NOTICE.

V. C. Centenary Celebrations.

HE year 1956 marks the centenaiy of the
institution of the Victoria Cross. and among
other things there will be a parade in Hyde Park
before lier Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the
26th of June.
A stand will be erected in Hyde Park to enable
members of the public to witness the review and a
certain number of seats have been set aside for
visitors from Overseas territories. Anyone who
wishes to apply for seats should write to Mr.
W. J. B. Osborne, M. 1.E., Ceremonial Secretary
at the Colonial Office, Sanctuary Buildings, Great
Smith Street, London, S. W. I. stating the number
of seats required. The cost will be between 25/-
and 30/- for each seat.

PPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
.. qualified candidates for appointment to the
post of Senior Accoun ant, Grenada, which has
been created under the Hurricane Rehabilitation
Programme. Particulars of the post are as
follows:-
Appointment: The post is non-pensionable,
and the appointme-t will be on a contractual basis
for a period of 2 or 3 yeirs in tie first instance.
1. Duties of Office, and qualifications required
for their performance.
(1) To introduce, operate and supervise
systems of accounting for
A. A programme of Agricultural
Rehabilitation.
B. A Rehousing programme with grant
and loan features.
(2) Control of accounting staff.
(3) Preparation of Financial summaries as and
when required,
(4) Such otner duties as the Officer Admin-
istering Government may from time to
time direct.
Qualifications: Chartered Accountant or
Senior Accountant otherwise qualified.
2. Emoluments of Office:
(a) Pensionable :
(b) Non pensionable: 1,000 to f/1,500
according to qualification and experience.
3. Allowances, quarters, and other circumstances
affecting the value of the Office, including grant of
free or assisted passages to the Officer and his
family on first appointment and on leave.
Free passages for self, wife and two children will
be provided on first appointment and on satisfactory
termination of the appointment. Local transport
will be provided for approved travel on duty or
travelling allowance in lieu if car already owned.
The officer and family may be required to reside
temporarily or for a longer period in a hotel in
which case Government will contribute to his hotel

-expenses according to a formula of general applica-
tion in such matters. In the event of Government
quarters becoming available, the officer will be
required to pay rental not exceeding 10% of his
salary. The officer will be eligible for leave on full
salary at the rate of I week for each completed
perioJ of 3 months service. Such leave to be taken
on the satisfactory completion of the period of
engagement.
4. Nature, number, and amount of securities
required, and mode of giving them.

respecting any of the above matters, with reference
to the sections in which such provision is made,

Applications for Scholarships under the
Caribbean Vocational Training Scheme, 1956.

TIHE Grenada Government has been informed of
Sthe arrangements proposed by the Foreign
Operations Administration of the United States of
America, for the consideration of applications for
vocational training in Puerto Rico in 1956. Foreign
Operations Administration are particularly anxious
to assist those territories which lack vocational
training facilities locally.
A limited number of applications from the
British Caribbean territories will be considered.
It should be noted that facilities are offered
under the Scheme for 1956 in institutions in Puerto
Rico other than the Metropolitan Vocational
School.
Most of the courses have been planned to last
one year hut others will have .shorter or longer
periods depending on thie needs of the trainees
concerned.
Applications will be considered from persons
between the ages of 17 and 35 ye.rs only and may
be addressed to the Secretary, Public Service
Commission, Government Office, St. George's, to
reach him not later than 20th May, 195'.

in Agriculture.

at the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture,
Trinidad, beginning about October, 1956, w!ll be
received at the Government Office not later than
15th May, 1956.
Applicants should submit the following partic-
ulars :
(a) Birth Certificate.
(A) Evidence of attendance at a school in this
'olony for not less than 3 years prece-
ding the application.
(c) Testimonials from 2 persons other than
school teachers under whom education
received.
(d) Testimonials from Head Teachers of those
schools in the Colony which have been
attended, giving all significant details of
school career.
(c) School Leaving Certificate of the Univer-
sity of Cambridge Examinations Syn-
dicate, or of a similar examining body
showing that the applicant has passed
in a subject or subjects or the Science
Group.
(f) A Medical Officer's certificate showing
that the applicant is in a normal state
of health, and generally fit and strong
enough to pursue the full study course
at the Imperial College of Tropical
Agriculture, Trinidad.
(q) Evidence of British Nationality.

be submitted to His Excellency the Governor, who
will make the award to a candidate from the Wind-
ward Islands.
The Scholarship is in respect of tuition fees only,
and no assistance is provided for subsistence and

Land Settlement Department.

VACANCIES exist for 3 Superintendents,
pensionable, with salary on the scale A 4:
84,560 x 240--$5,760 per annum. Appointment
is subject to medical f mess: commencing salary
commensurate with approved experience: rent-free
unfurnished quarters a e provided.
Duties: To be in charge of and responsible for
the administration of a land settlement subject to
the directions of the Head of the Department.
This involves the preparation of land including
draining and irrigation, the allocation of land to
settlers, the inspection and timing of agricultural
operations in accordance with Agricultural policy,
the keeping of proper statistics and accounts and
the supervision of the general welfare of settlers.
Qualifications: A good general education,
strong character and personality. Candidates
should be energetic and should have experience of
drainage and irrigation, soil conservation, land
utilization and of the handling of labour. They
must have administrative experience and manage-
rial ability.
General : Leave is granted in accordance with
the Leave Regulations. On appointment and
completion of service, passages for the officer and
family not exceeding 5 passages in all from and to
the place of recruitment an- Leave Passages in
accordance with Regulations are payable. If
appointment on contract is preferred, a gratuity of
22%0/o of salary will be paid in respect of each
completed period of three months' service.

retary, Public Service Commission, General Post
Office Building, British Guiana, for delivery not
later than 19th May. Applications received after
this date will not be considered. Applicants in
the Public Service should submit their applications
through the normal channels and those who applied
in response to a previous notice should re-apply.
