NOTICE.

POST OF CO-OPERATIVES OFFICER,
GRENADA.

APPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
Co-operatives Officer in the Co-operatives
Department, Grenada, particulars of which are as
follows:-
Salary: The salary of the post will be in the
scale $2,016 x 96-$2,400 x 120-$2.980 together with
20% increase of salary. The post is pensionable.
Allowances : A tr sport allowance at the rate
of $912 per annum will also be payable.
Quarters : Quarters are not provided. Should
Government quarters become available at any time
rental would be charged at the rate of 10% of salary
or 5% of the assessed value of the quarters, which-
ever is less.
Duties : The duties of the officer will be to assist
the Registrar of Co-operatives in the promotion,
supervision and guidance of Co-operative Societies,
He would particularly be concerned with producers-
and marketing co-operatives.
Age : The officer should, if possible, b- between
the ages of 25 and 35.
Qualifications : Candidates should posses the
School Certificate or have a gcod fundamental
education.
Agricultural training at an approved institution
would also be a pre-requisite.

POLICE TRAFFIC NOTICE.

ROAD CLOSED.

THE Birchgrove-Grand Bras Road will be closed
to vehicular traffic between, the Bylands and
the Grand Bras junctions from 6 a. m. 29th July.
1957, to 4 p. in. 24th August, 1957, for the purpose
of allowing (P. W. D.) Public Works Department
repairs to the L'Esterre bridge, under section 79 of
the Motor vehicles and Road Traffic Ordinance,
1938.
Motorists wishing to travel from Birchgrove to
Grenville may do so through the St. James road.
Motorists wishing to travel to North St. Andrew's
or St. Patrick's may do so through the Bylands
road.

AGRICULTURE.

Apprenticeship Scheme.

A PLICATIONS are invited for the four Agri-
cultural Apprenticeships shortly to become
vacant in the Department of Agriculture.
2. The course of training will be for a period of
one year, commencing on the 1st October, 1957.
Successful candidates will be required to reside at:
Mt. Moritz Agricultural Station-October to
December 1957.
Westehball Agricultual Station-January to
March 1958.
Mt. Horne and Boulogne Cocoa Stations-
April to June 1958.
In July and August 1958 Apprentices will be
attached to the Extension Staff of the Department,
and during this period may be required to work in
any part of the Island.
3. Successful candidates will receive an allow-
ance of one Dollar ($1.00) per working day during
the period of the Course, and will be required to
make their own arrangements for board and lodge,
although quarters may be provided where they are
available
4. The Government accepts no responsibility
for providing employment to Apprentices on the
completion of their Course.
5. Applicants, should be between the ages of 18
and 24 should state age, School or Schools attended
with Standard or Certificate attained, past and
present employment, and emoluments earned at
the present time, experience in agriculture and the
facilities which they expect will be available to them
for practising agriculture after their period of Ap-
prenticeship.


6. Applications should be addressed to the
Superintendent of Agriculture, Tanteen, St.
George's and should reach that address not later
than 31st August, 1957.
The envelope containing the application should
be marked "Apprenticeship" on the outside.
7. Testimonials which will not be returned
should accompany the application.

1. A Resolution giving Notice of a Decision to
Zone an Area within the Parish of St. George.
That is to say :-
The Town of St. George inclusive of an
,rea of two miles inland (as the crow flies)
outside the limits of the said town.
2. Prohibition of the Development of Laod
(Erection of New Buildings, Alteration to,
Extensive Repair or Renewal of, Building
within the Area Specified in the Resolution.
The Public is hereby notified that these Regula-
tions are to he observed, and that persons who
erect buildings within the zone, without reference
to the Central Authority or who in any way in-
fringe these Regulations would be prosecuted.

Post of Engineering Assistant, Public Works
Department, Grenada, B. W. I.

PPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified persons for appointment to the post
of Engineering assistant, Public. Works Depart-
ment, Grenada, B. W. I.
Appointment: The post which is permanent
and pensionable, carries a salary scale of $2,880 x


$120-$3,840 per annum, together with a pension-
able pay addition of 20 per cent at all -tages of
salary. The point of entry into the scale will be
determined according to the candidate's qualification
and experience.
Qualifications : Applications from qualified
civil or structural engineers will be given priority,
but other applicants must produce evidence to show
that they have the basic knowledge and experience
to carry out satisfactorily the duties which they
will be called upon to perform.
Duties : The successful applicant will be ex-
pected to design structures in steel, reinforced
concrete and timber, and prepare working d-awings
of such structures. His duties will include the
preparation of all kinds of civil engineering works
being carried out by contract or by direct labour.
He will be expected to exercise rigid financial
control over such projects. He will also be re-
quired to perform such other duties as may be
assigned to him by the Superintendent of Public
Works.
Quarters: Quarters are not provided.
Passages: Free fist c!ass passages to Grenada
will be provided for the Offi-er, his wife and
children not exceeding five persons in all; children
should be under 18 years of age, unmarried and
dependent on the officer.
Leave and Leave Passages : Vacation leave
on full salary will be grant d at the rate of 45 days
per annum, and may be accumulated up to a
maximum period of 180 days.
Leave passages will be provided in accordance
with local regulations.
Medical Attention : Free medical attention
and medicines are not provided.
Taxation : All Government officers are liable
to taxation imposed by local legislation.

Vacant Posts Of Staff Nurse, Health
Department (Tuberculosis Division.)

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO.

PPLICATIONS are invited for appointment
as Staff Nur.es in the Tuberculosis Division
of the Health Department, Trinidad and Tobogo.
2. Appointment is subject to medical fitness, on
agreement for two years in the first instance with
salary in the scale $900 x 60-$1,2G0 x 120-
$1,560 per annum, plus cost of living allowance,
with effect from the date of assumption of duty.
A commencing salary above the minimum of the
sca:e may be paid on the basis of one increment
for each year of approved post graduate experience
with retrospective effect from the date of assum-
tion of duty after six (6) months' satisfactory

3. Hostel accommodation, including free meals,
free uniforms, and free laundering of uniforms is
provided. Vacation leave, sic!: leave and local
leave will also be granted in accordance with the
provisions of the local Civil Service Leave Regu-
lations.
4. Candidates must be in possession of a Certi-
ficate in General Nursing or an equivalent or
superior certificate, and should be between 23 and
40 years of age. Preference.will be given to can-
didates with experience in tuberculosis work.

Agricultural Officer (Extension)
Department of Agriculture, St. Vincent.



PPLICATIONS are invited from suitably quali-
fied candidates for appointment to the post
of Agricultural Officer (Extension), Department of
Agriculture, St. Vincent, particulars of which are
as follows :-
Appointment: The post is pensionable, but
the appointment will be on a contractural basis or
on secondment, for a period of 2 years in the first
instance. The pension rights of any pensionable
seconded officer will be preserved.
Duties : The duties of the officer will be those
assigned to him by the Superintendent of Agricul-
ture to whom he will be directly responsible. Such
duties will include the direction of Agricultural
Extension and soil Conservation programmes, as
welLas general work of an administrative nature.


Qualifications: The minimum qualification
required is the Diploma of the Imperial College of
Tropical Agriculture or an equivalent degree, with
experience in Tropical Agriculture. General ad-
ministrative experience and knowledge of extension
work would be advantageous.
Salary: The salary is in the scale $3,360 x
$120-$4,320, plus a pay addition of 20% of salary.
Allowances : Travelling a n d Subsistence
Allowances are payable in accordance with local
regulations, in respect of approved travel on duty.
Quarters: Quarters are not provided.
Passages: Free passages to St. Vincent will
be provided on first appointment for the officer, his
wife and children, not exceeding five persons in all;
Children to be under 18 years of age, unmarried
and dependent on the officer. In the case of a
contract appointment or appointment on second-
ment free passages will be provided on the satis-
factory termination of the contract or secondment.
Leave and Leave Passages: Vacation leave
on full salary will be granted in accordance with
local leave regulations. In the case of a contract
appointment, vacation leave will be granted at the
rate of one week for each completed period of three
months resident service. Such leave to be taken
on the satisfactory termination of the contract.
Leave passages are provided in accordance with
the Windward Islands Leave Passage Regulations.
Medical Attention: Free medical attention
and medicines are not provided.
Taxation : All Government officials are liable
to taxation imposed by local enactments.
General: The officer will be subject to the
Colonial Regulations, local General Orders, and
Financial and Store Rules and Subsidiary legisla-
tion in force for the time being.

Trinidad and Tobago.

Qualified persons for appointment to a post
of Assistant Government Chemist in the Govern-
ment Chemists Department, Trinidad and Tobago.
Salary: $3,60C x 120-4,320 x 240-$6,000 per
annum.
Duties: Mainly analytical and supervisory.
The work is varied and interesting and consists of
the analysis of food and drugs and commercial
samples, forensic and toxicological analysis, train-
ing of junior personnel, and such other duties as
directed by the Government Chemist.
Qualifications: Applicants should possess an
honours degree in Chemistry of the Fellowship of
Associateship of the Royal Institute of Chemistry
or other equivalent qualifications.
