Rent: There has been no change recorded in the general level of the agricultural labourers' rents.
Fuel and Cleaning : There was no change in the figures for this class during the period under
review. The increase of 139% on the 1939 prices shown in the figure for 31st \ lay, 1957, remained
unchanged.
Clothing: Information collected from retailers indicated that at 30th June, 1957, the average
level of retail prices of clothing of the kinds generally bought by Agricultural labourers was .9 points
higher than at 31st May, 1957, and 183% higher than at 1939. This increase was due to increases
in the retail prices of Shirts, Gents' Hats and Ladies' Shoes which outweighed a decrease in the retail
price of Gents' Shoes.
All Others : There was an increase in the retail price of Plates and an increase in the cost of
Shoe Repairs and a decrease in the retail price of cutlasses. This resulted in an incrieae of 11 points
on the figure for 31st May, 1957, and 123% on the 1939 prices.
All Items : If the average changes in the cost of all the foregoing items are combined in accord-
ance with their relative importance in the 1939 agricultural labourers' family expenditure, the resultant
general average increase at 30th June, 1957, was 7 points lower than at 31st May, 1957, and 189%
