Applications for Scholarships under the
Caribbean Vocational. Training,
Scheme, 1Y57.

TiHE Grenada Government has been informed
Sof the arrangements proposed by the Foreign
Operations Administration of the United States
of America for the consideration of applications
for vocational training in Puerto Rico in 1957.
Foreign Operations Administration are particularly
anxious to assist .those territories which lack
vocational training facilities locally.
A limited number of applications-,from the
British Caribbean territories will be considered.
It should be noted that facilities are offered
under the Scheme for 1957 in institutions in Puerto
Rico other than the Metropolitan Vocational
Many of the courses have been planned to last
one year but others will be of shorter or longer
duration depending on the needs of the trainees
Applications will be considered from persons
between the ages of 17 and 35 years only and

Appointment of Regional Agricultural Econo-
mist to work oi inter-territorial trade
on foodstuffs.

N Agricultural Economist is required imme-
diately to carry on an existing project for
investigation of the present and potential food
production and consumption in the British West
Indies. Minimum qualificationrs:-
A degree in Agricultural Economics with 2 years
Post-graduate training preferably in Field Market-
ing and Statistics. Practical experience in Field
of production Economics would be an advantage.
Salary will be fixed according to qualifications
and experience within range of ;1250 to /2100.
The selected candidate will initially be based at
Barbados and subsistence allowance will be payable
for travelling on duty elsewhere. The appointment
will be.on contract for a period concluding 31st
March, 1960.

Post Of Assistant Legal Draftsman, Attorney
General's Department, Barbados.

PPIACATIONS are invited for appointment to
the above:post. -. :,
Appointment and Salary: The post is pens-
ionable with Salary in the scale $4,560 x 192-
5,520 x 240 6,240. Appointment will be subject
to medical fitness and a probationary period of
two years. Salary is subject to deduction at the
rate of %"' jer fin nin under the widows' and
orphans' Pension -chemnb.
Qualifications : Each applicant should be a
qualified Bai rister-atf-Law or Solicitor preferably
with some experience of drafting of legislation.
Duties: The duties of the officer will consist
of drafting of legislation, giving legal opinions and
advice to Government Departments, conducting
cases in court, including criminal prosecutions,
and, slch other legal work as may be required
from time to time.
Quarters: No quarters are provided.
Passages: Passage expenses of officer and
family are payabhe on appointment upp to a maxi-
mum of $1,920. Leave passages are payable
every three and a half yenrs in accordance with
the Civil Establishmient (Leave Passages) Order
Leave: Leave is granted in accordance with"
Local regulations.

APPLICATIONS are invited from single women
between the ages of 19 and 30 years for tihe
post of Woman Police Officer 'in the Grenada
Police Force. All applications must be in the
hand-writing of the applicant. Following condit-
ionis of service will apply.
(i) Salary will be in the scale of $672 x $24
(ii). Post is pensionable.
(iii) Free uniform will be provided.
(i r) Quarters are not provided but a Rent-in-Aid
Al!owance is being considered.
(v) Free Medical and Dental treatment is

Qualified candidates for appointment to the
post of Senior Draughtsman, Windward Islands,
particulars of which are as follows :
Appointment : 'The post is non-pensionable, and
appointment will be on a temporary contractual
basis for a period of 18 months in the first in-
stance. The officer will be subject to the Colonial
Regulations and the local General Orders for the
time being in force, so far as they are applicable.
The officer will be a member of the staff of the
Executive Architect, Windward Islands, and will
be stationed in St. Lucia.
Qualifications: Applicants should have had at
least 5 years experience of work usually under-
taken by an Architect's Office and be thoroughly
conversant with the preparation of working draw-
ings and specifications.
Salary : The Salary will he at the rate $3,360
(700) per annum in tie scale ::;.iP'i x$120-
$3,600 (700 x 25-750) per annum, plus,a pay
addition of 20% of salary.
Quarters : Quarters are not provided.
Passages: Free passages to St. Lucia will be

provided for the officer, his wife and children, not
exceeding 5 persons in all; children to be rnder 18
years of age, unmarried, and dependent on the
officer. Free return passages will also be provided
on the satisfactory termination of the period of
Leave: Vacation leave on full salary will be
granted at the rate of one week for each completed
period of 3 months resident service. 'uch leave
to be taken on the satisfactory termination of the
officer's contract.
Medical Attention : Free medical attention
and medicines are not provided.
Taxation : All Government officers are liable
to taxation imposed by local legislation.
Applications giving full particulars of applicants'
qualifications and experience, and accompanied by
two testimonials, should be addressed to the Chief
Secretary, Windward Islands, Grenada, and should
reach him not later than the 31st Jury, 1957.



General Certificate of Education.

THIS examination will be held in November-
December of this year. The entry fee for a
subject at Ordinary Level will be ten shillings and
for a subject at Advanced Level one pound.
Besides the above, a local fee of Four Dollars
must be paid into the Treasury and forwarded
with the application for entry. Candifiates taking
a Science subject requiring a practical examination
must pay an additional Four Dollars for each
Candidates must take the full number of six
subjects except they have passed the Cambridge
School Certificate Examination.
The closing d ite for entries to be received for
the November Examination is 31st July, 1957.

PPLICATION'S are invited from suitably
qualified candidates for appointment to the
post of Director of Works, Dominica, particulars
of which are as follows:-
1. Appointment: The post is on the per-
manent ard pensionable establishment and the
appointment carries with it the liability to transfer
to any post of equivalent status within the Wind-
ward Islands. An appointment may, however, be
made on a temporary non-pensionable contractual
basis for a period of 3 years in the first instance.
2. Salary: The salary is in the scale 1,300 x
25-1,500 per annum.
3. Allowances : Transport nnd subsistence
allowances are payable in accordance with local
regulations in respect of approved travel on duty.
4. Duties: The officer will be responsible for
the administration of the Public Works Depart-



ment and for the planning and execution of Public
Works development schemes as well as the general
supervision of all aspects of the department's
work. By virtue of his office the officer is a
member of various Boards and Committees. He
will also be required to perform such other duties
as may from time to time be assigned to him by
the Administrator.
5. Qualifications: The officer must be a
Corporate Member of the Institute of Civil
Engineers, or hold some qualification of equivalent
status and should have good administrative ex-
perience and ability.
6. Quarters : Quarters are not provided.
Should Government quarters become available at
any time rental would be charged at the rate of
10% of salary or 5% of the assessed value of the
quarters, whichever is less.
7. Passages: Free passages to Dominica will
be provided on first appointment for the officer,
his wife and children, not exceeding five persons
in all. Children to be under 18 years of age, un-
married and dependent on the officer. In the case
of a contract appointment free return passages

will be provided on the satisfactory completion of
the contract.
8. Leave & Leave Passages: Vacation leave
will be granted at the rate of 45 days for each
completed period of 12 months resident service
and may be accumulated up to a maximum of
180 d'ys. In the case of a contract appointment,
vacation leave will be granted at the rate of 1 week
for each completed period of 3 months resident
service; such leave to be taken on the satisfactory
completion of the period cf engagement. Leave
passages are provided in accordance with the
Windward Islands Leave Passage Regulations.
9. General Information: The officer will be
liable to all taxation imposed by local enactments.
He will also be subject to the Colonial Regulations,
local General Orders, and Financial and Store
Rules and subsidiary legislation In force for the
time being.
