must conform to provisions of Regulations 7,
8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions, No. 35 of 1938, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily distin-
guishable. The attention of owners of Motor
Omnibuses and Goods Vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (11) (a) regarding the position of
front, lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed
except with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring cars and
Motor Omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
rf 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Ammedment No. 2) Regulations, No.
70 of 1946 which require that printed copies of
the Tarrifs of Maximum Fares be displayed in
such Vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

Exhibitions and other awards will he offered in
1958, as a result of the University Col'ego Scholar-
ship Examination which will be held in each
territory from 24th February to 28th February.
Some candidates for entrance only may also be
asked to write some papers in the Scholarship
Examination.
Candidates may qualify for normal minimum
entrance requirements with
A, Passes in five subjects at the G. C. E. of
which at least two must be passed at
Advanced Level.

B. Passes in four subjects at the G. C. E. of
which at least three must be passed at
Advanced Level.
A credit at the Cambridge School Certificates is
equivalent to an Ordinary Level pass G. C. E. and
a pass at Principal Standard H. S. C. is equivalent
to a pass at Advanced Level G. U. E.
Students wishing to read for an Arts Degree
will be required to have included English and at
least one foreign language at the Ordinary or
Advanced G. C. E. Level, or two foreign languages.

NOTICE.

Medical Department (British Guiana)-
Vacancy For Senior Melical Officer.



APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably qual-
ified persons for appointment as Senior
Medical Officer, Medical Department, British
Guiana.
2. Appointment and Salary: The post is
pensionable with fixed salary at the rate of $7,203
per annum; but if desired, the appointment may
be on contract for three years in the first instance.
Private and Consulting Practice are not allowed.
Contract appil.tment would carry gratuity
calculated at the rate of 221% of salary for each
co-pleted period of three months' satisfactory
resident service payable either at six-monthly in-
terva's during resident service, or in a single lump
sum on the termination of the contract. In the
latter event only would leave earn gratuity.
3. Duties: To assist the Director cf Medical
Services and the Medical Administration of the
Colony in all matters pertaining to the administra-
tion of the Department, subject to the directions
and instructions cf the Director of M medical Ser-
vices.
4. Qualifications : (1) Degrees or Diplomas
in Medicine and Surgery registrable in the United
Kingdom; and
(ii) at least three years experience as a Medical
Practitioner.
5. Age : For a pensionable appointment, can-
didates should not he over 40 years of age on the
30th November, 1957. This qualification does not
apply to officers already holding pensionable poAts
in Public Service.
6'. medicall Fitness: The successful candidate,
if not already holding a pensionable post in the
Public Service will be required to pass a medical
examination lor admission thereto.
7. Passages on First Appointment: Free
sea passages to the Colony will be provided for
the officer and, if married, his wife and children
(if any) not exceeding four persons besides h-mself,
children to be under 18 years, unmarried, and
dependent upon the officer. This is applicable
only to candidates outside British Guiana.
8. Leave and Leave Passages: Will be
granted in accordance with General Orders and
existing Regulations applicable.
9. Quarters : Quarters are not provided.
10 General Information : Appointment will
be subject to the Colonial Regulations, General
Orders and other local regulations, in force from
time to time. Unless the candidate appointed
already holds i post on the permanent and pens-
ionable establishment of the Public Service,
confirmation in the appointment will be subject to
satisfactory work and conduct during a probation-
ary period of two years.
