N pursuance of the requirements of section 3 (2) (a) of the Aid to Pioneer Industries Ordinance,
19.52, it is hereby notified for general information that the Governor in Council proposes to make
the undermentioned Order under section 3 of the said Ordinance.
Any person who objects to the making of such Order shall give notice in writing of his objection
and of the grounds on which he relies in support thereof to the Clerk of the Executive Council on or

2. Declaration of Pioneer Industry. The re-manufacture of worn motor vehicle tyres is
hereby declared to be a pioneer industry and re-manufactured motor vehicle tyres are hereby declared
to be pioneer products for the said purposes.

NOTICE.

IT is notified for general information that, arising
out of the recommendations of the London
Conference in February 1956 on British Caribbean
Federation, the Commission on Trade and Tariffs
under the Chairmanship of Sir William Dawson
Croft, K.C.B., arrived in Barbados on the 3rd
November, 1956, and immediately commenced its'
deliberations. Their terms of reference are:-
to examine and report to the Federal
Government on the economic, fiscal and
other technical problems involved in the
ostablisliment of a Customs Union for the
Federal area, bearing in mind the possible
accession of British Guiana and British
Honduras, and to work out a scheme for
a Customs Union, to be implemented, if
necessary, by stago?."
At a Conferencee of Liaison Officers to the Com-
niission appointed by the Unit Governments to
represent their respective territories, held at Hast-
ihis House on November 12th, a draft itinerary
was agreed for the visit of the Commission to the
Various territories of the area. The Commission
propose to visit Grenada as from 2nd to 8th
January, 1957, in order to obtain lirst hand know-
ledge of local conditions, to ilhd preliminary dis-
cussions with interested parUtie.s an! !,o ,stiimula,.e


general interest in the subject of a Customs Union,
including internal free trade.
Immediately on arrival in each territory the
Commission will take such steps as are necessary
to approach interested parties whom they would
wish to see in order to initiate discussions in the
matter. Their desire is that as far as possible
material hearing upon the subject should be avail-
able for the consideration not later than 28th
February 1957. Any interested party of organisa-
tion who may wish to make written representation
to them are requested to send memoranda to the
Secretary to the Commission at Hastings House,
Barbados, by that date.

T HIS Examination will be held in June of this

The entry fee for a subject at Ordinary Level
will be 10/- and for a subject at Advanced Level 1.
Besides the above. a local fee of Four Dollars
($4.00) must be paid into the Treasury and for-

Candidates taking a Science subject requiring a
practical examination must.pay an additional Four
Dollars ($4.00) for each such subject.

The Officer will he responsible for the running
and organisation of the Public Library in Kiings-
town and for the o ganisation and supervision of

connected with Library work as may from time to

sess the Associateship Certificate of the English
Library Association.
The post is pensionable, and any claim to pens-
ion acquired in respect of previous Colonial Service

Registrar (Surgical), General Hospital;
Barbados.

SPPLICATIONS are invited for appointment
to the above post.
2. Qualifications: Applicants should be regis
tered medical practitioners and should possess
either a post-graduate qualification in surgery or
have had not less than four years' experience in a
hospital.
3. Duties: The duties of the office include (1)
usual duties in surgical wards and theatre under
the direction of the Surgeon Specialist, and (2)
surgical out-patients and casualty duties.
4. Appointment and Salary: The post is full
time and pensionable with salary in the scale
$6,240 x 480-$7,200 per annum. Initial salary

will depend on progressional ,qttilifications and
experience. Under the Widows' and Orphans'
Pensions Act the salary of a pensionable officer is
subject to a deduction of 4% per annum unless he
is already a contributor to an approved Widows'
and Orphans' Pensions Scheme of another Colony.
Appointment may be either on a pensionable basis
or on agreement terms for a period of three years
in the first instance. If an officer appointed on
.agreement terms is a contributor to an approved
superannuation scheme the employer's share will
be paid by the Government.
,3 Passages: Cost of passages of an officer
and his family on first appointment is payable up
to a maximum of $1,920. Passages arrangements
in respect of transferred officer will be in accord-
ance with colonial Regulations 87-92.
6. Leave and Leave Passages: Leave is
granted in accordance with local regulations.
Leave passages for officer and, if married, for his
wife are payable every three and a half years in
accordance with the Civil Establishment (Leave
passages) Order, 1952.
7. Quarters: Furnished quarters are provided.
The rental is lkely to be approximately 5% of
basic salary for quarters ana l1o of the capital
value of furniture.

transfer between the Ministeries and Secretariat in
order to gain experience.

St. Lucia.

A PPLICATIONS are invited for the permanent
A- pensiocable post of Superintendent of Prisons,
St. Lucia.
Salary and Allowances: The post carries a
salary of $2,880 x $120-$ 3,6CO per annum which
is also subject to a 20% increase recently approved.
The actual point of entry in the scale will depend
on the qualifications and experience of the candi-
date selected. No allowances, either transport or
otherwise, are payable.
Quarters, Passages, & c Free unfurnished
quarters will be provided. Free first class passages
not exceeding five passages in all, will be provided
on first appointment for the officer, his wife and
children who are under eighteen years of age, un-
married and dependent upon the officer. The
officer's family should accompany him or join him
within twelve months of his appointment to qualify
for passage concessions.
Leave & c : The officer will be eligible for
vacation leave at the rate of 45 days for each com-
pleted period of 12 months resident service,
accumulating up to a maximum of 180 days. Leave
passages will be provided in accordance with local
General Orders.
Qualifications: The candidate should have
experience in Prison Administration and/or train-
ing in some recognized Prison Officer's College.
Duties : General supervision of the Ioyal Gaol
and the Prison for Females, the Prison .Farm and
assumption of such other responsibilities as may
arise from time to time or as are prescribed in local
legislation, e.g. The Act 1838 (1 & 2 Vict. Cap.
67) Chapter 19 of 1916. The officer will also be
subject to. Colonial Regulations, Local General
Orders and the Financial Rules in force in the
Windward Islands from time to time.

Vacant Post Of Harbour Master & Chief
Pilot, St. Lucia.

PPLICATIONS are hereby invited from suit-
able persons for the post of Harbour Master
and Chief Pilot, St. Lucia, which is expected to
become vacant early in 1957.
Salary Etc: The Salary of the post, which is
permanent and pensionable, is at the rate of $3,840
per annum plus a salary increase of 20% which has
been recently approved.
Quarters are not provided..
Passages, Leave Etc: Free first class pas-
sages, not exceeding five passages in all, will be
provided on first appointment for the officer, his
wife and children who are under 18 years of age,
unmaried and dependent upon him. The officer's
family should accompany him or join him within
twelve months of his appointment to qualify for
this concession.
The officer will be eligible for vacation leave at
the rate of 45 days for each completed period of
12 months resident service, accumulating up to a
maximum of 180 days. Leave passages will be
provided in accordance with local General Orders.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess a
Pilot's Certificate for ocean-going boats and must
have experience of shipping, harbour maintenance,
'wharf management and stevedoring, and the oper-
ation of light houses.
Duties: Administration of the Port & Marine
Department, control and maintenance of all light
houses, wharves and jetties in St. Lucia, general
control, of shipping within territorial waters of the
Colony; pilotage of ships, service-on board of Ex-
aminers for local pilots: such other duties as are
prescribed in the Merchant Shipping Act and local
legislation and as may be assigned to the holder of
the post from time to time. The officer is subject
to Colonial Regulations, General Orders and Fin-
ancial Rules which may be in force in the Wind-
ward Islands from time to time.
