SY virtue of the power and authority in me vested by WINDWARD ISLANDS LETTERS
PATENT bearing date at WESTMINSTER the twenty-seventh day of August, One
thousand nine hundred and fifty-one; I do by this Commission under the Public Seal
of the Island of GRENADA appoint you the said Louis COOLS-LARTIGUE, Officer of the
Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Chief Secretary, Windward islands
to be my Deputy within the said WINDWARD ISLANDS from on or about the 2nd
day of May, One thousand nine hundred and fifty-seven and until further orders,
and in that capacity should the necessity arise for so doing, to exercise, perform and
execute for and on behalf of the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the WINDWARD
ISLANDS during the period recited, but no longer, all things that belong to the office
of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the WINDWARD ISLANDS according to the
tenor of such Letters Patent already recited or in other Letters Patent adding to,
amending or substituting for the same; and subject to the Royal Instructions and
other Instructions passed under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet to the Governor
and Commander-in-Chief of the said WINDWARD ISLANDS of GRENADA, SAINT VINCENT,
SAINT LUCIA and DOMINICA, and their Dependencies and during Her Majesty's pleasure :
II. AND I DO HEREBY DIRECT that you the said Louis COOLS-LARTIGUE, shall not
continue to act as Governor's Deputy after the Acting Governor has arrived at
Grenada or some other Officer having a prior right so to act or to administer the
Government of the WINDWARD ISLANDS has notified that he is about to assume it:

Officers, Civil, Military, Naval, Air and otherwise, and all others the inhabitants of the
said WINDWARD ISLANDS and all others whom it may concern to take due notice thereof

NOTICE.

FEDERAL GERMANY COMPENSATION LAW.

A law amending and changing the title of the
Supplementary Federal Law for the Com-
pensation of Victims of Nazi persecution of 21st
September, 1953 (Bundeserganzungsgesetz) was
promulgated in the Bundesgesetzblatt Pt. I, page
559 of 29th June, 1956.
Under the revised law eligibility for compen-
sation has been extended in some respects and
compensation increased in certain cases. Claims
must be filed with the competent Federal German
Compensation Office before the 1st October, 1957.
Copies of the law may be obtained from the
Bundesanzeiger-Ver-elags-G.m.b.H., Bonn/Koln
(Koln 1, Postfach) or from Inter-book Limited,
12, Fitzroy Street, London, \V. 1.
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of
Germany 21-23, Belgrave Square, S.\V.1., is
also prepared to supply information and applica-
tion forms.

GRENADA AGRICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP


PPLICATIONS are invited for the award of
San Agricultural Scholarship tenable at the
Imperial College of Tropical Agricvlture for a
period of three ears, beginning about October,
1957.
Applicants should submit the following parti-
culars :
(a) Birth Certificate;
(h) Evidence of attendance at a school in this
colony for NOT LESS THAN THREE
YEARS preceding the application;
(c) Testimonials from two persons other than
school teachers under whom education
was received;
(d) Testimonials from Head Teachers of the
schools in the colony which they have
attended giving all significant details of
school career ?
(e) School Leaving Certificate of the University
of Cambridge Examinations Syndicate, or
an equivalent examining body showing
that the applicant has passed in one or
more subjects of the Science Group;
(f) A Certificate of fitness from a Medical
Officer;
(q) Evidence of I-ritish Nationality.
Applications will be considered by the Scholar-
ship Selection Committee after which nominations
will be submitted to the Governor in Council for
the final award.
Applications must be submitted to the Admini-
strator, Grenada, not later than 10th May, 1957.

NOTICE.

TIE PUBLIC IS HEREBY NOTIFIED that
all Applicants for passports will ordinarily be
required to present a Birth Certificate on which
the name of the applicant appears when submitting
applications for examination by the Police.
2. Any Birth Certificate in which the name or
the assured name of the Applicant does not appear
must be supported by a Baptismal Certificate
and an Aflidavit showing that the Applicant is the
person referred to in both the Birth Certificate
and Baptismal Certificate. Where the Baptismal
Certificate cannot he obtained an Affidavit depos-
ing to this fact as well as to the date of birth and
the name of the Applicant must be submitted.
3. All such Affidavits must be duly stamped and
sworn to before either a Magistrate, .Justice of the
Peace or Registrar by the Applicants' father or
mother (if alive) or guardian or close relative.
The Affidavit must bear $1.00 stamp and an
additional 40 cuts on each exhibit or document
exhibited and referred to therein.

Channel (commonly known as outer-north- Reef
Buoy) about 4600 feet 116' from Customs House
Grenville is missing, but will be replaced as soon
as possible.

NOTICE.

THE public are hereby notified that due to the
dry season a water shortage now exists in the
St. George's, St. Paul's, Morne Jaloux, Piedmon-
temps, Belmont and Grand Anse areas.
Owners of motor vehicles are therefore asked to
desist from using pipe borne water for washing
their cars, buses, etc.
The co-cperation of householders is requested
in an effort to conserve the general supply by
avoiding all waste and careless use of water for
domestic purposes in kitchens, baths etc, and com-
plete cessation of watering gardens.

PPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified candidates for appointment to the
post of Agricultural Officer (Research) Camden
Park Experimental Station, Department of Agri-
culture, St. Vincent, particulars of which are as
follows: -
Appointment: The post is non-pensionable
and the appointment will be on a contractual basis,
or on secondment, for a period of ^ years in the
first instance. The pension rights of any pension-
able seconded officer will be preserved.
Duties : The duties of the office will be those
assigned to him by the Superintendent of Agricul-
ture to whom he will he directly responsible. The
duties will include the general administration of
the 100 acre Canmden Park Experiment Station
with the direction and supervision of subordinate
staff. Investigational work with all aspects of
cultivation and testing of a wide range of cash
crops and food crops and the compiling of the
necessary statistics. Supervision of the manage-
ment of Livestock, comprising breeding stock of
cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and poultry on the Station.
Qualifications: The minimum qualification
required is the Diploma of the Imperial College
of Tropical Agricultnre or an equivalent degree,
with experience in Tropical Agriculture. General
administration experience and knowledge of applied
research and extension work would be advantageous.
Salary: The salary is in the scale $3,360 x
$120-$4,320, plus a pay addition of 20% of salary.
Allowances: Travelling and Subsistence Al-
lowances are payable in accordance with local regu-
lations, in respect of approved travel on duty
Quarters: Quarters are provided at the Station
for which rental will be charged at the rate of 10%
of salary or 5% of the assessed value of the quar-
ters, whichever is less.
Passages : Free passages to St. Vincent will
;be provided on first appointment for the Officer,
his wife and children, not exceeding five persons in
all; Children to be under 18 years of age, unmar-
ried and dependent on the officer. In the case of a
contract appointment, free passages will be provid-
ed on the satisfactory termination of the contract.
Leave and Leave Passages: Vacation leave
on full salary will be granted in accordance with
local leave regulations. In the case of a contract
appointment, vacation leave will be granted at the
rate of one week for each completed period of three
months resident service. Such leave to be taken
on the satisfactory termination of the contract.
Leave passages are provided in accordance with
the Windward Islands Leave Passage Regulations.
Medical Attention: Free medical attention
and medicines are not provided.
Taxation: All Government officials are liable
to taxation imposed by local enactments.
General: The officer will be subject to the
Colonial Regulations, local General Orders, and
Financial and Store Rules and Subsidiary Legisla-
tion in force for the time being.
Applications giving full particulars of applicant,
,d accompanied by two testimonials, should be
addressed to the Chief Secretary, Windward Is-
lands, Grenada, and should reach him not later
than the 31st May, 1957.

NOTICE.

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
(qualified candidates preferably bachelors, for
appointment to the post of Supernumerary Veteri-
nary Officer for Grenada, St. Lucia, and St. Vin-
.cent, particulars of which are as follows:--
Appointment: The post is at present non-
pensionable. The officer will be subject to the
,Colonial Regulations, local Genernl Orders, Finan-
-cial and Store Rules and all such regulations, as
may from time to time be in force.
Salary: The salary is in the scale $3,840 x
120- $4,800 (800 x i5--l,000) per annum, plus
a pay addition of 20% of salary.
Allowances: Travelling and Subsistence al-
lowances will be payable in accordance with local
regulations in respect of approved travel on dcEty.
Quarters : Quarters are not provided, but in
the event of Government quarters being available
the officer will be required to pay rental not exceed-
ing 10%' of his salary.
Leave and Leave Passages : Vacation leave
will be granted at the rate of 45 days for each
.completed period of 12 months resident service,
.accumulable up to 180 days.
Leave passages will be granted in accordance
with local regulations.
Passages: Free passages to the Windward
Islands will be provided for the officer and, if
married, his iife and children not exceeding 5
persons in all; children to he under 18 years of
age, unmarried and dependent on the officer.
Duties: The otficef vill have his headquarters
in Grenadal but will be required for duty on any of
the three Islands. He will be responsible to the
Chief Secretary but will be under the control of
,the Superintendent of Agriculture of the Colony in
which he is for the time being serving.
Medical Attendance: Free medical attend-
ance and medicines are not provided.
Taxation: All Government officers are liable
to taxation imposed by local legislation.

and experience of candidate, and accompanied by
two testimonials, should be addressed to the Chief

him not later than the 36th June, 1957.

NOTICE.

VACANT POST OF DISTRICT INSPECTOR, EDUCkTION
DEPARTMENT, BARBlAOS.

APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment
to a post of District Inspector, Education
Department, Barbados.
Duties: In addition to regular inspection in a
district of 30-40 primary Schools, assistance in
teaching training, vacation courses, etc., the officer
will be required to foster the development of
science teaching appropriate to primary schools


and especially to secondary modern schools
throughout the island, and may be required to
assist in the inspection of other secondary schools.
Qualifications: A Science degree of a uni-
versity within the British Commonwealth, success-
ful expellence in the school teaching of science,
and a broad knowledge of the teaching cf science
at all levels of .chooi education.
Appointment and Salary: The post is pen-
sionable with salary as follows:-
(a) with 1st or 2nd Class Honours or a second
degree obtained by examination-$4,560 x
192-$5,520 ;
(b) without 1st or 2nd Class Honours--3,000
x 120-$3,360 : $3,528 x 141-$4,392.
Salary is subject to deduction of 4 per annum
under the Widows' and Orphans' Pension Scheme
unless the officer is already a contributor to a
Widows' and Orphans' Pension Scheme of
another Colony.
Leave and Leave Passages: Leave is grant-
ed in accordance with local regulations. Leave
passages for officer and, if married, for his wife
are payable every three ,nd half years in accord-
ance with the Civil Establishment (Leave Passages)
Order, 1952.
Passages: Cost of passages of officer and his
family on first appointment is payable up to a
maximum of $1,920.

ECTION 399 of Chapter 55 of the Laws of
Grenada, 1934, is hereby published for the
general information of the public .-
Whoever, knowing or having reason to
believe that any person has committed or has
been convicted of any crime, aids conceals or
harbours the person, with the purpose of en-
abling him to avoid lawful arrest or the ex-
ecution of his sentence, shall, if the crime is
punishable with death or with imprisonment
for ten years or upwards, be liable to imprison-
ment for five years, or shall if the crime is a
felony other than aforsaid, be liable to im-
prisonment for two years, or shall, if the crime
is a misdemeanor, be liable to imprisonment
for six months. "

Animal Husbandry Officer, Department of
Agriculture, British Honduras.


1. Appointment. The appointment, which is
non-pensionable, will le for a period of 3 years,
including leave, in the first instance. It will be
subject to a satisfactory medical examination as
well as to the Colonitld Regulations and to the
General Orders of British Hondurrs in force for
the time being.
2. Salary. The salary scale is $3,120 x 120-
$3,240 x 150-$-1,740. E.i3. $4,920 x 180- $5,460
with entry at a point determined by any special
qualifications and experience. The current rate of
exchange of the BH dollar is $4 equals 1 sterling.
H!llf salary wi!l be paid from the date of embark-
ation. and full salary from the date of' arrival in
British Honduras.
3. Allowances. Travelling and subsistaice
allowances are payable at, local rates for approved
travel on duty. Under the present Regulations
actual transport expenses are paid and subsistence
is at the rate of $2.50 a day for tne first 6 days
and $2 thereafter.
4. Gratuity. On satisfactory completion of
the appointment the officer will be entitled to a
gratuity equal to 10% of the total salary drawn
during the period of engagement.
5. Quarters. A Government quarter will be
provided at Central Farm, the Headquarters of the
Agricultural Department. Rent is charged at the
rate of 71% of salary, subject to a maximum rate
of $480 a year. Heavy furniture is provided at a
rent of 6% a year of its total value.
6. Leave. Vacation leave on full salary will
be granted at the rate of 5 days for each completed
month of resident service, such leave to be taken
