to sell all Government property which Government
desires to sell, through a licensed auctioneer, at
public auction.
Government will rc tain the right to sell property
at auction under the provisions of Section 11 and
12 of the Auctioneers Ordinance, 1951, during t'he
continuance of any contract that may be awarded.

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay
inspection fees from now onwards at their respec-
tive District Revenue Offices and then approach
the Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic
Branch, New Fire Station, in advance with a view
to effecting any alternations that may be necessary
to comply with the provisions of the Motor vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1936, and of the
Regulations made thereunder.
Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly clean
condition, and must have been recently overhauled.
The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame, steering
arms, springs, trackrods, brake connections, shak-
les, bolts, nuts, split-pins, engine, engine shield
and case, clutch, gearbox, magne:o or col, air

filter, carburettor, and ill working pirts must be
cleaned in order to admit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if used, must be removed before
presentation in order to admit of an examination
being made in full. All split pins, etc., must be
clearly exposed, also chassis and engine number.
Drivers' seats must be securely fastened so that
the driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures
not less than 21 inches in height upon a black
ground in a conspicuous place on the right or
offside of the vehicle.
The Registered Identification marks on all vehi-
cles must conform to provisions of Regulations 7,
8 and 9 and the Second schedule to the Regula-
tions, No. 35 of 1938, and be in such a condition
as to render each letter or figure readily distin-
guishable. The attention of owners of Motor
Omnibuses and Goods Vehicles is specially directed
to Regulation 23 (11) (a) regarding the position of
front lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed
except with the written approval of the Licensing
Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring cars and
Motor Omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations, No.
70 of 1946 which require that printed copies of
the Tarrifs of Maximum Fares be displayed in
such Vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy.
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

British Caribbean Currency
Bcard

A RUMOUR has been circulated in the Colony
to the effect that, as the result of some
competition, Banks are buying the "security
thread" which forms part of British Caribbean
Currency notes and a number of these security
threads" have been withdrawn from currency notes
and presented to Banks in the belief that they
would be paid for.
The public is hereby warned that Banks are not
paying for "security threads" withdrawn from
currency notes and further that it is an offence to
withdraw the security thread" or otherwise
mutilate or deface a currency note.

NOTICE.

Rifle Range, Queen's Park St. George's.

T is hereby notified for general information that
the Rifle Ringe at Queen's Park, St. George's
will be used for Rifle firing practice on Tuesday
22nd October, 1957, and continuing daily from 7.00
a m. to 12.30 p.m. until further notice.
2. When firing is in progress, and for one hour
beforehand Red Flags will be flown on either side
of the Butts on the D'arbeau Hill. This signal
indicates that it is DANGEROUS to approach or
remain in the vicinity of the Rifle Range, and all
persons frequenting the area are HEREBY
WARNED to keep clear of it, and owners of stock
to remove their animals from it.

POLICE NOTICE.

Licensing of Dogs.

ECTION 38 of the Licences Ordinance, Cap
121, Page 1336, Volume II lays down that-
Any police constable may seize and detain
any animal or article specified in the First Part
of Schedule A hereto for vhich animal or article
he reasonably suspects no licence has been
taken out; and, if no person claims such animal
or article within ten days after notice of such
seizure given by advertisement posted publicly
at the nearest police station in the district in
which the seizure is made, the same shall be
sold at auction at such nearest station in such
manner as the Magistrate may direct.
Provided that the officer in charge of any
police station may kill or caused to be destroy-
ed any dog which has been seized under this
section and the owner of which cannot be
found within ten days after the seizure".
It is hereby notified for general information that
action is being taken to enforce the provisions of
this section particularly in the case of dogs ; there-
fore the public are requested to guide themselves


accordingly, noting that any dog reasonably sus-
pected for which no licence has been taken out,
may be seized and if the owner cannot be found
within ten days after the seizure same may be
killed.

Crab Poisoning Campaign
HE Public is hereby warned that crabs in the
Belmont, Tanteen and Ballast G found areas
in St. George's and Mt. Craven, St. P-trick's will
be poisoned as from 21st October, 1957.
Owners of poultry and livestock are warned to
keep same away from these areas until further
notice.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF THE WEST INDIES

Admission of Undergraduates in
October, 1958.

PPLICATIONS are invited for admission to
the University College of the West Indies in
October 1958.
A number of Open Scholarships, Government
Exhibitions and other awards will be offered in
1958, as a result of the University College Scholar-
ship Examination which will be held in each
territory from 24th February to 28th February.
Some candidates for entrance only may also be
asked to write some papers in the Scholarship
Examination.
Candidates may qualify for normal minimum
entrance requirements with
A. Passes in five subjects at the G. C. E. of
which at least two must be passed at
Advanced Level.
OR
B. Passes in four subjects at the G. C. E. of
which at least three must be passed at
Advanced Level.
A credit at the Cambridge School Certificates is
equivalent to an Ordinary Level pass G. C. E. and
a pass at Principal Standard H. S. C. is equivalent
to a pass at Advanced Level G. 3. E.
Students wishing to read for an Arts Degree
will be required to have included English and at
least one foreign language at the Ordinary or
Advanced G. C. E. Level, or two foreign languages.
Further details about entry requirements,
Faculty Requirements, scholarships available and
an outline of courses, may be found in the appro-
priate pamphlets, which will soon be available
from the Registrar, U. C. W. I., or from the Resi-
dent Tutor, Extra-Mural Studies or the Education
Officer in the territories.

Vacant post of Assistant Peasant
Development Officer, Antigua.

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably quali-
fied persons for appointment to the vacant
post of Assistant Peasant Development Officer in
Antigua. The appointment which will be subject
to medical fitness, will be on 3 years' probation
and will be subject to the Regulations of Her
Majesty's Colonial Service and to the Statutory
Rules and Orders and General Orders in force in
the Colony from time to time. The post is pen-
sionable.
The particulars of the post are as follows :-
Salary: The Salary scale of the pest is $4,320
x 144-$5,181 x 144--$5,760 per annum. Pre-
vious experience will be tilken into account when
assessing the starting salary of the successful can-
didate.
Allowances: Travelling and subsistence al-
lowances are payable in accordance with local
regulations in respect of approved travel on duty.
Quarters: Quarters are not provided.
Passages: In the case of an officer on first
appointment, who is recruited from outside the
Colony free passages will he provided for the officer
and also for his wife and not more than three
children under the ag3 of eighteen who are un-
married and are dependent upon him, provided
that they accompany him or join him in the Colony
within twelve months of his appointment. Officers
transferred from another Colony will be eligible
for passages in accordance with General Orders.
Leave Passages: Leave passages are provided
in accordance with General Orders.
Duties: The duties of the post are to assist
the Peasant Development Officer in the supervision
of peasant agriculture in Antigua, particularly on
Government Land Settlements, to introduce and
supervise the continuance of improved agricultural
practices, and to assist in the control and direction
of the field staff of the Peasant I evelopmnt Sec-
tion of the Department of Agriculture.

NOTICE.

SPPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
-'enior Assistant Master, St. Vincent Gram-
mar School.
Salary : The salary of the post which is
pensionable is in the scale $2,880x120-$3,e00 per
annum, plus a pensionable pay addition of 20%
of salary.
Duties : The Officer will be required to teach
either Mathematics or History and English up to
Cimbridge Higner School Certificate standard, and
to undertake the teaching of general subjects in
the middle and/or lower school as the Headmaster
may direct. He will also be required to assist
witn extra-curricular activities as occasion arises,
and to assist in the preparation of schemes of
work in the principal subject taught by him.
Qualifications: The officer should be a grad-
uate of a recognized University. A Certificate or
Diploma in Education would be an asset.
