COMMUNIQUE.

R. E. A. Maynier (B. Sc. Econ.) Permanent
I Secretary, Jamaica has been seconded in
pre-Federal Organisation as Permanent Secretary
Trade and Industry Department.
2. It was decided at Third Meeting S.F.C. that
an early appointment be made to post.
3. Mr. Maynier is in London on leave and at
the request of S.F.C. is carrying out analysis of
proposals for a Common Market and Customs
Union in Europe.
4. Mr. Maynier was born in Cuba, August 20,
1907 and educated at Wolmer's School, Jamaica
College and Toronto University. From October
1943-June 1944 he was Assistant Lecturer in
Political Economy at Toronto. He served in Jam-
aica first 1940 as Statistical Officer to the Compet-
ent Authority. Subsequent career as follows:-
First Class Clerk-Treasury 23rd. October, 1944;
Temporary Assistant Commissioner of Commerce
and Industries--st. July, 1946;
Acting Deputy Commissioner of Commerce and
Industries-2 1st. June, 1948;
Deputy Commissioner of Commerce and Indust-
ries-24th. August, 1948;
Commissioner of Commerce and Industries-
15th. February, 1951;
Permanent Secretary (assigned to the Ministry
of Trade and Industry) 1st. April, 1953;
Assigned as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Development-9th. July, 1956.
5. Mr. Maynier recently attended Conferences in
U. K. and Caribbean Area as delegate or adviser
on trade and economy matters.
6. Mr. Maynier is expected to arrive in Barba-
dos early October to assume duties in pre-Federal
Organisation.

NOTICE.

TrENDERS are invited for the work of building a
1 curved retaining wall in masonry at Parade
on the St. George's road, and hackfiiling to within
one (l) foot of the existing road surface.
The wall will be about one hundred and ten
(110) feet long and varying in height from 11 ft.
6 ins. above ccncrele foundation at the deepest
section to 2 ft. at the shallowest. The wall is to
be built to the standard P. W. D. specification
copies of which may be had from the Public Works
Department.
Interested contractors should be on the site at
9.00 a.m. on Thursday, 12th September, when they
will he shown what is required by the Senior Road
Officer.
Tenders should be addressed to the "Chairman,
Tenders Board," The Treasury, and should reach
him by noon on Wednesday, 16th. September, 1957.

IN THE MATTER OF LAND ACQUISITION
ORDINANCE, 145, (NO. 3 OF 1945).


Notification of Preliminary Survey (under
Section 4 of the Ordinance).


W HEREAS it is enacted by Section 4 of the
Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1945, (No. 3
of 1945) that if it appears to the Governor in
Council that any land is likely to be required for
any purpose which, in the opinion of the Governor
in Council, is a public purpose and it is necessary
to make a preliminary survey or other investiga-
tion of the land, he may cause a notification to
that effect to be published in the Gazette,
AND WHEREAS the Governor in Council con-
siders that-
(1) a portion of land containing 25 acres at
Upper Marli in the Parish of Saint Patrick,
in the Island of Grenada, being part of the
property of Mr. Dudley Ferguson and
others:
(2) a portion of land containing 20 acres at
Poyntzfield, adjacent to St. Patrick's Main
Hoad, in the parish of St. Patrick's, in the
island of (jrenada, being part ot the prop-
erty of .\rs. Bessie Gun-Munro and others;
(3) a portion of land containing 10 acres at
Waltham, within a range of 2 miles of the
town of Victoria, be ing part of the property
of Mr. Norbert Nyack ;
(4) a portion of land containing 10 acres at
Belmont in the neighbourhood of Tivoli
Roman Catholic Church, and contiguous
with St. Andrew's Main Road to the North-
West in the Parish of Saint Andrew in the
island of Grenada, being part of the pro-
perty of Mr. Norbert Nyack;
(5) a portion of land containing 10 acres at
Mirabeau, south of the junction of the
Mirabeau-Mt. tHorre Road with the St.
Cloud's-Cherry Hill Road and East of the

away any standing crop, fence, tree or
bush;
(g) to do all such other acts as may be inci-
dental to, or necessary for, any of ttie
purposes aforesaid.

Claims in respect of vested German
assets in Japan.


THE Tripartite Commission, representing the
Governments of France, the United Kingdom
and the United States of America who under the
provisions of Article 20 of the Treaty of Peace
with Japan are charged with the disposition of the
former German assets in Japan which have been
vested in the Commission, hereby gives notice that
it will receive, as a matter of grace, claims in res-
pect of such vested assets from persons, other than
those specified below, who can prove that they
have a beneficial interest in such property.
Excluded persons are:
(a) German nationals who resided in Germany
during the period 1139-1918 except persons
subject to persecutions.
(b) German nationals who resided in Japan
during the war and who were repatriated to
Germany by or ler of the Supreme Com-
mander for the Allied Powers.
c) German nationals who resided in countries
other than Germ-ny or Jap:an during the
war and who eitherr were subjected to res-
trictions of personal liberty as enemy
nationals or whose property in the country
in which they resided has been vested by
the government of the country.
(d) Juridical persons organized under German
law or registered as German in any German
Embassy or Consulate.
(e) Japanese Juridicial persons owned or con-
trolled by (a) to (d).
2. Claims by persons who have already submitted
claims in respect of vested assets to the Supreme
Commander for the Allied Powers or to the Tri-
pratite Commission will not be entertained unless
new and cogent evidence is produced.

NOTICE

Post of Cane-Farming Officer, Grenada.

PPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to
the post of Cane-Farming Officer in the
Department of Agriculture, Grenada.
2. The salary of the post which is non-pension-
able is at the rate of $2,520 per annum in the scale
$2,016 x 96-$2,400 x 120-$2,880 (plus 20 per
cent pay addition). In addition a transport allow-
ance of $1,140 per annum is payable provided the
Officer keeps and maintains a motor car for the
performance of his official duties.

Vacant Post of Regional Librarian (South),
Trinidad and Tobago.

A PPLIC.\TONS are iuvited from suitably
qualified persons for appointment to the
vacant post of Regional Librarian (South) in the
Central Library Services, Trinidad and Tcbago.
The appointment which will be subject to medical
fitness will be on 2 years' probation, and will be
subject to the Colonlal Regulations and the Local
Civil Service Regulations and Instructions in force
for the time being. The post is not pensionable,
but steps will be taken to declare it pension-ible in
due course.
2. The salary scale is $3,840-$4,320 per annum.
A temporary Cost of Living Allowance is payable
at the rates in force from time to time. A com-
mencing salary above the minimum will depend on
the candidate's qualifications and experience.
3. The duties of the post will include the
organisation and maint' nane of the Central Lib-
rary Service in the South and of the Carnegie Free
Library, *an Fernando, (under the supervision of
the Librarian, Central Library).
4. Qualifications required are fellowship of the
Library Association or a degree of a recognized
Universary with appropriate qualifications and
experience in Librarianship. ( consideration will
also be given to candidates who have passed some
parts of the Final Examination of the Library
Association and who have the type of experience
required for the post.
5. The successful candidate will be required to
work in San Fernando in the first instance. Quar-

Post of Assistant Staff Surveyor, Lands And

Survey Department, St. Lucia.


PPLI CATION S are invited from suitably quali-
fied persons for appointment to the vacant
post of Assistant Staff purveyor, Lands & Survey
Department, St. Lucia.
Appointment : The post, which is permanent
and pensionable, carries a salary scale of $1,992 x
120-$2,592 per annum, together with a pension-
able pay addition of 20 per cent. The point of
entry into the scale will be determined according to
the candidate's qualification and experience.
Qualifications : The applicant should be a
qualified Lan:l Surveyor having passed an examina-
tion required by the LIaw in force in any place in
Her Majesty's l)ominions to qualify him to prac-
tise as a Land Surveyor in that plaia The post
requires active responsible persons capable of act-
ing on their own,
Duties : The successful applicant will le ex-
pected to undertake cadastral surveys, surveys
covering the demarcation of ( rown Lands, the lay
out of housing schemes, etc. general engineering
and topographic surveys and iny other duties
assigned to him by the Superintendent of Lands
and Survey to whom he will he immediately res-
ponsible for the satisfactory performance of his
duties.
Quarters: Quarters are not provided.
Passages : Passages to St. Lucia will be pro-
vided for the officer, his wife and children not
exceeding five persons in all ; children should be
under the age of 18 years, unmarried, and depen-
dent upon the officer.
Leave : Vacation leave on full salary may be
earned at the rate of 36 days per annum in respect
of officers receiving salary up to $2,300 per annum
accumulating to a maximum of 144 days. The
rate alters to 45 days per annum accumulating to
a maximum of 180 days in respect of officers re-
ceiving salary in excess of $2,300 per annum.
General Information : The officer will be
liable to taxation imposed by local legislation and
will also be liable to transfer to any other post of
similar status within the Windward Islands. He
will be subject to Colonial Regulations and local
General Orders in force in the Colony from time
to time.

Department of Science and Agriculture.

PPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
A1 Chief Agricultural I'.xtension Officer in the
Department of Science and Agriculture, Barbados.
2. The post is pensionable and the salary is in

consideration. Entry into the salary sale will be

The point of entry into the scale will be determined
according to the candidate's qualifications and

ion. Knowledge of the elements of bh)ok-keeping
and accountancy and experience of the routine of a
